Male Leo Anime Characters [Updated]

The Leo is often seen as confident, loyal, ambitious, and loves to be the center of attention. They fiercely protect those around them and have very big hearts. That sounds very much like a lion and today, we will be looking at some of the top male anime Leos and seeing if they match up to their stellar expectations. This is an update to a previous list so be sure to check out the original below this article when you're finished for even more. Now, without further ado, let's get stargazing!

5. Tenya Iida from Boku no Hero Academia (My Hero Academia)

Iida is the student president of U.A's Class 1-A. With a strict demeanor and one who loves to follow rules to the letter, Iida has struck a chord with My Hero Academia fans for his unwavering loyalty and intense friendship. Iida started his run throughout My Hero Academia as nothing more than Deku and Uraraka's third-wheel. However, he quickly made a name for himself throughout the initial tournament arc, where he showed off his blinding speed.

Iida's storyline touched on some very emotional issues. After his brother, the famous hero Ingenium, was attacked by Hero Killer Stain, Iida took up the name and decided to take matters into his own hands. Not wanting to put his precious friends in danger, he vowed to take on Stain single-handedly. Luckily, his friends were not ones to see him suffer and quickly arrived to back him up. Iida is less of a spotlight hog and more of a subtle supporting character. In that respect, he is not very much like a typical Leo. However, where his star sign shines through is with his respectful nature and loyalty to his friends no matter what!

4. Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez from Bleach

Next up, let's talk about someone who loves drama as much as a typical Leo should. Grimmjow isn't loyal. Grimmjow isn't generous. Grimmjow isn't particularly compassionate to his comrades or those around him. No, what Grimmjow loves more than anything, is achieving his goals, and putting on a show. After first being introduced to Grimmjow, it's clear that he's loud, obnoxious, and is going to speak his mind regardless of who is listening.

However, after delving into the Hueco Mundo arc of Bleach, Grimmjow and Ichigo square off and we bear witness to Grimmjow's deadly panther form. During this fight against Ichigo, Grimmjow continuously states that he desires nothing more than to defeat Ichigo at full strength. That the two will finally have their one-on-one showdown and the last man standing can go home alive (citing this as a reason enough for them to fight—to test their strength). Grimmjow may not be the most loving or loyal but be damned if he isn't confident in his own power.

3. Lavi from D.Gray-Man

Lavi loves being the center of attention. Lavi is loud, energetic, and more than ready to hit on anything with a pulse! Much like a traditional showoff, typical Leos are not ones to shy away from excessive PDA (public displays of affection). We all remember Lavi's signature "Strike" catchphrase whenever he is introduced to a lovely lady.

Even when one of these ladies Lavi becomes interested in turns out to be an Akuma (Chomesuke), Lavi can't help but to feel his feelings and chase after her regardless. Leos are often devoted to their partners if their love is well-received. While Lavi is a typical Leo in his confident hitting on anything that moves, he must have missed the memo about loyalty...

2. Hachiman Hikigaya from Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru (My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU)

Hachiman is perhaps the biggest outlier with regards to the typical Leo. He loathes being the center of attention, he holds no particular goals or ambitions, he despises drama, and is not very generous (at least when it concerns the time he allots before judging someone). Hikigaya is a brooding outsider who embodies that of the rat as oppose to a mighty lion.

However, for those who stick with the show, they will come to see that Hikigaya just cannot help but stick his neck out for the people he cares about. Despite ranting and monologue for countless episodes about his misanthropy, he continues time and again to put his own social position in the firing line, in order to assist his friends and loved ones achieve their goals. Hikigaya's story is one of the typical coming of age narrative. It's almost as if he learns to embody the typical Leo traits over the course of the series.

Plus, we'd be remiss not to include the literal 8-man ("Hachi-man") on this list. His birthday is the 8th of the 8th!

1. Yato from Noragami

Finally, we have Yato. For those unaware, Yato doesn't really embody the positive qualities in humans in general, let alone those niche to the typical Leo. Yato is a god but one without any followers or supporters. In order to gain more of a following, he does odd jobs about his town for five yen apiece. However, Yato is also prone to conning his fellow man (including his supposed girlfriend, Kofuku), prioritizing his own life over anyone else's, and generally not caring about anything that doesn't directly impact his personal status.

