6 Anime Like Heion Sedai no Idaten-tachi (The Idaten Deities Know Only Peace) [Recommendations]

Heion Sedai no Idaten-tachi (The Idaten Deities Know Only Peace) is an action-packed seinen series with a killer opening theme, OP godly protagonists with deceptively young looks, bright psychedelic colors, and a lot of zany scene sequences. We love its energy, frantic pace, dark humor, and epic fights. With the series almost over, we picked six more anime titles that will fulfill your need for more wacky battle seinen, featuring gods, or god-like main characters. Without further ado, let’s take a look into six anime series that give us epic fights akin to Dragon Ball awesomeness.

1. Mob Psycho 100

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: July 2016 - September 2016

Meet Mob, the student with a bowl cut, calm aura, and immense superpowers. Mob is scared of using his powers to their full extent and chooses to suppress them instead. However, life holds different plans for him. Under the guidance of quack sensei psychic Reigen, Mob exorcises evil spirits. Along the way, he finds out that his unrestrained power is much stronger than anyone would imagine. Will Mob believe in himself?

Mob Psycho 100 is in many ways similar to The Idaten Deities Know Only Peace. The whole vibe is fun, modern, bright, and upbeat, with gruesome or bizarre humor sprinkled over. Both are seinen anime series that feature grandiose fights, overpowered main characters, and evil masterminds. Each character, villains, and secondary cast have their own quirks, signature looks, and interesting backstories. Mob Psycho 100 ultimately offers a more positive outlook in life, while Itaden has a darker, cynical tone, featuring deities that cannot fully fathom humans’ realities. Mob Psycho 100 is a solid watch for anyone who enjoyed Idaten and wished it was a bit less dark and with more gags.

2. Devilman: Crybaby

  • Episodes: 10
  • Aired: January 2018

Devilman: Crybaby tells the story of two friends’ cursed fate. Devils need a host’s body to live in and feed off. Young genius scientist Ryou Asuka lures his childhood friend Akira Fudou, a good-natured guy, into his quest for knowledge about the devils’ true nature, and eventual obliteration. Akira turns into Devilman, a creature who is both devil and human, with the power to destroy other devils, and the kind heart of a crybaby.

Demons, gods, OP cast, here we go again! Enter Go Nagai’s lusty, violent universe, seen through the eyes of genius avant-garde anime director Masaaki Yuasa. Devilman: Crybaby is a must for fans of Idaten’s gory, disturbing humor. They’re both R rating for a reason. Ryou Asuka is insanely smart, without a sense of remorse, reminding us of Ysley from Idaten. To be fair, all Idaten deities are not that empathetic, they’d rather maintain an equilibrium, without caring about humans or demons. Ryou’s selfish drive and Akira’s bleeding heart clash in amazing fights, quirky animation choices, and cool electronic music, as we see in Idaten, too.

3. Dorohedoro

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: January 2020 - March 2020

Caiman wakes up in a huge anthropomorphic lizard body, without a trace of memory from his part. Caiman is not his real name, either. Living in Hole, a dystopian slum where those without magic powers end up, this fate doesn’t seem worse than death or mutilation. Sorcerers, those with magic powers, experiment on normal people, leaving them crippled or on the verge of death. Was Caiman experimented on? And what’s up with the talking human head inside his mouth?

Dorohedoro is the definition of gritty, fun, and bizarre seinen anime. Caiman’s mysterious past and Nikaidou’s genki demeanor hiding secrets of her own, the sorcerer “villains” (who’s evil in the end?), coloring, and lines reminiscent of old-school alternative comics, are all elements that will attract Idaten fans.

4. One Punch Man

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: October 2015 - December 2015

Saitama lives a regular life as a salaryman until he becomes obsessed with getting stronger. He becomes a hero, the strongest the world has seen, and can now defeat his enemies with just one punch. There’s no excitement left in his life because there is not a single worthy opponent to fight. So, Saitama spends his days going grocery shopping, playing video games, or doing laundry, with the occasional monster fight, to keep Tokyo safe.

One of the best shounen parodies to come out in the last years, One Punch Man, like Idaten, features enemies that don’t stand a chance against extremely OP protagonists. Saitama is god-like, but treats his immeasurable abilities with aloofness, going on about his business of reading manga and eating watermelon instead. Similarly, the Idaten deities don’t treat their powers are something special, a tool to improve humanity’s fate, but rather act as true neutrals, maintaining the balance between opposing forces.

5. The God of High School

  • Episodes: 13
  • Aired: July 2020 - September 2020

The God of High School is a live tournament, gathering the strongest teenage fighters from all over Korea. Jin Mo-ri is an upbeat and super skilled Taekwondo fighter, who is invited to participate in the tournament. There he meets Han Dae-wi, who specializes in Karate, and Yu Mi-ra, a powerful swordswoman. However, the tournament is not what it seems, as there is a political game being played behind the scenes.

The God of High School is the perfect action anime for Idaten fans who love over-the-top fights. We’ve got young OP fighters, insane attacks, and… gods. Who’s going to be the new god of High School? There’s a mystery plot, too, with Idaten deities not knowing who the demon lord really is, slowly uncovering his true nature, and the young fighters Jin Mo-ri and Han Dae-wi falling deeper into the shady nets of politician Park Mu-jin.

6. Shuumatsu no Walküre (Record of Ragnarok)

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: June 2021

Record of Ragnarok tells the story of a dark time for humanity. All gods, from different ancient traditions, such as the Olympian Gods, Hinduism deities, and Norse mythology gods, decide that it is time to eradicate humans, due to their lack of respect for the planet. However, Brunhilde, one of the Valkyries of Norse mythology, proposes that they re-enact the Ragnarok, the apocalyptic fight between gods and humans, instead of simply killing off all humanity. Now humans have to make a stance against gods to secure their survival, while gods fight amongst themselves to further their agendas.

Like Idaten, Record of Ragnarok has a large cast of powerful deities. In Ragnarok, gods fight each other to decide whether humanity survives, in battles of epic proportions. We get to see Zeus against Adam, Shiva against demigods like Heracles, and several other action-packed clashes between OP characters. This is again a seinen series, so Idaten stans will enjoy the often darker humor and adult themes.
