The winter 2021 anime season had plenty of laugh-inducing anime and we couldn’t wait to share some of our favorites with you readers out there. So when you’re done dealing with the emotional drama brought on by the amazing Wonder Egg Priority series and need some laughs, join us by watching our favorite comedies of winter 2021!

5. SK∞ (SK8 the Infinity)

When it comes to skateboarding, Reki Kyan is more than just a fan he’s a hardcore skater. Even with the dangers of the illegal mine course he participates in, Reki wants to obtain a dream to be the best skateboarder ever. However, the battle to accomplish that dream comes to hard stop when Reki gets hurt and loses his skateboard. Now recovering, Reki meets a young snowboarder named Langa Hasegawa who despite his lack of skateboarding talent, might be the means to giving Reki a shot once more at his dream. The two are about to become beyond friends and their road to the top will soon begin in SK8 the Infinity!

Sports anime tend to be more serious than silly but SK8 the Infinity is okay breaking the trend a bit with some good old-fashioned comedy. When the series isn’t focusing on intense skateboarding battles, Reki and Langa can be seen goofing off as they talk to their friends/opponents and endure random moments of hilarity. SK8 the Infinity made us crack up with some great comedic timing and is a solid comedy anime when the sports are replaced with slice of life themes!

4. Tatoeba Last Dungeon Mae no Mura no Shounen ga Joban no Machi de Kurasu Youna Monogatari (Suppose a Kid from the Last Dungeon Boonies moved to a starter Dungeon)

Lloyd Belladonna feels like he is the weakest link in comparison to those in Kunlun. Considered the last dungeon, Kunlun is filled to the brim with strong enemies and threats that test the residents and those who dare travel to the village. Despite his own thoughts, Lloyd still dreams of becoming a soldier and with fear he will fail still lingering in his heart, Lloyd heads to Azami Kingdom to enroll in their famous school. Lloyd might feel he’s a weakling, but compared to others who have easier village lives, Lloyd is about to prove he might be a necessary asset to saving the world from the impending threat around the horizon!

Imagine if you played a JRPG and started from the final dungeon and worked your way back to the first. The sheer simplicity would be comical and that is equally why Suppose a Kid from the Last Dungeon Boonies moved to a starter town just makes us laugh constantly. Watching Llyod unleash his “weak” abilities and obliterating enemies is never not amusing and changes the fantasy theme we’re so accustomed to in anime. Dungeon Boonies is a hilarious anime that will make RPG fans laugh non-stop and should be given a watch as soon as possible!

3. Tenchi Souzou Design-bu (Heaven’s Design Team)

Many probably imagine God and his various subjects as strict rule-enforcing entities but if Heaven’s Design Team teaches us anything, it might be that they are a bunch of silly-minded beings with overly creative ideas.Following a team focused on creating new animals and life for God’s creation, Heaven’s Design Team totes the mindset that not every stroke of genius should be created. This hilarious series made us smile and laugh with a slew of goofy characters and some perfectly timed gags/jokes such as when the team thinks they have made a masterpiece of a creation to only realize it's quite...horrible. Heaven’s Design Team is a sure-fire way to get you laughing if you’re feeling a bit down and we can’t recommend it enough! Plus, this series is barely being mentioned in the anime community which is a true shame...

2. Kumo Desu ga, Nani ka? (So I’m a Spider, So What?)

Despite the scary thought of being reincarnated as a spider, So I’m a Spider, So What? has given us tons of laughter and excitement this winter 2021 season. Watching our main girl…spider…Kumoko come to grips with her new form is pretty hilarious and the hijinks that ensue are equally pretty silly. There’s a ton of adventure elements in So I’m a Spider, So What? to also enjoy but the comedy of watching a spider witness spider cannibalism or watching a small dragon—who was once a pretty girl—be laughed at due to her attempt at sex appeal is just too funny! So I’m a Spider, So What? is a great comedy anime for those that need a break from more serious isekai like Re: Zero.

1. Horimiya

Romance can be quite scary and dealing with school can be even more frightening! Horimiya, thankfully, makes romance—and its challenges—a bit more comical as we watch various couples dance the strange world of love. Horimiya really surprised us by not being extremely focused on the romance genre and blending in a lot of silliness that kept the romance there but in a less serious form. Couples who shouldn’t work on paper end up falling for one another—such as the titular main characters Izumi Miyamura and Kyouko Hori—and observing their trials and tribulations as a couple just makes us crack up! Horimiya focuses on the oddness of high school relationships and we have to wonder how many romances in the real world are as comical as the ones in Horimiya…
