Now that we are in September, while you may be liking your summer anime, the reality is that they are about to end. That’s why it makes sense to look forward to what is to come. Sure, Overlord is great as is Isekai Maou, but with only a few episodes left, they will fade as the new ones come into play and start broadcasting. So, that’s why today we are introducing two new shows for those who call themselves Isekai fans. Note: We didn’t include Sword Art Online here due to the fact that many, many fans know that it is coming. This is to look more at the other shows to expect.
Conception: Ore no Kodomo wo Undekure!
- Genres: Fantasy, Game, Harem, Magic, Adventure
- Studio: GONZO
First up is a game adapted into an anime. Conception follows the story of Itsuki Yuge, a normal high schooler who is summoned to a new world. Here, monsters known as Kegare menace the world. They can only be defeated by the power of union between Itsuki and 12 girls who are miko. Together, they will be able to banish these Kegare and bring rest back to their fantasy world.
Ahh, the good ole Isekai setup. A high schooler ends up in a new world where not only does magic live and breathe, but it happens to be a harem anime as well! If things could not get better, his childhood friend is also summoned and is a representation of one of the twelve constellations that he needs to make a bond with. We obviously cannot get too far into the nitty gritty, but the series was originally released on the PSP before getting a sequel years later for the 3DS. Interested? It only gets better as Shinichirou Ootsuka is the one who created all of he conception art for the anime. Thus, the characters all look like they have just walked out of Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu! Catch the PV for the series below!
Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken
- Genres: Fantasy, Isekai
- Studio: 8-Bit
Usually when one thinks of Isekai, you think of some average person gaining immense power in this new world or game where they can do just about anything. This usually leads to generic, overpowered protagonists who sadly fail the test of time rather quickly. However, this time, the cogs of fate don’t start moving in the direction that our protagonist Satoru Mikami wants. He does get sent suddenly to another world one day, but it turns out that in this new world, he is one of the weakest monsters around, a slime. He literally has turned into a slime. A chance encounter though gives Satoru—now Rimuru—the power to copy the abilities of his opponents meaning that he can do just about anything he sets his mind to!
Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken has been floating around the Japanese region of the internet now for about two years. Netizens have praised the novel for it’s storytelling and characterization. Just from the bio above, the series feels as if we are going to get something similar to beloved isekai anime Log Horizon which is always a good thing. It also does give us a similarly fresher take on isekai where the main character isn’t some good-looking dude surrounded by girls who fawn over him, but rather, he becomes an indistinguishable slime. Thus this makes him have to work doubly as hard to get noticed and befriend those around him. This is definitely one for fans burnt out after the trainwreck that was the Blesser of Enjerhar anime from summer.
These are two of the three isekai anime that are coming out Fall 2018, but these are the two new ones, with the third being SAO: Alicization Arc, coming out that each have a unique promise in both of them. One has familiar art while the other has a rarer take on Isekai. Conception is definitely comfort food in anime while Slime is more for a new adventure to take us somewhere we might not have gone before. Of course, we wish there were more to choose from, but there can only be so many a season. We wouldn’t want like 12! The stories would get mixed up easily and fall by the wayside fast. What are your thoughts? Are you going to watch these two shows? Be sure to let us know what you are cheering for down below. Till Next time!
