So what if we're not trick-or-treating this year due to coronavirus, right? That doesn't mean we can't enjoy the Fall season and the Halloween spirit! Listed here are anime that feature monsters that are more kawaii than creepy. Yell "eeek!" with delight at these adorable descendants of fairytale monsters. We hope you enjoy these anime with adorable monsters!
Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon (Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid)
Miss Kobayashi is a single salary-woman who works long hours and comes home to booze it up at the end of her day and crash. One day, a woman who shows herself really to be a dragon shows up on her doorstep and offers to be a live-in maid. The dragon, Tooru, has a full cosplay/maid-café uniform and starts performing duties to her idea of what housekeeping entails. It turns out that Tooru has little idea of what this should be, though she knows Kobayashi is a big fan of maids. After meeting Tooru, several other dragons in a human form arrive. This story is a delightful, slice of life comedy that tells the story of dragons moving from a different world to live in this universe.
After Tooru arrives, some other dragons get curious. Dragons Kanna and Fafnir decide to follow Tooru to this world and the ex-goddess, Quetzalcoatl. While kind at heart, the dragons have almost no common sense or knowledge of how to survive. Fortunately, the dragons all find a human to stay with while they are in this world. Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid centers around the Kobayashi household, consisting of Miss Kobayashi, Tooru, and the elementary-aged Kanna. With a new season coming in 2021, this is the perfect time to start watching Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid!
Miira no Kaikata (How to Keep a Mummy)
Sora Kashiwagi receives a mysterious sealed casket from his father, who is traveling in Egypt. The casket, of its own accord, slowly creaks open after delivery, and out creeps a mummy… an adorable, inches-tall mummy! After the initial shock, the lovable mummy is adopted by Sora, and they become inseparable. Mii-kun, as the mummy is called, is so soft and tiny and weak that he is helpless on his own, but he adores and clings to Sora. Shortly after Sora and Mii-kun meet, several friends of his from school have encounters in their lives with small monster-type creatures with whom they become friends. Like a play-date, this group of classmates get together and hang out while their monster friends chase each other and learn how to play.
How to Keep a mummy is almost too cute for words! These monster creatures go to their own version of daycare while their humans are in school. In this story, the high schoolers must learn what their monster companion eats, their sensitivities, and what they enjoy. Some of the experiences in this slice of life anime include making sushi, someone you love getting sick, learning to make friends, and more. How to Keep a Mummy is the sweet story of a mummy, oni child, dragon, and other monsters who become friends with one another while the people who take care of them learn more about them. We hope you enjoy How to Keep a Mummy!
Demi-chan wa Kataritai (Interviews with Monster Girls)
In Interviews with Monster Girls, a vampire, a succubus, an ice woman, and a Dullahan are all rare demi-humans who happen to attend or teach at the same high school. These "demis," as the world has come to call them, are people who have different strengths and weaknesses based on a genetic variance. For example, this story's vampire and ice woman have sensitivities to hot, sunny days but take refuge in the cold dark science lab. Teaching at this high school is Tetsuo Takahashi, who had a keen interest and academic wish to study demis in college. Unfortunately, the acceptance of demi-humans into society is newer, so it was not an accepted topic.
Mr. Takahashi's finds himself helping the demis learn more about themselves when they agree to talk to him with the purpose of academic and a wider-known understanding of demi-humans. As he learns more about the, sometimes severe, accommodations demis make in their lives to fit in, he thinks about the unique physical needs of demi humans and works to see where the school can help them succeed. While the demi students have adventures making friends and having fun, their demi teacher is also learning how to be a succubus and live in polite society. Season 1 was a cute experience, and we're looking forward to season 2!