However, upon meeting a young human girl named Hiyori, Yato starts to find that his actions have consequences for the ones who do care about him. Yato comes to realize that follower quality, may just be more important than follower quantity. Yato, at the start of Noragami, holds big ambitions and does crave the limelight as a typical Leo should. However, by the end of Noragami, Yato takes a step on the right path and seeks to embody the more positive Leo qualities of loyalty and friendship!

Final Thoughts

So, there you have it! Leos come in all shapes and sizes and while some embody typical tropes from the positive side of the spectrum, some just as easily follow a more negative path. It goes without saying, of course, that not all Leos will embody every trait expected of them, but hopefully, these few could live up to what their star signs say about them! Leos are arguably one of the most exciting zodiac signs to be around. They are passionate and cheerful which allows them to have a pleasant heir around them. Leos are additionally known to delight in humor and excel creatively. As with all signs, Leos have their traits that can lead to downfall. Their passion can turn to laziness and their humor can transform into stubbornness. These traits can lead to the most exciting person on the planet or morph them into someone who is dreadful to be around and who puts off a horrible aura. Leos can be one of the most admirable traits in the zodiac and is one of the most passionate signs to be born under. Take pride, if you are a Leo (or any other sign for that matter) in your strengths and use them to overcome your worst impulses.

When we analyze the list of anime characters born under this sign, we have to analyze them for both their positive and negative traits. Like no human can only have great characteristics, no anime character can either. It is important to take this into consideration when analyzing because we have to analyze these great characters for not only their strengths but also how they overcome the weaknesses of their sign.

10. Isaac Foster from Satsuriku no Tenshi (Angels of Death)

  • Episodes: 12
  • Air Date: July 2018 - September 2018

Isaac is a difficult character on this list to place. He is not cheerful or humorous and does not display many of the positive characteristics of a Leo. He is stubborn and selfish. He uses Rachel for his own selfish desire to reach the end of the game and only starts to question his motives and show some humanity after he develops deeper feelings for Rachel. The stereotypical generous and warm-hearted nature of the Leo is not present in Isaac, which makes him fall to the bottom of our list.

9. Shinya Kogami from Psycho-Pass

  • Episodes: 22
  • Air Date: October 2012 - March 2013

Kogami is not someone that enjoys small talk. He is a no-nonsense detective that takes his work more seriously than anything else. When it comes to solving crimes, Kogami is one of the best, but his work attitude transitions into his personal life which makes it difficult for any personal or close relationships. He also is extremely inflexible when it comes to pretty much anything in his life, which makes him more dull than the other characters on this list and is not characteristic of a Leo. Kogami’s life is work and while he is certainly an admirable character, he does not display the traits of a Leo as well as others on this list.

8. Kusuo Saiki from Saiki Kusuo no Ψ-nan (The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.)

  • Episodes: 120
  • Air Date: July 2016 - December 2016

Kusuo is almost too cool for school. He has the most outrageous abilities but because of this, nothing surprises him. He finds almost nothing humorous and is never cheerful. Most of the time, it seems like the only thing that he is passionate about is coffee jelly. However, these moods make him come off as incredibly arrogant and self-centered. Kusuo is frustrating because he makes himself out to be better than everyone around him, but he displays the self-centered nature of the Leo well. He avoids large crowds and dislikes talking to pretty much anyone. This character embodies many of the more negative characteristics of the Leo.

7. Hinata Shintani from Kaichou wa Maid-sama! (Maid Sama!)

  • Episodes: 26
  • Air Date: April 2010 - September 2010

Hinata is the long lost childhood friend that everyone wishes that they had. He is kind and compassionate and harbors a deep and passionate love for Misaki. He is the most cheerful person imaginable and brings joy to everyone around him. He rarely has a bad attitude and even is friendly to those that he considers his enemies. Even when he feels that things are more difficult for him, he chooses to refrain from being selfish and let others lives go on without him. Hinata is the guy that many Leos strive to be because he only displays the most positive traits of the sign. However, without some negative ones, we find that his character is lacking the depth that some of the others possess and earning him a lower spot on our list.

