Top 5 Male Aquarius Anime Characters

It’s almost February, and it’s time for Aquarius birthdays! This zodiac sign commonly has people who can think a little differently and survive independently. They have a sense of strength and individuality, but they can be empathetic. Though they have lots of positive traits, Aquarius signs can find themselves to be perfectionists, and they have a hard time being controlled once they lose their temper. We know and love Aquarius signs, and it’s their birthday season! Let’s take a moment to talk about our favorite Aquarius guys in anime!

Happy Birthday, Aquarius Guys!

5. Ougai Mori, from Bungou Stray Dogs (Bungo Stray Dogs)

  • Birthday: February 17

We start with an excellent example of an Aquarius, Ougai Mori. This head of the Port Mafia exudes forward-thinking and creativity that allows his crime syndicate to flourish. Cunning and perfectionism drive the mafia into performing everything they accomplish in style. This doctor-mafioso has the drive to have a skilled group of hell-raisers working for him, always ready for their next assignment. Ougai is a leader that is usually well-measured with his emotions, but when his temper flares, a monstrous side of himself awakens.

4. Ban, from Nanatsu no Tazai (The Seven Deadly Sins)

  • Birthday: February 14

Next up is Ban, from the Seven Deadly Sins! Though he was born under the sign of Aquarius, he will never have an astrological sign to die under, because Ban is immortal. After drinking from the Fountain of Youth, Ban became unable to die. This fighter will come back for more regardless of limb or blood loss. Ban is shrewd in his fighting style and finds ways to incorporate his inability to die when fighting stronger opponents. Though this fighter and excellent cook can be a fierce friend, Ban has no sympathy for others once his anger is activated.

3. Byakuya Kuchiki, from Bleach

  • Birthday: January 31

Byakuya is up next! This anime is old, but the characters are still excellent, even by today’s standards. Byakuya is the older brother of Rukia. He is a results-oriented person who expects precision and perfection. His resolve to do what he decides is unmatched. He is the head of a noble household, and he brings his name no dishonor. He is high-functioning, intelligent, and independent. This Aquarius comes in at number three on this list!

Don’t forget to check out the upcoming Thousand-Year Blood War. It is the first new addition to Bleach in years!

2. Tetta Kisaki, from Tokyo Revengers

  • Birthday: January 20

When it comes to his goals, Tetta Kisaki does not play around. This Aquarius is a new character, as Tokyo Revengers was released in 2021. Kisaki is exceptionally intelligent and is someone with a master plan. He is calculating, goal-oriented, and doesn’t let a little thing like death or destruction stand in his way. Though he is not physically the strongest, his charisma and unusual background influencing abilities go a long way. He has been in multiple gangs and is so individualistic that he has no bond with them. They are the people he needs to get where he wants to be.

1. Giyu Tomioka, from Kimetsu no Yaiba (Demon Slayer)

  • Birthday: February 8

And our favorite anime guy with an Aquarius sign is Giyu from Demon Slayer! When Tanjirou and Giyu first meet, for some reason, this hashira DOES NOT KILL THE DEMON in front of him, Nezuko. It works out for the best that Nezuko lives, but only a very independently-thinking person would consider doing something like this. His swordsmanship in the water-breathing style results from the perfectionism that this zodiac sign often exudes. He slays and takes names with all the strength that his hashira status would suggest. Soft-spoken and guarded, Giyu is our favorite Aquarius guy in anime this time around.

Aloof and shy, the Aquarius is not a sign that is naturally feared. However, this shy temperament can often combine well with humanitarian work, making the Aquarius a worthy and motivated friend to have around. Once you get to know them, their true nature emerges and displays and energetic and upbeat individual. The Aquarius is no dummy either, they need intellectual stimulation to live up to their full potential. Being born an Aquarius may not seem like the best sign, but they truly can be exceptional. The world is their oyster and they are able see it for its possibilities.

There are many anime characters born under the sign of Aquarius with birthdays between January 20th and February 18th. However, in this list we will only bring together the ones that show the true traits of the Aquarius and rank them accordingly. These shy and quiet individuals are generally more than what meets the eye and can be expanded on through their character development. Without further ado, we give you the top 10 male Aquariuses.

10. Spain from Hetalia Axis Powers

  • Episodes: 52
  • Aired: January 2009 - March 2010

Spain is much more upbeat than the others on this list. As one of the older nations, he is constantly picked on for being beaten by his younger counterparts. He remains in good spirits despite the hardships that he has endured. He lacks the Aquarius trait that allows him to be sensitive to others emotions and often babbles insensitive comments without thinking to the other countries. However, he dreams of a better world where everyone is at peace and remains a cheerful and uncharacteristically out-spoken Aquarius.

9. Urie Sogami from Dance with Devils

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: October 2015 - December 2015

As the second top in command at Shiko Academy, Urie is a powerful devil under the control of Rem Kaginuki. Although he is very outgoing, he likes to be intellectually stimulated and is easily bored. By luring Ritsuka out, he is able to antagonize Rem and create discord among the student council. Urie likes to create chaos and call the fellow student council members out when they are being irrational. By being one of the most rational people, he is able to see the others clearly and not be thwarted by his emotions. His unwavering intellect and ability to see through others, even in dire situations is what makes him one of our top Aquarius.

