Top 3 Must-See Comedy Anime for Summer 2017

Introduction

Is there anything better than a good comedy anime? They lift your spirits and make you forget the horrors of the real world for a good twenty minutes or so. There’s also all different kinds of comedy out there in the anime wilderness - romcoms, parodies, and slapstick to name a few - so there’s something for everyone, no matter what your sense of humour is like. The summer 2017 anime season has just started, but with so many comedy anime to choose from this season, where should you start? Which shows are worth your time? In this article, we’ll be introducing the comedy anime you shouldn’t miss out on this summer. Let’s go!

1. Keppeki Danshi Aoyama-kun

Imagine you had an incredible talent for soccer. Now imagine you were a total germaphobe. What would happen if you became the ace player for your school team, and had to do things like heading balls that had been on the ground and sliding around in the mud? Well, you’re about to find out in Keppeki Danshi Aoyama-kun! This anime follows the soccer genius Aoyama-kun and his daily life as he tries to keep himself (and everything around him) clean.

With Aoyama-kun’s cool expression, his smooth deep voice, and his ability to look cool despite exhibiting all his clean-freak behaviours, this anime screams Sakamoto Desu ga? but with a sporty touch. You can expect some soccer scenes, but don’t expect them to go like your typical sports anime - Aoyama-kun will do his best to twist them into perfect comedic moments. The highlight of this anime, however, is bound to be the bokke-tsukkomi relationship between Aoyama-kun and former-ace Kaoru Zaizen. The first episode is already out, so what are you waiting for? Get watching!

2. Aho Girl

“Girl + Sunflower + Banana = Aho Girl!”? Yeah, I’m as lost as you are. But in a good way. What we have here is likely to be a nonsense-style comedy anime. Aho Girl is literally about a girl who is an aho (idiot), and we expect it to do exactly what it says on the tin. It will follow said idiot as she goes about her everyday life, loving bananas, loving her childhood friend, and generally loving life as she causes all kinds of trouble for those around her. Think Himouto! Umaru-chan, if Umaru wasn’t basically a genius when it comes to studying. Yoshiko, the lead of Aho Girl, is lucky if she even gets a single point on her tests…

The only thing that will make you sad when it comes to this anime is that it’s less than 13 minutes an episode. Everything else is bound to be bright and cheery, with plenty of slapstick, a great funny man-straight man relationship, and maybe even some parody moments. You’ll end up feeling sorry for childhood friend Akkun whilst also wishing you had a friend as hilarious as Yoshiko. With the first episode now out, it’s time to give Aho Girl a go!

3. Hajimete no Gal

If you like your comedy mixed with romance and a touch of ecchi, you can’t go wrong with Hajimete no Gal this summer. From the key visual, this looks like Oshiete! Galko-chan, and it looks like it’ll be a similar kind of oppai-oriented sexy. However, don’t expect any education here. This is going to be pure romcom. The story follows regular high-school guy Junichi, who’s on a mission to pop his cherry. Purely by chance, he ends up going after the gyaru or gal from his class, who looks easy. Job done, right? Wrong.

It turns out that despite her appearance (shock horror) the gal Yukana isn’t handing it out to everyone. In fact, it’s the complete opposite. Add onto that the fact that she’s a total tease and hilarity is bound to ensue. Then there’s the other girls, turning this romcom into a harem. If you need your anime to come with plenty of panty shots, boob jiggles, and generally ecchi moments, this is also bound to please. The first episode will be out next week, so make sure not to miss it!
