People often wonder about the outcome of a situation, whether the result is evident or by miraculous chance. Circumstances are often met with a welcomed outcome or one that isn’t favorable. By not agreeing with what has come to pass, many often think of time travel, going back to a specific period or event to change the result. Time travel occurs for Derrida, as he falls into a cold sleep machine and emerges after ten years to a world in the midst of conflict and turmoil. As he recalls unfinished business to “take care of Mage,” Derrida ventures on to complete Nathan’s last request, in addition to navigating a world devastated by war.

Steins;Gate and RErideD are both very similar as they involve advanced technology and adventure. Rintarou Okabe and Derrida Yvain both travel back in time to save someone important to them. Steins;Gate and RErideD also highlight the significance of an event having lasting effects in the future. These action and sci-fi anime are blood-pumping and exciting to watch.

2. Re: Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu (Re:ZERO –Starting Life in Another World-)

Subaru Natsuki was visiting his local store and then transported to a strange, new world of magic, monsters, and kingdoms. Once there, he is rescued by a white-haired girl named Satella. Though he joins her on what starts as a fun mission, it ends with them both being slashed to death. To his great surprise, Subaru finds himself back at the same moment when he got to the new world. How is this possible?

Subaru Natsuki and Derrida Yvain travel to a time and place unfamiliar to them. Each story contains a lot of mystery and drama that unfolds at a great pace and progression. The casts of characters are interesting and contribute significantly to the main character’s journey. Everyone involved is put in a position to fend for his or her lives. Re:Zero and RErideD offer a certain realism to viewers suggesting that the past never remains in history and the future is never concrete.

3. Boku Dake ga Inai Machi (Erased)

  • Aired: January 2016 – March 2016

Erased follows the story of 29-year-old Satoru Fujinuma who is an aspiring manga artist but feels he doesn’t have the potential to make it in the business. Leading a pretty ordinary life and putting his manga dream on hold, Satoru works as a pizza delivery guy. Contrasting this, Satoru possesses a supernatural ability that he doesn’t share with many people. The skill ‘Revival’ allows him to move into the past to correct tragedies and wrongdoing. As Satoru is accused of murder and arson, he uses revival to go back 18 years to fix a string of murders.

Erased is an intriguing mystery and psychological anime and RErideD is an exciting sci-fi drama. Both series will keep you on edge from start to finish. Both main characters are caught in a time loop, traveling to various events in time to produce a lasting, positive effect. However, the theme of Erased is more substantial and profound while RErideD shares an adventurous, light-hearted story.

4. Island

The people who live on Urashima, an island far from the mainland, lead carefree lives. Despite that, the island's three great families withstood a series of misfortunes over the last five years. Trapped by a complicated past and long-established tradition, the people of Urashima cut off all contact with the mainland. Long since abandoned, the people of the island are ready to give up hope. But then, a lone man named Setsuna who calls himself a "time traveler" washes ashore. Setsuna lost all of his memories except for a specific mission that he must fulfill. And so, he begins his solitary struggle to change the island's karma. It is up to Setsuna and the three girls he met of these three families to save the island.

Island and RErideD both have the concept of time travel, but the environments that Setsuna and Derrida are placed in are entirely different. The style of animation also reflects each series, using crisp, vivid colors and eye-catching action sequences. While Island encompasses more of a mystery, RErideD captures fans that enjoy tons of action.

5. Arve Rezzle: Kikaijikake no Yousei-tachi

  • Aired: March 2, 2013

The technology of quantum computing has significantly advanced in 2022, and many people have transferred their mind into cyberspace. Remu's sister Shiki enrolled in high school after skipping a few grades in the academic city Okinotori-island Mega Float City (OMFC) at the age of 14. One day, Shiki admitted to her brother that she was interacting with him directly from cyberspace and that her physical body had been put in a tank filled with a culture medium also known as "body pool". Shiki connected to this network by nanomachines that are implanted inside her brain.

Later, "Early Rupture" occurs, leaving the network server to overload. Each user’s mind disappears in cyberspace, becoming soulless living vessels polluting the pool of bodies. To bring Shiki's mind back, Remu visits her apartment. He meets Shiki as she escapes from the hospital, except the girl tells him that she is not Shiki and has somehow taken over her body. When Remu tries to solve this matter, a violent attack breaks out in the apartment.

Arve Rezzle and RErideD share a very futuristic, end-of-the-world plot involving the characters being faced with a life or death choice. The main characters are targeted by an unidentified organization. Next Life goes beyond physical existence as virtual space occupies the area surrounding them which has changed their world drastically within a short amount of time. The animation in both is impressive as the style closely matches the setting and ambiance of their worlds.

6. Juushinki Pandora (Last Hope)

  • Aired: March 2018 – September 2018

Juushinki Pandora takes place in a near-future world in which the boundary between humans and Artificial Intelligence is unclear. A biological evolutionary accident turns into genesis and innovation, as citizens race for supremacy. The impact of advancement goes beyond biology, spreading to various kinds of topics and technologies. The era of massive evolution is near. The characters in Juushinki Pandora carry the weight of these significant changes, all the while struggling with finding balance.

Juushinki Pandora and RErideD portray a young group of people overcoming the obstacle of individualism and self-preservation in a world that is rapidly growing and developing. The characters of each series have their own compelling emotional struggles and numerous arcs of growth that flow well into the storyline. Also, the colors and animation used in both series are pretty awesome.
