New to the Fall 2021 lineup, we have Shin no Nakama ja Nai to Yuusha no Party wo Oidasareta node, Henkyou de Slow Life suru Koto ni Shimashita (Banished from the Hero’s Party, I Decided to Live a Quiet Life in the Countryside)! This long-titled, premise-is-the-plot anime has been fun so far because this story is the right kind of crazy. After being booted from the party that contains the nation’s hero, a different but fulfilling life is ahead!
Gideon Leaves the Party
The story starts when Gideon is asked to leave the party. The glasses character of the party coldly tells Gideon that he is a liability and that his common-level skills are not going to be enough to keep up. Gideon is an unusual pick for the party because while most people have a “blessing” skill in which they can achieve mastery, Gideon seems to possess many skills, but all of them are at the common level.
Gideon is also the brother of the party’s hero. He is told that in addition to being unable to keep up, he is actually a liability for his cherished sibling. Though it is a massive hit to his ego and sense of self, Gideon agrees to leave the group so that the other members have a greater chance to accomplish their quest.
Overpowered Main Character Takes a New Name and Craft
Though this anime begins with an ending, Gideon doesn’t roll over and die after being booted from his longtime party. Gideon finds himself in a quiet town, where he decides to use his skills at foraging to make some money by gathering herbs. Gideon decides to take on a new name, Red, to toss away his old life and reputation. Gideon, *ahem* Red excels in his herb gathering and decides to make it his dream to open an apothecary where he can sell concoctions of what he has gathered to anyone who needs medicine or something to make them healthier.
OP MCs Live their Slice of Life Dream
Shortly after opening for business, Red is joined by someone his party fought alongside in the past. Rit is an adventurer famous for her skills and known for fighting solo. Though she is a monster on the battlefield, she is a beautiful girl who is head over heels for Red but could never get close to him back when he was surrounded by his doting sister and other cool party members. When Rit happens upon Red, separated from his party, she starts living with him and working in his shop, and very quickly, the two of them are living a picturesque countryside life as a couple.
Rit and Red work on their products at the apothecary. They farm the things they will need, and the fight with the demon army is well out of view. A slow-burn romance is brewing between these two as well. They seem to know that they want this life to go on forever. Rit is regularly turning down requests to return to her old life, while Red is trying not to demonstrate his skills to the local adventurers, who seem to know there is something unusual going on. The combination of their ridiculous mishaps have made for fun adventures so far!
The Hero’s Party Flails Without Their Banished Member
While Red and Rit live their countryside-couple dreams, the party is still together, but they are miserable and falling apart. It turns out that the glasses character, Ares, did not get the consent of anyone in the party before sending Red/Gideon away. Members have left, Ares has received many injuries for his poor choices, and the group is not making headway towards their goal. When one member opts to go and get Gideon back, Gideon’s sister, the hero, supports this. What will Red say when his old party member comes to tell him that he is both wanted and needed back?
Lots to Look Forward To!
So far, Banished from the Hero’s Party has been a thoroughly enjoyable ride with compelling characters getting more satisfaction out of the life they built than their trade of adventuring. Even though Red and Rit are getting everything they want out of this new life, what will happen to their countryside village if the hero doesn’t save the day? More than that, Red’s sister is both chillingly powerful and very much attached to her brother. How will she take to learning about Rit and Red’s apothecary? This sweet and silly anime isn’t done yet, and we are looking forward to the rest of it!
Final Thoughts
Banished from the Hero’s Party, I Decided to Live a Quiet Life in the Countryside might be the most on-point title naming we have seen yet. The title does not tell you, though, that the romance between Rit and Red is palpable and that the juxtaposition between how deadly these characters can be with what a cute life they want to lead is continuously enjoyable. We hope you like it half as much as we do! What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments!
