Spring 2021 has the slow yet consistent burn going with many new Slice of Life anime and Shounen favorites returning this season. Just like the Spring season being calm and full of life, the lineup for this anime season reflects the weather quite perfectly. From something as exciting as Tokyo Revengers to the unique and dark psychological Higehiro: After Being Rejected, I Shaved and Took in a High School Runaway, the season is packed with great anime. But sometimes too many choices can be overwhelming. That’s why we’re here for you! Here are five great anime of Spring 2021 that you should check out on Crunchyroll!

5. Odd Taxi

The walrus Odokawa lives a pretty normal life, making a living driving a taxi. As it is natural, he meets various unique people such as Kabasawa who has great ambitions of going viral but no job, the struggling comedic duo “Homosapiens” and so on. A day is never the same in Odokawa’s normal life. But what happens when a case of a missing girl leads to him and both the yakuza and the police are on his tail? One thing for sure is that Odokawa’s life will never be normal!

We chose this anime because of its unique plot in a world of animals, well-developed mystery, and dark comedy. Odokawa is your typical oddball anime character that everyone loves and we really think that this anime deserves some love and affection!

4. Tokyo Revengers

Tokyo Revengers is the story of Takemichi Hanagaki who has reached the absolute pits of despair in life. His life sinks further when he finds out that his girlfriend from twelve years ago was killed by the Tokyo Manji Gang. When he is suddenly pushed over the edge of the railway platform, he thought that he was going to die. However, when Takemichi opens his eyes he’s back to twelve years ago, the best days of his life. Takemichi decides to use this opportunity to turn his life around and save his girlfriend!

Tokyo Revengers has been a widely anticipated anime of 2021 and it hasn’t let us down so far! With a lot of action set in school, this anime is the perfect next shounen anime you should pick!

3. Boku no Hero Academia 5th Season (My Hero Academia 5th Season)

UA Academy’s Class 1-A has faced much popularity after the series of villain attacks that targeted them over the past school year. This has left Class 1-B feeling bitter. In the mock battles that take place this year, Class 1-B is ready to showcase that they are indeed on the same level as Class 1-A. What happens when General Course Student Hitoshi Shinsou, who chooses to transfer to the Hero Course, is thrown into this mix? The mock battles are chaotic as each class will try to prove that they’re superior and better!

Do we really have to convince you to watch My Hero Academia? Set in the intense world of heroes and villains, My Hero Academia has proved its worth as a good shounen anime from the very first season, cementing that fact with its intense and exciting last season. This season gives a deeper look into Class 1-B and we’re excited for it!

2. Hige wo Soru. Soshite Joshikousei wo Hirou. (Higehiro: After Being Rejected, I Shaved and Took in a High School Runaway)

Next up, we have Higehiro! Like the title says, Yoshida gets rejected by his long-time crush, Gotou Airi. Frustrated and depressed, he gets drunk and, on his way home, he comes across Sayu Ogiwara all alone on a street late at night. Unable to think clearly, he takes her home and she tries to seduce him. However, even in his drunken state, Yoshida rejects her and goes to bed. Thus starts the new undefined relationship between a salaryman and a high school runaway as they live life together!

Higehiro has the perfect balance of wholesome and serious. There are various dark themes that are incorporated into the story but there are many light, funny and wholesome moments that take the tension off.

1. Fumetsu no Anata e (To Your Eternity)

An orb known as “it” is cast unto earth. “It” can change forms from beings whose reflections It captures. First a rock, then a wolf, and finally, a boy. As It attains awareness of its consciousness, It gains the name FUSHI. Through encounters with humanity and human kindness, Fushi gains survival skills and learns how to live on planet Earth. Join him in his adventure as he bids goodbye to important people, shouldering the pain of leaving that is all too familiar to humanity.

To Your Eternity is one of those anime that comes by once in a lifetime or twice if you’re lucky. It’s the kind of anime that one must watch at least once to gain a whole new perspective of this world. With intricate animation and great storytelling, this anime is one you should definitely watch this Spring 2021!
