The 5 Best Anime on Crunchyroll You Need to Watch Right Now! [Summer 2021]

Summer 2021 was a rather slow season for anime and we at Honey’s Anime wonder every year why that is. But regardless, there are some hidden gems that are sprinkled throughout the season that still entertained us as we plowed through the drought of anime. We’re sure you saw our “5 Anime To Watch This Summer 2021” article where we recommend anime based on its first impressions. But the season is coming to a close and some anime, for better or for worse, have changed. That’s why we’re here with a new list of recommendations for you from anime that surprised us to our all-time favorites that proved themselves to be just as good as the last season! Here are five anime that we recommend from the Summer 2021 lineup that you should watch on Crunchyroll right now!

5. Kanojo mo Kanojo (Girlfriend, Girlfriend)

After harboring unrequited love for many years, Naoya Mukai finally confesses to his childhood best friend, Saki Saki who willingly accepts him. However, just when things are getting good, he receives an abrupt confession from Nagisa Minase. Unable to really say no to Nagisa, Naoya comes up with the best (or worst) solution: two-timing. Naturally, Saki doesn’t like the idea (maybe she was onto something) but Naoya and Nagisa convince her to agree to this weird three-way affair that breaks the social norm.

Girlfriend, Girlfriend has an...interesting premise to say the least. But we at Honey’s Anime think that it sets itself up to be dumb from the very beginning on purpose. Sometimes all you need is a laugh and silliness and that’s exactly what Girlfriend, Girlfriend brings to the table. If you’re a fan of Kanojo, Okarishimasu (Rent-a-Girlfriend), you’ll find that these two anime have more in common than you think so give it a watch!

4. Bokutachi no Remake (Remake Our Life!)

Remake Our Life! follows the life of Kyouya Hashiba, a failure in life, who is on his way back home after his last company went bankrupt. Regretting his life choices that he made in school, he simply wishes to be back in the same place again and change his course of life. Surprisingly, fate answers his prayers and he finds himself in the past holding his two acceptance letters from an art school and an economics school. Confused yet determined to not let this second chance slip, Kyouya enrolls in art school to make his dream of being a video game director come true!

Bokutachi no Remake seems very plain at first but still holds a lot of mystery to its plot the more you watch it. There are many unanswered questions about why Kyouya went back in time and of course, the question of which girl he chooses. That’s one element that Remake Our Life! really embraces as there are some important moments throughout the show that not only tease us about the ongoing romance but also show the inner turmoil of the main character as he is forced to face their feelings.

3. Kaizoku Oujo (Fena: Pirate Princess)

Set on an island where there is no hope of becoming anything other than a chattel (a personal possession) of the British Empire, Fena wants to change her fate because she is no ordinary young and powerless orphan. Unable to remember her past, Fena’s life changes when she escapes to an island of pirates where she learns about her true identity and the truth behind her family. With Fena being the only family member to unlock the mysteries of her family and a formidable female crew, Fena embarks on her adventure of raiding the high seas and becoming a true pirate.

Fena: Pirate Princess was not on many people’s radar for this summer but Crunchyroll really took a lot of care in creating this anime because, from the very first episode, we were hooked! Fena is determined and courageous, making her instantly lovable and setting her apart from all the stereotypical anime characters. But that’s what we look for in anime: surprises and surprises. Fena’s story manages to pull you in from the very first episode as you start caring about the deeper mysteries on the show such as “What is Eden?” and “What’s the significance of the stone her father gave her?” Fena is one anime headed by Crunchyroll that you shouldn’t miss!

2. Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon S (Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S)

There is not a dull day in the Kobayashi household as Tooru continues to strive to become the best maid and a massive landslide is found at the exact spot that Tooru and Kobayashi met indicating the might of a dragon. As the duo tries to search for the perpetrator, she descends from the skies: Illulu, the radical Chaos Dragon with powers that rival Tooru. With another dragon in the mix, there is only going to be more trouble for Kobayashi!

We’re finally hitting some anime that we anticipated to be good that have stayed good throughout the season. Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S did not disappoint its fans this season and if you think this is just another anime that focuses on beautifully drawn girls who are used to replace the plot, think again. This second season starts to slowly bring out the true goal of the story: to be a wholesome comedy and that’s exactly what it does. While it isn’t plot-heavy like shounen anime, there is still enough story that will keep you entertained as you lose yourself in the comedy so don’t forget to check out this exciting second season!

1. Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken Season 2 Part 2 (That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime Season 2 Part 2)

That Time I Got Reincarnated As a Slime just keeps making amazing strides in the isekai genre as we join Rimuru once again in his quest to live a peaceful and happy life with his friends. This season follows the event of Walpurgis which was initiated by the annoyingly evil Clayman who wants to put an end to Tempest so that he can be reborn as a True Demon Lord. With Veldora reincarnated as a human and Rimuru’s new servant Diablo who is extremely capable, Jura Tempest Federation has nothing to fear while they face Clayman. But what if there’s someone pulling the strings of Clayman himself? Will Rimuru find out who it is before it’s too late?

That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime has practically become everyone’s favorite isekai and this season doesn’t disappoint either. While this season involves a lot of politics, all the information given becomes extremely relevant as you progress through the anime. Walpurgis is where all the existing Demon Lords will meet and you will be surprised at who they are. And wouldn’t you agree that a normal slime is possibly the coolest thing for the summer heat? Pun intended of course! So don’t forget to catch up on this hell of an isekai!
