They continued the story which left so many questions before, plus the animation was perfected and made to be more visually awesome. Despite the length of the whole anime, it’s still sad that it had to end. It was a long exciting journey to watch Gon and his companions go through so many memorable battles. We will forever cherish those moments.

Five years have passed and Hunter X Hunter (2011) is still considered one of the best shounen anime out there because it offered a compelling story along with the insane fight scenes. If you are looking for a fresh new list of similar anime like Hunter X Hunter, then you have come to the right place. Similar Anime to Hunter X Hunter

1. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

  • Episodes: 64
  • Aired: Apr 5, 2009 - Jul 4, 2010

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is another action-packed anime similar to Hunter X Hunter. It tells the tale of two brothers, Edward and Alphonse Elric, who lost their mother to an incurable disease. They turn to “alchemy” in order to revive her using the forbidden act of human transmutation. Their deed quickly backfires and they both pay a horrible price for their wrongdoing. Edward loses his leg and sacrifices his right arm to affix Alphonse's soul to a suit of armor. The traumatic event motivates Edward to fix his body using mechanical limbs called “automail” to try and become a state alchemist. His brother joins the journey as they try to find a way to revert their bodies back to their original form.

Like Hunter X Hunter, FMA: Brotherhood focuses on not so powerful characters that progress and develop as the story goes further. Both series have magical attributes that are presented in two very different ways. Another unique similarity that these shows share is, they are both remakes of an already good anime and despite the length of the series, there are zero fillers in both of them. If you want an entertaining shounen anime that is intelligently created and filled with never ending kickass fights, FMA: Brotherhood is one epic anime you don’t want to miss.

2. Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic

  • Episodes: 25
  • Aired: Oct 7, 2012 - Mar 31, 2013

If you want another anime that doesn’t take a generic approach like Hunter X Hunter, Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic is another series that will keep you entertained. The story centers on Aladdin, a young magician who carries a mystical flute with supernatural powers. He starts a journey traveling all corners of the world accompanied by Ali Baba, a teenage merchant who dreams of conquering dungeons. This is not a walk in the park adventure as these labyrinths are ruled by powerful entities called Djinns. Our heroes try to defeat these supernatural beings on their quest for fame and fortune.

Like Hunter X Hunter, this anime is also mixed with a pinch of comedy and heavy action. The main characters, Gon and Aladdin, are energetic and make a lot of friends that play important roles as the story progresses. Also, the maturity of both these characters, given their young age, is also very noticeable. Both anime also have magical powers if you are looking forward to those. What sets these two apart from other shounen anime is their deep and dark elements. It may seem pretty normal and funny at the start but they are both filled with dark secrets. If you are looking for a series packed with adventure that contains a surprisingly dark theme, Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic will definitely keep you stuck to your seat.

3. One Punch Man

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: Oct 5, 2015 - Dec 21, 2015

Jumping from Hunters to Heroes, One Punch Man is the story of Saitama, a superhero who has trained relentlessly and lost all of his hair in the process. He is the most powerful hero alive thus beating his enemies with…Yes. As the title suggests, one punch. He has become so powerful that he became quite bored from doing heroic deeds. He later meets Genos, a young cyborg who asks to be his disciple. They both join the Hero Association to gain popularity and help society by defeating all kinds of life threatening monsters.

Both of these anime look kickass awesome. The fight scenes are very detailed and the characters will automatically get stuck in your head from the moment you first see them. Also, these anime have organizations that similarly have ranks and character assessments. Threat to humanity is also a similar theme they both share and the villains are not your typical push-overs as they are wickedly strong. Let me stress the crazy fights packed in both series, given that they were made by the same studio. If you haven’t already watched One Punch Man, I suggest you drop everything you are doing right now and experience the greatness of Saitama.

4. JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken: Stardust Crusaders

Jojo no Kimyou no Bouken: Stardust Crusaders is another anime that is very fast paced like Hunter X Hunter. The story starts quickly when Joutarou Kuujou locked himself inside a Japanese jail cell as he is convinced that he is possessed by a powerful evil spirit. Upon seeing his grandson’s evil spirit in physical form, Joseph explains that the power he has is what they call a “Stand”. He quickly learns that there is a much greater threat lurking around the world and the story progresses only to unravel a much darker secret that surrounds the Joestar family.

Hunter X Hunter and Jojo’s Stardust Crusaders are classic shounen anime that both feature the journey of the characters. The main protagonist is on a search to find a certain person and is accompanied by a group of very unique friends. Most of the fight scenes in both of these titles are won by strategy rather than brute strength which make them really interesting to 1watch. If you want more NEN-like action, Jojo’s Stardust Crusader also has a lot of supernatural abilities involved. The story itself is very engaging and unpredictable; it will surely get you hooked as soon as you watch the first episode.

5. Katekyo Hitman Reborn! [Reborn!]

Similar to Hunter X Hunter, the main characters will start weak and grow stronger by training themselves. They both have daddy issues and will do everything in their power for the sake of their friends. There are also a lot of characters that play major roles all throughout the series and some light comedy every now and then. Fighting powerful foes will also be a familiar scene as the characters develop. Akame ga Kill! is an action packed anime much like Hunter X Hunter. The story starts with Tatsumi, a well trained fighter who has left his village, which is drowning in poverty created by the authorities. He is shocked to face the truth when he realizes that the Imperial City is taken over by corruption, evil and greed from supernatural entities. Faced with a lot of challenges, the Night Raid’s ideals have convinced Tatsumi to join the group and together they must eliminate the Empire who has left their nation in ruins.

