Admit it: if you’re a One Piece fan, you probably want a Devil Fruit. Who wouldn’t? In exchange for your ability to swim, you could get an incredible power like turning into fire or setting up invisible barriers. Unless you’re a sailor or Michael Phelps, this is a pretty sweet deal. With so many Devil Fruits out there, though, it may be tough to pick out your favorite even if chances are pretty good that you’re going to get a sick power-up.
We’ve done a list like this before, but it’s been several years since then and frankly, there’s been tons of awesome new fruits introduced. It’s only fitting that we take a look at some of the new powers we’ve seen or highlight some that we missed last time. There are only 2 we saw fit to return. Let’s count ‘em down!
- Spoilers Ahead -
10. Ito Ito no Mi (Donquixote Doflamingo)
The ability to control and create strings is probably not the first thing that comes to mind when you think of overpowered abilities, but in the world of One Piece, the Ito Ito no Mi is something to be feared. As Trebol himself states, “only warriors destined to be kings are worthy of the power of the Ito Ito no Mi”. By shoving strings into a victim’s limbs, the Ito Ito no Mi grants its user the power to force anyone to bend completely to their new master’s will by changing them into a marionette. Those who are weak don’t even have the chance to fight back against it.
Of course, even those strong enough to resist the strings can struggle against it, as the definition of “string” is very loose. Sure, Doflamingo can basically weave any weapon he needs, but he can even recreate the very fibers that hold his body together when he’s beaten down. This effectively makes him invulnerable unless you can take him down in a single blow!
9. Soru Soru No Mi (Mother Caramel, Big Mom)
There are only 2 known counters to the Soru Soru no Mi, which grants its user control of souls. The first of which is the Yomi Yomi no Mi, which when eaten gives its new owner the power to separate their soul from their body and thus, the Soru Soru no Mi will have no effect. The other is to simply not fear the user of the Soru Soru no Mi, as fear indicates that someone has possession of your individuality. Frankly, the only way this power could be considered overpowered is if the user themselves was ridiculously strong.
And then you realize the one who ate the… let’s just say “power” of the Soru Soru no Mi is Big Mom and it all makes sense. With the Soru Soru no Mi, no one can even think about talking back to her, as it means she can simply drain your life away without the chance to even fight back. Only those who believe they have the strength to stand up to Big Mom have a chance. Otherwise, she can just remove your entire lifespan and you can’t do anything about it.
Plus, Big Mom can Horcrux it up and imbue her soul into any object she pleases. Trees, her ship, the clouds… anything is possible. This also means that anything she puts her soul into also gets a fraction of her mighty strength, which for Big Mom means even 0.1% of her full power is going to be stronger than your average person. It makes you wonder why she even bothers with a pirate crew.
8. Mochi Mochi no Mi (Charlotte Katakuri)
You know that song “Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better” from Annie Get Your Gun? As it turns out, Katakuri could sing that to Luffy and genuinely mean it. Yes, having power over a very mild Japanese candy doesn’t exactly have the same kick to it that, say, having power over earthquakes might have, but really, that’s just secondary to what the Mochi Mochi no Mi can do in practice. In actuality, its user can grow exponentially and shape their body into whatever they desire. So any of Luffy’s advantages like being able to inflate his body and stretch around? Katakuri can do that and more. All he has to do is infuse his attacks with Haki and he can create any weapon he desires.
Plus, if overwhelming an opponent in combat doesn’t work out, the user can just crush them in an unending pile of Mochi. Why even bother with a fight?
7. Shibo Shibo no Mi (Charlotte Smoothie)
All it takes is one touch. That’s it. If Smoothie can get her hands around you, then she’ll squeeze all the fluids out of you and ingest them herself. When this happens, not only will you be left as a literal husk of flesh, but she’ll drink your essence to continually increase her power. If she can’t get near you though, no biggie. She can squeeze out fluids from non-living objects as well and it’ll have the same effect. After that, Smoothie will use her juices to blast out powerful shockwaves. Wringing you out just makes it easier.
Don’t think of using any sneaky tricks either. If you try to poison her, she can just use her own power on herself to squeeze out any toxins flowing in her body. The only way to win is through sheer force, which no small feat.