6. Darien Shields from Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon (Sailor Moon)

  • Episodes: 46
  • Air Date: March 1992 - February 1993

Darian, aka Tuxedo Mask, is sworn to protect and defend his princess. However, things become dicey when he finds out that the love of his life is such a crybaby. Despite his irritation, Darien comes through when necessary and is constantly around to save the day. His character displays an arrogant and stubborn attitude even though his true feelings are more passionate. Darien is a good representation of both sides of the character of a Leo.

5. Nagisa Hazuki from Free! (Free! Iwatobi Swim Club)

  • Episodes: 12
  • Air Date: July 2013 - September 2013

Nagisa is not one that faces any situation with a malicious attitude. His personality is very straightforward and he intends on making the best out of any situation. Nagisa is an admirable friend and teammate and always does his best. His trustworthiness is something to be admired and he rarely lets anyone down if he can help it. Nagisa is an admirable Leo and displays the passion and friendliness that this horoscope sign is known for.

4. Sasuke Uchiha from Naruto

  • Episodes: 220
  • Air Date: October 2002 - February 2007

Sasuke started out being an average Leo, very cheerful and able to bring joy to all of those around him. However, as darkness started to creep into is life through his family’s murder, he learns to fall far away from the happy-go-lucky person that he used to be. This change morphs him into an unpleasant fellow and international criminal. He becomes stubborn and inflexible until he meets Naruto who makes him see the error in his ways. This changes him into a happy medium that should be proud to be a Leo.

3. Ryoutarou Tsuchiura from Kiniro no Corda: Primo Passo (La Corda d’Oro: Primo Passo)

  • Episodes: 25
  • Air Date: October 2006 - March 2007

Ryoutarou seems serious about everything that he approaches, this includes soccer, piano and women. His passion is visible through any outlet that he chooses to express himself in and this passion can sometimes come off as being self-centered by others around him. He will put aside his relationships for his craft and this is often frowned upon by those who don’t understand what he is experiencing. His focus on his activities is an admirable trait of any Leo and he is worthy of a high spot on our list.

2. Tomoe from Kamisama Hajimemashita (Kamisama Kiss)

  • Episodes: 13
  • Air Date: October 2012 - December 2012

As a fox demon that is full of lust and desire, Tomoe portrays the negative aspects of the Leo quite well. He is stubborn and arrogant towards anyone except his most trusted friends and shrine members and he is uncompromising when it comes to his own personal rules. Though when he warms up to Nanami, he displays a more cheerful side when getting his way. She is able to change him into a more passionate and warm-hearted fox. This mix of traits earned him a top spot on our list.

1. Hak Son from Akatsuki no Yona (Yona of the Dawn)

  • Episodes: 24
  • Air Date: October 2014 - March 2015

Hak is a great warrior. After training all of his life to protect the princess, Yona, Hak is able to use his skills to the fullest. However, being born under such a passionate sign can lead him to have conflicting feelings towards the beautiful princess. To hide these emotions, he displays an aura of stubbornness and arrogance. These traits often make Yona angry with him because of his apparent love one moment then disdain the next. His passion and overall spunk make Hak an excellent fighter and worthy advisory. Hak is definitely a character to be admired but has difficult balancing his emotions putting him at the top of our list of top Leos.

Final Thoughts

Leos are known for being creative, compassionate and cheerful people. They light up a room whenever they walk into it and have no problem with chatting up others. They are the kind of people that make others feel like the most important person in the world, particularly romantic partners because of their passionate nature. However, on a bad day and when they draw on their worst impulses, they can be arrogant, stubborn and overall frustrating. This makes it hard to maintain relationships without the awareness of these traits. Leo is an incredible sign to be born under, but without keeping your negative traits in check, they can be your downfall.

We hope that you have enjoyed this list of the top 10 male Leos. As always, if you have any questions or comments please feel free to leave them in the comments section below.
