Isekai anime have always taught us that being overpowered is the only real way to survive. If your stats aren’t high, then you might perish—which could lead to a real death like in Sword Art Online—and that means, ultimately, game over! In BOFURI, Maple—our main heroine—doesn’t want to feel pain so she decides to not focus on attacks or high-level magic but instead on the ultimate defense.

Ironically, Maple’s strategy allows her to become a powerhouse tank who can unleash defensive moves—and some offensive skills—that border on broken! Maple wouldn’t make our waifu list if she was just a tank, though. Maple also oozes cuteness from her cute smile and in-game attitude that just screams tough but also a bit nervous. Next time we play an MMORPG we hope to have a Maple in our party!

Usually, anime tends to have familiars appear as cute creatures who might be tough—like Pack from Re:Zero—or silly/snarky like Kon from Bleach. In the world of Infinite Dendrogram, however, familiars—known as Embryo—can be human in appearance and deliver to us waifu like Nemesis.

Partnered with Ray Starling, Nemesis at first glance seems to be a regular cute high school girl. However, when Ray needs a weapon in battle, Nemesis changes to a strange sword that can absorb damage and unleash it back as a wicked attack. Nemesis is so tough that she can even fight a bit herself—though not for long—as she once defended an unconscious Ray. Nemesis is adorably cute and tough which makes her perfect for an isekai-themed waifu!

The concept of love has been a truly hard thing to understand in the science world as there isn’t much to really explain about it. Why do we love some people while we dislike others and why do we love a person that seems so different than us? Ayame Himuro found herself trying to explain to her new love—Shinya Yukimura—the ideas of love and the two henceforth tried to use the world of science and math to explain their love in the series Rikei ga Koi ni Ochita no de Shoumei Shitemita.

Ayame ranks high on our waifus of winter 2020 list for several reasons. Number one, Ayame is smart and she shows it constantly by explaining algorithms that make our simple minds spin. Two, Ayame is truly passionate as she shows Shinya how much she cares about him and is willing to go through hoops explaining her love towards him. Third and lastly, Ayame is truly sexy with all the right curves in all the right places. If you want brains and looks in one ultimate package then we point you towards Ayame Himuro who has stolen our hearts here at Honey’s Anime!

Fans of the Fate/ franchise no doubt have a hard time picking one perfect waifu. Many fans will cling to the original girls like Saber, Rin Tohsaka, and/or Sakura Matou but the recent Fate series—Fate/Grand Order: Zettai Majuu Sensen Babylonia—has a waifu that we think might trump some of the best.

Known as Ereshkigal, Summoned as a Lancer, Ereshkigal is tough, mighty, a bit scary, and all too attractive. In Fate/Grand Order: Zettai Majuu Sensen Babylonia Ereshkigal has proven to be a force of her own when her original underworld powers—based loosely on her lore as a servant—pushed poor Mash to her limits. When Ereshkigal isn’t ready to prove her wisdom and royalty you can clearly see a tsundere side of her appear, especially when it has to do with Ritsuka Fujimaru.

As far as catgirls go, the anime world is filled with them. However, one series—originally based on a visual novel—released as an anime adaptation and with it came one of the best cat girls ever! Chocola from Nekopara is a cute, happy, and extremely loyal cat girl who reigns as one of the most adorable waifu of winter 2020 hands down!

While Chocola might be a bit childish—her technical age in human terms is 9 months old—Chocola is still truly a blessing to those who love all things catgirl and we can’t agree more. If you’re feeling down and need someone to make your heart soar with joy—and loyalty—then you’ll love Chocola and wish she was your pet cat girl as she will brighten even the darkest of days!