6. Zou Zou no Mi, Model: Mammoth (Jack)
Okay, everyone, get your “Lack” jokes out of the way right now, because, frankly, they are completely unfounded. The Mammoth model of the Zou Zou no Mi gives its user the power to, well, turn into a wooly mammoth! We don’t think we need to explain how ridiculously overpowered that is, but since everyone likes to dunk on Jack, we’ll elaborate. This means that whoever eats this fruit gets all the might and stamina of an ancient wooly mammoth. They can turn into a giant honkin’ elephant, rampage through downtown, and you couldn’t do a thing about it. Not even call animal control.
Now if only Jack would quit rushing into battles with former marine admirals and nation-sized goliath monsters...
5. Bisu Bisu no Mi (Charlotte Cracker)
Even though Cracker is ranked lower than Katakuri in Big Mom’s crew, we’re still giving the edge to the Bisu Bisu no Mi. Why? Because the only reason Katakuri is able to bring out the full extent of the Mochi Mochi no Mi is due to his mastery of Haki. Meanwhile, the Bisu Bisu no Mi effectively gives its user the power to spawn an infinite supply of cookie soldiers to do their fighting for them. Or it can serve as an incredibly easy to repair armor that can never go away.
Think about it: the only reason Luffy was even able to beat Cracker was by eating every single one of his biscuit men thanks to the black hole that is Luffy’s stomach. Cracker himself admits that he’s lazy and has absolutely no stamina or physical abilities thanks to his power. Had he been any stronger, he could even give Big Mom a run for her money!
4. Kira Kira no Mi (Jozu)
Poor Jozu. He gets so overshadowed by Whitebeard, Marco, Blackbeard, and Ace that it’s so easy to overlook the Kira Kira no Mi. However, this particular fruit turns its eater into a diamond, also known as the hardest substance known to man! Admittedly, there’s not a lot of versatility to being a diamond, as the most we ever see Jozu do is jump into the air, turn into a diamond, and come crashing back down into the ground. It’s not like we’ve ever seen him shoot crystals or anything.
But sometimes the simplest approach is the most effective. After all… it’s a diamond. The only thing that could ever break a diamond is another diamond. Even Mihawk, the strongest swordsman in the world, couldn’t put a dent into Jozu. The only way he was beaten was by Aojiki restricting his movements by freezing him in ice. In a matchup of pure force, we’re not sure if there’s anyone who could actually break through Jozu’s armor!
3. Zushi Zushi no Mi (Fujitora)
Sure, other admirals can turn into pure light or magma, but who else can claim to control the very forces that keep people rooted to the ground?! The Zushi Zushi no Mi has the power to alter gravity within a certain range, so naturally, Fujitora can use it to handily crush whoever goes up against him into submission just by turning up the gravitational pull of the planet. Or he can create a rain of rubble by gathering up as much trash or stone into the air and then releasing it.
Of course, the Zushi Zushi no Mi isn’t just a purely offense-oriented fruit either. We’ve seen Fujitora get some mobility out of it by simply hopping on a rock he’s sent floating and flying it like his own personal hoverboard. We’re sure Fujitora’s got more up his sleeve to boot!
2. Yami Yami no Mi (Thatch, Blackbeard)
One of our 2 returning fruits from our last list, we have to give a shout-out to the Yami Yami no Mi despite it being the only Logia type with an extremely obvious weakness. After all, even though it gives its user control over dark matter, it doesn’t allow its user to transform into dark matter either. That’s always been a key component in what makes Logia fruits so great.
However, the trade-off for this is that it also grants the power to cancel out any other Devil Fruit. This effectively makes Blackbeard a walking tank of magnetic seastone who uses black holes to suck up Devil Fruit users and make them nearly helpless once he gets his hands on them. Combine that with being able to compress and crush together anyone or thing that gets caught in his dark waves, and you’ve got a nearly unstoppable power. There’s a reason Blackbeard wanted it so badly, after all!
1. Gura Gura no Mi (Whitebeard, Blackbeard)
Of course, still topping this list is the one and only Gura Gura no Mi. How could we not? It’s the fruit that started a war that changed the world. In the wrong hands, it could actually destroy the planet. Whitebeard demonstrated a bit of this power by creating an island-sized tsunami that could have destroyed the Marine HQ if Aokij hadn’t been able to freeze it. Blackbeard even later used it to split up the battleground into 2 separate platforms and caused them to shake independently of one another.
