Seijo no Maryoku wa Bannou Desu (The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent) Review - A Slice of Life Adventure with Plenty of Comedy

Sei says goodbye to her work-filled life when she and another woman are the subjects of a summoning from another world. While the other girl is led away by the nation's prince, Sei is immediately snubbed as an "extra" to the summoning. With incredible frustration and composure, Sei slowly learns that she is a candidate as to who could have been summoned as the country's "Saint" and that while she will have a comfortable life in the new world, she can never go home. With equal composure, Sei accepts the severe news. And when no one is looking? She smiles about it.

Sei lives a life of education after it is discovered that in this new magic-filled world, Sei not only has magic but prodigious amounts of it, which she uses for life-saving applications. As Sei goes about discovering life in a new world, she finds friendships, education, personal skills, romance, and more. The workaholic never looks back at her old life. Seijo no Maryoku wa Bannou Desu (The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent) has been a happy little gem in this season's collection of anime. If you like a sweet story and an admirable female protagonist, you are in the right place.

A Slice of Life Adventure with Plenty of Comedy

The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent hit the nail on the head with that title. It seems that whatever Sei puts her effort into, without meaning to, some amount of extra power is included in everything she does. Early on in Sei's adventure, she learns to make basic medicines and discovers that somehow hers are measurably better than the same thing made from anyone else. Sei cannot cook without people seeing unnatural health benefits from her food.

The country's leadership tried to measure Sei's power repeatedly, with the same comedic result: that she is too powerful to be formally measured. She learns some amount of healing and turns out to be the only person we can see make area-of-effect healing spells, as she just took the idea from video games. When exploring deadly forests with a party of knights, they run into many fewer monsters than expected. "Something strong" must be encouraging the monsters to stay away. We see you, Sei!

Finding Friends, Magic, and Romance

Sei makes the best out of her new life. After she and another girl were "isekai'd" away, they have very little control over how they are both pulled in different directions and looked at with an expectation of being the Saint. Sei begins making potions and exploring a library, while the other girl she was with hangs out with the country's prince. Sei makes a great girlfriend in the library, and there is no shortage of handsome men who help Sei in her new life! This show hits more like an otome game than a harem, but there are many interesting characters other than this anime's main character!

On the subject of handsome men, we can't forget to mention Captain Hawke! Early on in her new-world experience, Sei is able to save a dying man, who turns out to be a military leader for the country's knights. From there, Captain Hawke and Sei become friends to Sei's Japanese perspective and, more than friends, to the eyes of everyone in the new world. Get ready to swoon over the sweet relationship between Captain Hawke and Sei and enjoy their adorable early-romance awkwardness together.

It Looks Like Happily Ever After

Anime fans are no stranger to excellent shows that have less than ideal endings. Either the story is not wrapped up, there are concerning plot holes that never quite get answered, or a company runs out of money and comes to a quicker ending. That is not the case here! The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent has a sweet story and includes a finish perfect for a josei romance. Our only wish is that this could have lasted a little longer! But let's not fault a good thing for not seeing into the future.

Even though the story does not leave you wanting for a better ending, there is enough source material, popularity, and room for growth for a season 2. There has been no announcement of this yet, but we are crossing our fingers!

Final Thoughts

The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent is a relaxing anime that is nothing but uplifting and positive. If you like other shoujo anime, this show hits the mark. There have been some excellently intense anime that have come out in the last few years, and The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent is the one-season palate cleanse that your heart needs. Did you catch this title yet? What are your thoughts?
