Subaru Mikazuki is an introverted novelist who rarely interacts with others. One day while visiting his parents' grave, Subaru finds a stray cat and decides to bring it home with him. Subaru names that cat Haru and the two begin their new life together. Living together brings Subaru all sorts of unexpected benefits as the cat not only helps provide inspiration for his novels, but also helps Subaru start to come out of his shell.

1. Feel Good Comedy
Barakamon and Doukyonin wa Hiza, Tokidoki, Atama no Ue tell some very feel-good stories that will keep you smiling all the way through. Both anime also features some fantastic comedy that not only makes you laugh, but also contributes to the overall positive and feel good style of the anime.
2. The Story and Characters
The stories of the anime feature a guy who struggles socially and eventually learn to overcome their issues and improve their lives. From there they start to meet all sorts of new people that change their lives in one way or another. If you enjoyed the characters in Barakamon, you will absolutely love the characters in Doukyonin wa Hiza, Tokidoki, Atama no Ue
3. Naru and Haru
While there are plenty of similar characters between the two anime, Haru and Naru are incredibly similar. Haru is the Naru to Subaru's Handa. Subarau and Honda both find themselves struggling with certain aspects of their lives and it isn't until they meet Haru and Naru, that their lives start to change. Outside of their role in the story, both characters also provided plenty of cute moments and comedy to their anime.

Piano no Mori follows the tale of two boys who have lived very different lives, but share a passion for the piano. Kai Ichinose lives in the red light district and is the son of a prostitute. Ever since he was young, Kai has snuck out into the forest in order to play a mysterious piano located there. Shuuhei Amamiya is the son of famous pianists and has been playing the piano since he was born. The world of piano brings the two boys together as they share their love for piano and strive to become better under the tutelage of Sosuke Ajino.

1. The Growth of the Characters
Kai and Shuuhei share many similarities with Handa. Shuuhei has a similar backstory to Handa and their pasts lead them to grow a similar passion and perfectionism to their arts. Kai goes through a similar growth to Handa, falling in love with the piano only to struggle when someone better show up in his life. Then we see as they grow throughout their journey as they improve their skills and fall in love with their art all over again.
2. Story Balance
Both Piano no Mori and Barakamon share a similar setup to their story balance. There is a great heartwarming story featuring the main characters finding their way in life. Intertwined into the story are plenty of comedy and dramatic moments throughout both series that are not only great at providing more emotional moments but also contributing to the overall story.
