Top 5 Husbandos of Winter 2020

With the likes of Nekopara, Magia Record, and Bofuri having almost entirely female casts, this has been a waifu-heavy season to say the least. However, some notable husbandos have risen to the surface (some coming from unexpected places) and graced us with their glorious presence in this troubling time. Let’s check out the best husbandos of the Winter 2020 anime season!

5. Crimvael from Ishuzoku Reviewers (Interspecies Reviewers)

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: January 2020 – March 2020

Ishuzoku Reviewers usually focuses more on its sexy monster girl prostitutes than the intrepid group of guys who enjoy their services week to week, but Crimvael (often shortened to Crim) is an exception. He’s a shy, fish-out-of-water angel who stumbles into this ecchi escapade with no sexual experience at all, but slowly matures into a passionate reviewer with discerning tastes and a more adventurous spirit than the others. He’s the only one of the group who Meidri the waitress actually respects, he has unique observations about the surface world, and he’s just so darn relatable that we can’t help but love this awkward little angel.

4. Sakaido/Akihito Narihisago from ID:INVADED

  • Episodes: 13
  • Aired: January 2020 – March 2020

This brilliant detective enters the minds of serial killers to discover their motives and bring closure to unsolved mysteries. His amazing deductive reasoning and ability to pinpoint others’ psychological weaknesses makes him one of the best in the business at dragging criminals to justice, but trauma from years ago causes him to take sick delight in killing them himself. He’s a complicated man who, at his core, may be no better than the people he hunts down, but Sakaido is still fascinating to watch and easy to root for.

3. Hanako from Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun (Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun)

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: January 2020 – March 2020

“Suave”, “endearing”, and “way too charming for his own good” aren’t terms that tend to be used to describe ghosts, but Hanako isn’t just any old apparition—he’s the boss of the Seven Wonders of Kamome Academy. He’s mischievous and a bit of a brat, but deeply cares about his human assistant Nene and has a tragic past that affects him even in death. One of our favorite Hanako moments comes when he pretends to confess to Nene to draw out a love-based apparition but changes his tune when he realizes that she believed him and is heartbroken and embarrassed for daring to get her hopes up. He tenderly holds her until she calms down, showing that he really does love her after all.

2. Golem from Somali to Mori no Kamisama (Somali and the Forest Spirit)

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: January 2020 – March 2020

Golem has spent nearly 1000 years robotically monitoring his assigned forest, but everything changes when he meets an escaped human slave girl named Somali who latches onto him and calls him “Dad”. Over the course of their journey to find her real parents, Golem grows closer to Somali and begins to feel true emotions in his mechanical heart. He patiently teaches her the ways of the world, works hard to pay for medicine when she falls ill, and unleashes hell upon anyone who dares to harm her. Golem dad is best dad!

1. Mirio Togata from Boku no Hero Academia 4th Season (My Hero Academia 4)

  • Episodes: 25
  • Aired: October 2019 – April 2020

As one of the top three students at UA High, Mirio has a lot going for him. He’s got that perfect energetic hero personality, a powerful Quirk that allows him to phase through solid objects, and he was even considered to be All Might’s successor before Deku came along. However, during the fight against Overhaul, that confident façade shows some cracks when he fails to save Eri right away. Behind that winning smile, Mirio is just a kid who desperately wants to save people and is devastated when he can’t win all by himself. For his brilliant character design and emotional complexity, we think that Mirio is the best husbando of the Winter 2020 season.

Final Thoughts

We also liked the powerful and gracious Payne from Bofuri: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, So I’ll Max Out My Defense and the always astute Yukimura from Science Fell in Love, So I Tried to Prove It. But who are your ride-or-die husbandos from this season? Did we miss any of your favorites? Let us know in the comments, and thanks so much for reading!

After the hard-hitting East Coast lifestyle hit me a bit too hard, I started pursuing my passion as a writer in my cozy home state of Ohio. Aside from that, I spend my time cooking, cosplaying, collecting anime merch, and being an improv comedy actor. I also love sneaking alliterations and stupid puns into my writing, so be on the lookout for them! 😉