But really, we don’t even know if that’s the full extent of its power. All we know is that Blackbeard wanted it so bad that he was willing to go up against the strongest man in the world just for the chance to claim its power for himself. And who could blame him? Even if the Logia-types grant their user intangibility by transforming into an element, they still have a way you could feasibly counter them. Earthquakes though? What can you do against those?
Final Thoughts
We’re nearing about 80 known Devil Fruits so far, and there’s no way we don’t have a bunch more on the way. However, as of now, these are the best of what we’ve seen, based on pure offensive capabilities or unique uses of the power.

Devil Fruits, a mysterious type of fruit when eaten will grant its user powers. The powers vary from each type of fruit eaten and no Devil Fruits of the same kind will exist at the same time. Making Devil Fruits a valuable item to obtain. Albeit it grants those who ate the fruit extraordinary powers, there is one fatal weakness for Devil Fruit users, and that is being unable to swim or powerless when submerged in water. Devil Fruits are mainly categorized in to 3 types; Paramecia (Superhuman physical abilities or traits), Zoan (Animal/weapon hybrid transformation), and Logia (Transforms into the element itself).
10. Mera Mera no Mi (Flame-Flame Fruit)
The Mera Mera no Mi (Flame-Flame Fruit) is a Logia type fruit that allows the eater to possess the ability to transform its eater’s whole body into the element of fire and control them at their will. The first seen user of this fruit is Portgas D. Ace and some of the deadly techniques Ace acquired while wielding the power of this devil fruit include Hiken, or “Fire Fist” which is Ace’s signature attack and the technique that earned his nickname the “Fire Fist Ace”.
It was used by Ace when he was battling against Marshall D. Teach or Kurohige. One more notable mention from his powers is Ace’s ultimate technique Dai Enkai: Entei, or “Great Flame Commandment: Flame Emperor”
9. Goro Goro no Mi (Rumble-Rumble Fruit)
Similar to the Mera Mera no Mi, Goro Goro no Mi is a Logia-type Devil Fruit that grants its eater the ability to transform into the element of electricity and control them at eater’s will. Wielding the power of this Devil Fruit is Enel, “God of Skypiea”. Having this power allows Enel to transform use his ultimate technique Max 200,000,000 Volt Amaru or “Thunder God”, which transforms Enel into a giant Raijin(Thunder God) made of pure electricity. It was seen during his fight with Luffy in the Skypiea Arc.
8. Hie Hie no Mi (Ice-Ice Fruit)
Hie Hie no Mi or Ice-Ice Fruit is a Logia-type Devil Fruit that grants its eater the ability to transform into the element of ice and control them at its will. Admiral Aokiji or Kuzan is the current user of this devil fruit. With this power, Aokiji can easily freeze a large area of ocean and everything in it. This technique is called Ice Age.
After the resignation of Fleet Admiral Sengoku, Aokijin and Akainu battled to the death for 10 days on the island for the Fleet Admiral position. Aokiji was able to turn half the island into a frozen wasteland. Akainu eventually won the battle proving his superiority over Aokiji.
7. Magu Magu no Mi (Magma-Magma Fruit)
Magu Magu no Mi or Magma-Magma Fruit is a Logia-type Devil Fruit that grants its eater the power to transform into magma and control them at his will. Sakazuki or Akainu, one of the Marine Admirals, was revealed wielding the power of this Devil Fruit. Unlike Portgas D. Ace’s powers of the Mera Mera no Mi who grants the power of flames, Sakazuki’s Magu Magu no Mi pose as a more superior Devil Fruit than him. (Magma is stronger than flame)
In the Marineford arc, Akainu was seen using his signature technique Dai Funka, or “Great Eruption” to melt the incoming iceberg attack from one of the Whitebeard Pirates. Using his powers, Akainu succeeded in fatally injuring Jinbei and Luffy before they escaped Marineford.
