Top 5 Best Drama Anime of 2021

Real drama can be tiring, cause emotional damage—taken from one of the best memes of 2021—and leave you wanting to sleep till the year ends. Thankfully, anime drama isn’t real and while we might get sucked in by seeing our favorite anime characters deal with extreme drama, it’s still more entertaining than anything else. The 2021 anime season had a lot of great drama anime that we knew we had to share with our fellow otaku out there in the world. Here are our Top 5 Best Drama Anime of 2021! Get some tissues ready, the drama is going to hit and it will hit hard!

5. Blue Period

Artists understand better than anyone else about the struggle when trying to find that perfect feeling to get your creative juices pumping. The drama from spending countless hours looking at a blank canvas is a struggle only a handful of individuals will ever truly understand. Enter Blue Period by studio Seven Arcs. Following the tale of a high school student named Yatora Yaguchi, who just discovered his inner drive to go down the artist path in life. Journey alongside Yatora as he tries to make those around him understand his new endeavors and fight to prove he has the talent to be considered for a scholarship into Tokyo’s most elite art school. Blue Period is a non-stop drama/slice of life anime that was one of the sleeper hits of the 2021 anime season!

4. 86

War can’t always be defined as various factions going into battle to see which one comes out alive. A war goes deeper than that when people struggle to survive, facing their fears, facing their internal battles, and facing another person with the same drive as them. That’s what makes 86 such an incredible anime, this isn’t just another mecha or war series with high-octane action and animation. 86 dives into the pains of a war that has young men and women thrust into battles that the public is unaware of. What makes 86 even more enticing is you will find your heart emotionally drained with every passing episode as you witness a battle that isn’t just about people losing their lives but also about people losing their spirits…

3. Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu 2nd Season Part 2 (Re:Zero –Starting Life in Another World- Season 2 Part 2)

Re:Zero Season 2 Part 2 took what was an already emotional train ride and became an emotional spaceship launch. Subaru and Emilia have the hardest struggles in this second part as we learn the damage caused by Emilia’s past and how she now needs to not only confront it to save her own life but the entire community within the Sanctuary. Meanwhile, Subaru must act as Emilia’s knight unable to step in as easily as he’s done before. This time, Subaru must trust his instincts that Emilia can make it through her own battle and that is going to be a challenge neither of them is ready for. Re:Zero Season 2 Part 2 was one of the most dramatic anime to release last year and we lost count of how many times we were left speechless after an episode finished.

2. Tokyo Revengers

As an adult, Takemichi Hanagaki is barely making ends meet as he works at a dead-end job and resides in an apartment consumed by filth. Maybe that is what makes his tale so relatable, even when Takemichi gains the uncanny ability to travel back in time to his youth and change key moments in his past, he alters the course of his future as well as those around him. Tokyo Revengers is 24 episodes of pure drama as you watch our young crybaby fight his way through his past and present self to somehow save not only his past lover but several of his friends and their comrades. It might seem like an impossible battle for a young man to win but just watch Tokyo Revengers and see how to overcome these struggles even when the odds are stacked against you!

1. Fruits Basket: The Final

Tohru Honda has grown to love the Souma family—despite their strange curse—and has even found a soulmate, Kyo Souma. Although, whenever a curse is involved in a love story, you know there is bound to be some drama impeding a simple happy ending for anyone involved. The final season of the remade Fruits Basket pushes our fellow couples to their limits as they break the powerful zodiac curse plaguing the Souma family. If you somehow missed Fruits Basket: The Final in 2021, you need to get behind your PC or Smart TV and begin binging it right this minute! Trust us, there is enough drama here to last you for several decades…maybe as long as the Souma curse lasted for our main characters!?

Hey everyone I’m Aaron Curbelo or Blade as I’m called by my YouTube Subscribers. I’ve been an anime/manga fan since I was a young kid. In terms of anime I have watched nearly a thousand shows and have read hundreds of manga series. I love writing and honestly was so happy to join Honey’s Anime to get a shot to write articles for such a wonderful site. I’m a firm believer in respect in the anime community being the most important embodiment we should all have. We all love anime and we have varying opinions of series but we should respect one another for those differences! Life is too precious to spend it making needless arguments in a community that should be the shining example of loving an amazing medium. I hope as a writer for Honey’s Anime I can bring you folks some amazing articles to read and enjoy!
