Made in Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul Introduction and Story
Made in Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul is the third movie for the anime series Made in Abyss and it’s the first movie in the franchise to not be a series compilation from the anime episodes. This movie picks up from where the end of the main series left off, where Nanachi joins the adventure into the abyss together with Riko and Regu. In Made in Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul our brave little adventurers descend into the 5th layer where they will soon find themselves experiencing dangers worse than the abyss frightful curse.
But even in the deepest pits of the abyss, there is a silver lining, and this comes embodied as a friendly, bubbly character named Prushka, who quickly warms up to Riko and her team. Can they really trust Prushka after finding out who her beloved “Papa” really is? Buckle up for the movie Made in Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul, because it will surely take you on a non-stop plot twist ride from start to finish.
1. The continuation of the plot is finally here
It was summer of 2017 and life was a little better… You had a little more time to check anime out and decided to give Made in Abyss a try. The cute chibi characters looked so “kawaii”, and you felt like you could relax and enjoy this cuddly series… Until it took you down into a deep and dark unexpected plot… Now… Now you understand why this series is called like this.
You could not stop delving into the abyss with Riko and Regu, always wanting to see more. The fast phased story, breathtaking scenery, the intriguing monsters, the darkness, the intense scenes, and the “I was absolutely not expecting that to happen” moments… It really made this anime a unique one... But it was over before we could process what just happened. We waited impatiently for the announcement of the next season but it never came… We put hopes on the first movie but it was all just a compilation of what we just saw, and we knew the second movie would bring more of the same… but the third time’s the charm, and after waiting three years this is it, what we all waited for! YOU GUYS, YES, Made in Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul CONTINUES THE MAIN STORY!
2. It takes what the anime made well and makes it even greater
Made in Abyss always had amazing background art, truly captivating monsters, and memorable characters, all gracefully put together to make us think that Made in Abyss is one of those rare beautiful gems we find in the now-cluttered anime world. In the movie Made in Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul this is to no surprise, also delivered, now topped with a new adorable loli we must protect. Did we mention that it also has intense action-packed scenes? Well, now you know. In this movie, Regu kicks some serious butt, we’re gonna see a new, more powerful Regu that will absolutely blow your mind… And it’s not even his final form! Expect new and exotic abyss creatures and how to eat them, new and exciting ways those creatures could kill the characters, and new and unexpected ways in which the story of this anime can surpass your expectations.
3. A lot of unanswered questions from the anime are answered here
Let’s start by saying that within the first five minutes we’ll get answers like: “What was that about Regu’s only memory with the field of white flowers?”, “Will they find other divers or more human enemies deeper in the abyss?”, “How much worse is the abyss curse going to get from what we’ve seen?” And that is just the tip of the iceberg… More things we can tell you just to tease are: Nanachi’s life gets expanded on, new abyss relics are shown in action, Regu’s origin gets expanded on and Riko finds a bigger reason why to become a White Whistle and a deeper, more mature purpose to continue diving into the abyss.
1. Friendly reminder that some anime are not for kids
Made in Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul will quickly remind you that some anime, especially this one, are not meant to be seen by the younger audience. The movie, like the anime, shows a lot of gore; guts, blood, and decaying corpses are the order of the day, so if you can not stand that stuff, you should skip this movie. Even for the brave viewers, it's fair to warn that Made in Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul shows plenty of violence against children, the bad guys don’t think twice about kicking kids around, nor killing them… Yeah, this movie gets even darker than what we have already seen from this series, and if you can not stand subjects like Stockholm syndrome, emotional abuse, or extreme violence, please opt for skipping Made in Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul.
2. NOT a series conclusion
Unfortunately or luckily, this third movie is not a series conclusion for the story of Made in Abyss, so, if you planned on binge-watching the movies to put your mind at ease over how can this series possibly end, then you’ll want to skip this movie and keep waiting for who knows how many years, because if this article could spoil you more in any way its that Made in Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul is nowhere near the end of the abyss nor the story it has to tell.
3. You might need therapy after it's over
If you have seen the Made in Abyss series before, you know it can get really dark, really quick, but even for gore series, this one is a tough one to watch. There is no way you can be ok after seeing how they execute a child via blood eagle, and even though they only hint it, this is a scene that will surely stay with you forever, and not in a good way.
Another huge red flag that you will want to know about before deciding to watch Made in Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul is regarding lolis and sexual hints. Even though they try to mask it as innocent children commenting on private body parts and their functions, the adult jokes are still present, and the busty loli was really not a necessity.
Lastly, if you are uncomfortable with the idea of murder, even more so when this includes the victim being tortured to death, please, PLEASE, stay away from this movie forever. And for those of us who finished watching this movie anyway, serious question... Are we ok? Are you doing well? If you need to talk about what you’ve seen, never feel bad about reaching out for help!
Only watch this movie if you are prepared for it, it’s a lot to take in, even for the fans of Made in Abyss. This movie is packed with information about the series that we did not have access to before, so you’ll find yourself overwhelmed with all that’s going on in here, we think this is the kind of movie that you’ll want to watch more than once, or pause and rewind to understand it better.
Nevertheless, it is a great movie, lots of action, lots of plot development, lots of everything, and that’s what we deserve after Made in Abyss went into a storytelling pause for so many years. Absolutely take advantage of the fact that this movie will be available on virtual cinema, right in your home, as of September 18, 2020!
