3 Fall 2018 Sports Anime We’re Enjoying

Hello, anime fans! The Fall 2018 season is well underway, and we’ve got a few anime we’re enjoying so far. There’s something about watching anime that is so gratifying. Sports anime have their own rewards that make them surprisingly really good from Summer 2017’s Ballroom e Youkoso to last season’s Harukana Receive and Banebado! This season, we’ve got a few we have to recommend. Hang tight; today we are discussing Sports Anime airing this Fall 2018 that we’re just loving.

3. Tsurune: Kazemai Koukou Kyuudoubu

  • Episodes: TBA
  • Aired: October 2018 - Ongoing

Tsurune: Kazemai Koukou Kyuudoubu is one of the sports anime that was late to air this season, but that doesn’t detract from how much we’re enjoying it. With only 3 episodes out this season, it’s still been great with the amount of adolescent drama and relationships between characters that we’ve seen. It’s comparable to sports anime like Dive!! and Free! except we get to take a glimpse into the world of Japanese archery, kyudo, which we have seen in anime and manga, but don’t really get to dive into.

2. Hinomaruzumou (Hinomaru Sumo)

  • Episodes: 24
  • Aired: October 2018 - Ongoing

If you love shounen sports anime like Ballroom e Youkoso and Kuroko no Basuke, take a look at this season’s Hinomaruzumou. Much like Tsurune, we get to take a look at a different Japanese sport that isn’t ever discussed even though we are well aware it exists, sumo. Being the national sport of Japan, how much do we really know about it? Well, join Ushio on his quest to beat the odds in sumo despite his short stature. It’s all about the sport of sumo and aiming for something higher than the lot you’re given in life in Hinomaruzumou, and it’s a hell of a time.

1. Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru (Run With The Wind)

  • Episodes: 24
  • Aired: October 2018 - Ongoing

Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru takes a look at the sport of running, and we’re not just talking track. Our ragtag bunch of random college men are brought together to run the Hakone Ekiden marathon, which is a gruesome marathon. While Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru does have a lot of inspirational sporty moments, we also have a lot boy love-ish moments to give us a mix much like the likes of Tsurune. Whether you love boys love or the sport of running, or maybe not, you might find yourself still liking this anime thanks to the comedic interactions between characters above it all.

Final Thoughts

Surprisingly enough, we’re enjoying the sports anime this season. They’ve given us some fun scenes of camaraderie and drama, as well as that oh so satisfying BL but not BL goodness. If you love sports anime as we do, please tell us your thoughts. Are you watching the sports anime this Fall 2018? Or maybe it’s a bit too much for you.