6. Pika Pika no Mi (Glint-Glint Fruit)
Pika Pika no Mi is a Logia-type Devil Fruit that grants its eater the ability to transform into the element of light and control them at its eater’s will. Eating this fruit has granted Admiral Kizaru incredible abilities such as being able to travel at the speed of light, being able to shift into light to bypass incoming attacks, and of course attacking his opponents using the speed of light.
One of his techniques include Yasakani no Magatama or the "Yasakani String of Jewels”, and it was seen in the battle of Marineford where he fires a barrage of deadly light particles that causes extreme damage when hit. It was shown to easily penetrate the layer of ice around Marineford.
5. Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit: Phoenix
Zoan Devil Fruits are devil fruits that allow its eater to transform into another species or hybrid species at will i.e. weapons, animals, and beasts. Of all the Devil Fruits, a Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit is presumed the rarest, topping off even the Logia-type Devil Fruits. Marco was seen wielding the power of a Mythical Zoan beast, the phoenix. With this power, it was presumed that it affected his body capability like those who wield Paramecia-type Devil Fruits rendering him to be able to regenerate quickly from his wounds.
His ultimate technique the "Blue Flames of Resurrection" allows him to recover from any damage he receives in his human form by reverting back to his phoenix form, hybrid phoenix form, or simply summoning those blue flames around his body or wounds.
4. Ope Ope no Mi (Op-Op Fruit)
Ope Ope no Mi or Op-Op Fruit is a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that grants its eater the power to create spherical space or "room", in which the user has complete control over the placement and orientation of the objects inside. Armed with medical skills passed down from his father, Trafalgar Law, the current user of this Devil Fruit, is able to surgically separate a person’s body and removing the hazardous components from their bodies, earning him the nickname “The Surgeon of Death”.
This Devil Fruit is often referred to as the “Ultimate Devil Fruit” as it has the ultimate ability to grant another person eternal youth in exchange for the current eater’s life. The process is named “Perennial Youth Operation”.
3. Hito Hito no Mi, Model Daibutsu(Human-Human Fruit, Model Buddha)
Hito Hito no Mi or Human-Human Fruit Model Daibutsu is another Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit that allows its eater to transform into a hybrid human form of a Buddha Statue (Daibutsu). Fleet Admiral Sengoku is currently wielding this Devil Fruit power. It was seen during the Marineford battle when Sengoku was able to suppress the Blackbeard pirates from burning down Marineford.
Although the full extent of this Devil Fruit’s power is yet to be revealed, it was shown in the Marineford arc that Sengoku’s Devil Fruit was able to deliver considerable amount of damage to Marshall D. Teach who wields the power of Yami Yami no Mi (Dark-Dark Fruit).
2. Yami Yami no Mi (Dark-Dark Fruit)
Yami Yami no Mi or Dark-Dark Fruit is a Logia-type Devil Fruit that allows the eater to transform into the element of darkness. Marshall D. Teach or Kurohige is seen wielding the power of this fruit after he stole it from the Whitebeard Pirates. With this power, Kurohige is able to suck an entire city to nothingness or void.
Another terrifying ability of this Devil Fruit is that the eater is able to suck and nullify other Devil Fruit eater’s ability, rendering them powerless. It was first seen after Shirohige’s death, Marshall D. Teach was able to obtain his powers through an unrevealed reason, making him the only pirate capable of wielding two different devil fruit powers.
1. Gura Gura no Mi (Tremor-Tremor Fruit)
Gura Gura no Mi or Tremor-Tremor Fruit is a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that grants the eater powers to create and control vibrations used to make earthquakes. The fruit was eaten by Edward Newgate (Shirohige), making him by far the strongest pirate crews in the world (Whitebeard pirates). In the battle of Marineford, Fleet Admiral Sengoku revealed that Shirohige holds the power to end the world.
With the power to create shockwaves capable of creating tsunamis and earthquakes, Shirohige demonstrated the extent of his powers when he single handedly destroys the Marineford headquarters and tilting the whole island and the sea around it. The technique was called Shima Yurashi, or “Island Shaking”.
Closing
Although the full mystery behind these Devil Fruits are still yet to be revealed, One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda revealed on SBS that there will be a “certain professor” that will uncover more mysteries behind the Devil Fruits.
