1. Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken (That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime)

  • Episodes: 24
  • Aired: October 2018 – March 2019

Most dream of being reincarnated in a better situation than their previous life. Some people want to have buff bodies that attract everyone, others want superpowers to save the day. What if you didn’t get any of that and instead got one of the weakest bodies known to the world of monsters? That’s the main point of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime and while the set up sounds silly, the end product is truly a phenomenal series.

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime goes against the waves of typical isekai stories by having our hero be reborn in a slime body. Luckily, the gods who reincarnate our hero—Satoru Mikami—give his slime form a means of absorbing other monsters and become a truly powerhouse of a creature. That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime is an extremely enjoyable isekai boasting amazing animation, fun characters and OP character you love to watch grow even more as a slime. Season 2 is currently airing on Crunchyroll so you can binge the entire first season and start catching up to the current!

2. Otome Game no Hametsu Flag shika Nai Akuyaku Reijou ni Tensei shiteshimatta…(My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!)

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: April 2020 – June 2020

In most isekai, the hero tends to be needed to save the world. They get reincarnated and sent to a new world and are given enhanced abilities making them the true definition of a hero. What if, though…what if you were resurrected in a new world not as the hero but the villain and were destined not to destroy the world but die…

Enter the painful—but comedic—reality of Katarina Claes who was once a fan of a video game series and now has been sent inside said game but as the villain. Katarina knows how the game works and now is aiming to change her ill fate in the comedic isekai anime titled My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! We absolutely love this silly isekai and we know you fans of Jobless Reincarnated will no doubt fall in love with Katarina and her plights all while laughing as she tries to show how a gamer can survive any ill destined reality!

3. Kenja no Mago (Wise Man’s Grandchild)

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: April 2019 – June 2019

Most isekai stories forget that characters once lived in another world far removed from their new fantasy setting. Rudy from Jobless Reincarnated quickly realizes he is in a new world and begins to adapt to his situation and the same can be said of Shin Walford in Wise Man’s Grandchild. Shin’s path to master mage is why we truly love isekai and know not every anime from the genre is made from the same mold.

Wise Man’s Grandchild wasn’t highly reviewed, but we loved how Studio Silver Link took this light novel series and made it a truly fun and interesting anime. If you somehow skipped over Wise Man’s Grandchild then now is the time to dive in for yourself and check it out!

4. Log Horizon

  • Episodes: 25
  • Aired: October 2013 – March 2014

True gamers—especially MMORPG fans—know the excitement of waiting for a new expansion to drop. Not only will this new piece of DLC give you plenty of new missions and new worlds to explore but make the game just a bit longer. This is the excitement felt by 30,000 in the world of Log Horizon. Unfortunately for them, though, this excitement will be short-lived as they get to experience the scary reality of what it feels like to be in an a isekai.

Log Horizon—which has finally begun airing its second season—was one of the earlier isekai that surprised many who were still growing accustomed to the genre. Rather than be about reincarnation/resurrected, Log Horizon is more akin to .hack//sign or Sword Art Online. Watching MMORPG players try to learn a game from within is not only exciting but very different than most isekai we’re used to. Log Horizon is one of the better isekai out there and if you’re digging the style of Jobless Reincarnated but want a more game-themed story, then you need to give Log Horizon a shot.

5. Honzuki no Gekokujou: Shisho ni Naru Tame ni wa Shudan wo Erandeiraremasen (Ascendance of a Bookworm)

  • Episodes: 14
  • Aired: October 2019 – December 2019

Books are probably in our top three obsessions here at Honey’s Anime. Many of us here are die-hard bookworms and you can bet that when a series has the word bookworm in it that is a series that intrigues us! Ascendance of a Bookworm is the series we are talking about and was one of the better series from the fall 2019 anime series!

Ascendance of a Bookworm throws a bookworm Urano Motosu into a hellish situation, a world without enough books! Watching Urano—now reborn as Myne—bring her love of books into a new world is so much fun and it gives Ascendance of a Bookworm a truly refreshing feel. Ascendance of a Bookworm isn’t action-oriented and is more slice of life than Jobless Reincarnation but both series are truly changing the usual isekai tropes and we appreciate that greatly!

6. Overlord

  • Episodes: 13
  • Aired: July 2015 – September 2015

Overlord is a perfect example of an isekai that hits all the right notes. Beautiful animation/art, great characters, and an engaging story are just a few elements that make Overlord so incredible. Need more info on Overlord? Glad you asked, we were planning on talking about it regardless!

Overlord follows a young man whisked away into a game that was just about to shut down. Now inhabiting the skeletal body of Momonga, our gamer must learn more about his favorite game and why he’s been trapped within this realm. Overlord is currently three seasons long so those who need a longer anime to binge will no doubt love Overlord! Plus, this is easily one of our favorite isekai series and we doubt many will disagree with that statement.

Final Thoughts

If we had some honorable mentions in our list of 6 Anime Like Jobless Reincarnation, they would be So I’m a Spider, So What?—which is currently airing—and Saga of Tanya the Evil. While the latter is more focused on war-like themes—and a truly angry little mage girl—the former is a fun isekai that is quite similar to Jobless Reincarnation.

Our list barely scratched the surface of great isekai out there and now we wish to hear from you readers out there. What isekai could have—or should have—made our list?