8. Hiyori Tono from Free!: Dive to the Future

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: July 2018 - September 2018

Hiyori is brutally honest and outspoken despite him being a very introverted character. All of his insults are part of an intellectual battle which allows him to be mentally stimulated. He wishes for no one to harm Ikuya and is very protective of his friends. Hiyori means no harm to those around him and just wishes to protect those who are close to him. He is an admirable character who is known for his loyalty which allows him to earn a spot on our list.

7. Hajime Saito from Hakuouki (Hakuoki Demon of the Fleeting Blossom)

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: April 2010 - June 2010

Saito is a very quiet person who is observant of the world around him. He is a good listener and fights for what he believes in with unwavering loyalty. He obeys every order without question and seeks to promote his cause to the Japanese people around them. He fights for a better world and while he is an admirable fighter, we also see him open up and display a more compassionate side. At first, this steely cold man seems almost cruel, but as we see the layers peel back, he is displayed as an admirable Aquarius with the world’s best interests in mind.

6. Izuna Uchiha from Naruto: Shippuuden

  • Episodes: 500
  • Aired: February 2007 - March 2017

Izuna seeks only to protect his clan. As a fearsome warrior, Izuna is cool headed and keeps the best interests of his clan at heart. While he prefers fighting in war, he is no stranger to intellectual challenges either. In war he can be uncompromising when it comes to fighting his enemies but is always there when needed by his clan or his friends. He is an admirable Aquarius but also shows the flaws that are typical in an Aquarius. Izuna is both unwavering and independent. He puts a lot of faith into those around him but is not afraid to stand up for what is right.

5. Nishiki Nishio from Tokyo Ghoul

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: July 2014 - September 2014

Nishiki is an excellent example of what happens when the negative aspects of an Aquarius are all combined and are at the forefront of who they are as a character. Initially seen as stuck up and rude, he seeks to be independent and hates to obey rules. However, his character improves when he is almost killed by Ken Kaneki and he grows closer to his girlfriend, Kimi. He grows into a kinder character who keenly observes the world around him. Although Nishiki does display negative aspects at the beginning of Tokyo Ghoul, he soon learns from his experiences as a ghoul and becomes a more lovable character.

4. Kirihito Mori from Kamisama Hajimemashita (Kamisama Kiss)

  • Episodes: 13
  • Aired: October 2012 - December 2012

In his human days, Kirihito Mori was a character that was shy and considerate. After suffering an unfortunate snowboarding accident, he had the most ill-fated encounter. With the powerful Akura-Ou using his body as a tether to the human world, his personality changed dramatically. However, even when Akura-Ou was in Kirihito’s body, he still displayed traits of an Aquarius. He was more mean and selfish but he was also quiet and contemplative. Both spirits that used this body had traits of the Aquarius and are able to show us the stark contrast between a good and evil Aquarius.

3. Eld Jinn from Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan)

  • Episodes: 25
  • Aired: April 2013 - September 2013

As a stiff but silent leader, Eld Jinn was productive and strong. He seeked to know the why behind Eren turning into a titan rather than outright despising him like many of the other squad members. Handpicked by Levi Ackerman, it is easy to see the similarities between them. They are both aloof and rarely show emotion. However, they see what the right path is and fight for it until their last breath. This unwavering devotion makes Eld a true Aquarius and puts him towards the top of our list.

2. Houshou Takigawa from Ghost Hunt

  • Episodes: 25
  • Aired: October 2006 - March 2007

With a side job as a monk, Houshou Takigawa has a pretty good handle on his emotions. He is able to maintain his intellectual stimulation by being a creator through his music. He is a teacher and often councils Mei on how to deal with spirits. He is very powerful and unyielding in his actions. However, he is not proud and is always around to help when needed. He fights to help others even when he wants to distance himself from the temple. He is an ideal Aquarius because of these personality traits. His ability to give himself 110% to a cause in both body and mind is part of what earns him a spot towards the top of our list.

1. Soo-wan from Akatsuki no Yona (Yona of the Dawn)

  • Episodes: 24
  • Aired: October 2014 - March 2015

Soo-wan is a difficult character to place. He murders his king in order to take the throne for the good of his country. He has the well-being of the world in mind when doing this even though it will destroy his relationship with Yona. He is soft-spoken and somewhat shy in appearances even though, behind it all lies a powerful agenda. Soo-wan is progressive in his actions and seeks to be the best ruler that he can, not minding that he steps on a few toes. These qualities put him at the top of our list.

Final Thoughts

Aquariuses are known for seeing the world for its possibilities. They seek to work for a cause and see it through until their last day. This is part of what makes them so admirable. However, they can also be selfish and cruel. They avoid emotional expression because it is seen as a sign of weakness. However, when getting to know an Aquarius, it is important to remember that their hard exterior is only a façade and that they are really just soft on the inside. These people and characters may be difficult to read initially but it is worth it to see who they really are as a person, for both their good and their bad qualities.