If you are looking for great fight scenes like in Hunter X Hunter, Akame ga kill! is packed with plenty of super power fights that is visually entertaining to watch. Despite the light comedy in these titles, both of these anime also have mature and dark themes added to them. The concept of killing for a good reason is also stressed as the story progresses. They both have a lot of characters who try everything to reach a certain goal and they both share the adventure genre. If you are looking for a more mature story, Akame ga kill! should give you things to think about after every episode.

Original Article Below

Sometimes it can be difficult finding an anime like the one you just finished, luckily with Hunter x Hunter, there’s plenty of anime out there than can fill the void left by the ending of the series.

Whether the anime are similar because of fighting or the roles certain characters play and even some of their presence, here’s a list of 6 different anime that can help you through those days left now open.

Similar Anime to Hunter x Hunter

1. Yu Yu Hakusho

  • Episodes: 112
  • Aired: Oct, 1992 to Jan, 1995

When you think of Hunter x Hunter you think of fighting, and awesome powers that come with it in these parallel worlds. YuYu Hakusho takes that idea and molds it into something initially believable all the way to “no way that just happened,” and beyond.

Yusuke is a teenager that just happened to befall an ill-timed death, well before his years. What he soon discovers though is that he is given a second chance at life; but only if he agrees to become a spirit detective! Now he must get stronger to face the ever increasing amount of enemies humankind don’t know they face!

The fights in this series are some of my favorites from an older anime. While the characters all have their quirks and ticks, it’s really a joyous ride from start to finish.

2. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure

  • Episodes: 26
  • Aired: Oct, 2012 to Apr, 2013

It’s almost impossible to explain this anime without giving something away, but I’ll try. JoJo is just a nickname each of the main protagonists has, and each also has their own adventure in the part they play. The fighting is very well sequenced (with plenty of) so you’ll never be bored.

Joestars is an English family and spans back many generations, each with their own crazy story to tell. Depending on which part you’re on also decides which character set you get to see, which makes this anime very fun to see. With the stories constantly changing and all the different characters you get to see, JJBA is an anime you don’t want to miss out on!

3. Kiseijuu: Sei no Kakuritsu (Parasyte: The Maxim)

  • Episodes: 24
  • Aired: Oct, 2014 to Mar, 2015

Shinichi Izumi is a completely normal teenage boy, and continues to be so after a parasitic alien invasion occurs and begins taking over the bodies of humans (including Shinichi’s right arm). What he soon discovers is that these aliens are everywhere, killing humans and taking over others and his own right hand is one of them!

This is an incredible anime to watch as any fan will tell you. The artwork is phenomenal and the fights are getting better and better as the series rolls on. If you’re looking for another fighting type anime that will satiate your lust for battle, Parasyte is one you don’t want to forego seeing!

4. Seven Deadly Sins (Japansese: Nanatsu no Taizai)

  • Episodes: 24
  • Aired: Oct, 2014 to Mar, 2015

A princess is all that’s left of her former kingdom, the new one being built with blood by the Holy Knights’ betrayal to the throne. Her only hope is to find seven particular knights that are said to have rebelled years ago, the Seven Deadly Sins. After encountering Meliodas in his traveling tavern and discovering he was the leader of these Sins, they two travel in search for the rest to take back her throne!

This is a deliciously fun anime to follow along with. While it does have those amazing fights just like Hunter x Hunter, it’s more focused on the fun of it. Meliodas shows off just how badass he really is pretty early on, but still remaining almost whimsical about things. That’s my favorite thing about this show, its ability to get serious and hilarious all at once.

5. Trinity Blood

  • Episodes: 24
  • Aired: Apr, 2005 to Oct, 2005

Humanity has overpopulated the Earth and now set their eyes upon Mars in hopes of colonizing. What the initial search party found however was much more troubling. They found the virus Bacillus, and the nanomachines called Crusnik; the virus giving that of eternal life in the form of a vampire and the nanomachines giving much more. The scientists inflicted the virus upon themselves and created 4 test tube babies to implant the nanomachines in.

This is an incredible anime to watch, even without it being linked to Hunter x Hunter with one of my favorite anime endings of all time. Trinity Blood may be a vampire anime, but unlike all the others it takes it in a completely different direction. The story follows Abel, one of the initial Crusnik born babies 900 years after his initial growth and the power to prove it.

6. Great Teacher Onizuka (GTO)

  • Episodes: 43
  • Aired: Jun, 1999 to Sep, 2000

Eikichi Onizuka is a 22 year old ex-gang member and virgin doing everything he can to lose it and find his direction. One day he gets a date (somehow), and after getting all the way to a hotel she leaves him for a teacher. After seeing how this teacher had such a command over this woman, he decides that he too will teach; but on his own terms.

This is a great anime to watch if you’re looking for something lighthearted and not so serious while still holding onto life lessons. It’s practically all he teaches! The comedy in junction with the silliness of the plot itself really just pushes this anime to a must see!

That does it for our list of anime like Hunter x Hunter! If you have any other suggestions or comments – leave them in the comments section down below!
