Now that the kids are gone… welcome to the anime side of otome games! We girls sometimes like to fantasize about how we would handle various guys who are willing to win our hearts. Diabolik lovers did a good job at combining the reverse harem genre with a dark and sometimes downright scary story, surrounded by mystery. There was a second season and an OVA in 2015… and even a stage play! The anime was based on an otome game that has had 6 releases so far, the last one in February of this year. So yes, the 6 handsome Sakamaki brothers are here to stay. However, if you were left with plenty of space for more reverse harem, or if you like your stories with handsome guys and some mystery, let’s try to find some of the best manga like Diabolik Lovers. Shall we, my lady?

Similar Anime to Diabolik Lovers

1. Shiki

  • Episodes: 22
  • Aired: Jul 9, 2010 to Dec 31, 2010

If what you like about Diabolik Lovers is precisely the vampires and the horror, we have superlative quantities of that in Shiki. The story centers on a village in the woods where mysterious deaths start to happen. A doctor from a hospital teams up with a student to solve the mystery, but will they survive the attack of the creepy creatures that are awakening? We are not going to tell 😉

Part of the attractiveness of Diabolik Lovers is that, despite the gothic environment, the story is rooted in the present day. Shiki also has this same style. Sometimes, we can get lost in the darkness and not be sure of the time period we are living. Others, it is plain simple that it could be in this decade, just like in Diabolik Lovers. However, none of this distracts us from the central mysteries that we really want to solve before we are, em… bitten by the vampires. Shiki has the additional attractiveness of being long, so, if you are into suspense and horror, you might want to check this anime.

2. Kuro to Kin no Akanai Kagi

  • Episodes: 2
  • Aired: Feb 28, 2013 to May 30, 2013

What happens when you are a hikikomori with a lot of imagination? Well, maybe we can ask Kanade Katagiri about that. One day, she has a strange dream of a guy she can not see clearly. After that, Kanade decides to venture outside, where several handsome guys will be waiting to interact with her.

A protagonist who is rather insecure and passive? Um, yes. Many guys with different personalities from which to chose? Of course. A mystery? Yes! The main difference between Diabolik Lovers and Kuro to Kin no Akanai Kagi is that we have an almost completely normal setting in the later case. Also, Kanade’s imagination gets way out of hand sometimes… if you know what I mean 😉 We have some ecchi thrown here and there, while the guys try to “seduce” Kanade. So, if the sexyness of Diabolik Lovers is what makes the show to you, don’t miss out Kuro to Kin no Akanai Kagi, which has the extra advantage of being short.

3. Dance with Devils

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: Oct 7, 2015 to Dec 23, 2015

Ritsuka Tachibana receives a very special heirloom from her mother and leaves for school. Little does she know, it will be the last Ritsuka will see from her family and that she will be the object of a heated war between night creatures. Rem Kaginuki, the leader of the Student Council of her school and his friends will be in charge of... protecting her? Seducing her? Maybe both :p

Perhaps Dance with Devils is the most similar anime to Diabolik Lovers in the recent years. We have a normal girl going to school who suddenly is identified as a pEdson with something valuable, of great power. There is a mystery behind her origins… and many handsome guys competing for her attention! The main difference is that Dance with Devils is about, well… devils instead of vampires. Also, the musical numbers and the use of music to fight was an original master stroke in this anime. So, if you wonder how Diabolik Lovers would have turned out as a stage play but couldn’t watch it, you can always look for Dance with Devils.

4. Norn 9: Norn+Nonet

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: Jan 7, 2016 to Mar 31, 2016

Imagine you are a solitary girl who dreams of having an adventure and real friends one day. When that day comes, you discover you have other two girl companions and several guy friends. Some of them are even romantically interested in you! Em, but what will you do to be able to control your powers and find out your mission and place in the world? Maybe there is a traitor among your new friends? How to find out who is loyal and who is not? Whom to trust?

This is the story of Koharu and the Norn ship in a not so distant future. Koharu, although powerful, lacks confidence and has to learn how to interact with his new friends, just like Yui from Diabolik Lovers. And yes, we also have a great variety of handsome guys in this story. Although the tone is more lighthearted, we have a mystery to solve as well! The main difference between the two stories is that Norn9 has three female protagonists with three love interests each. Their stories intertwine and are presented under several points of view, which makes for an interesting viewing experience. So, if you like science fiction and adventure in your harem anime, you can take a look at Norn9!

5. Ozmafia!!

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: Jul 7, 2016 to Sep 22, 2016

Ok, so perhaps you are more into watching cute boys doing cute things but all that weighty darkness and horror in Diabolik Lovers scares you away. In that case, how about an anime inspired by an otome game that, in turn, was inspired by fairy tales? Ozmafia!! tells us the story of a girl called Fuuka who travels through a world where handsome guys inspired in the Wizard of Oz books, the Grimm tales and others exist. They fight for Fuuka’s attention and the privilege of her companionship in an adventure to find her forgotten memories.

The adaptation to anime of Ozmafia!! is even cuter than that, because we get all the male protagonists in chibi form interacting in school. However, that does not leave the otome vibes outside, as at the end of every chapter, one of the characters appears in full handsome form to interact with you, the viewer. Yes, there's no Fuuka in the anime, instead, you take on the role! Ozmafia!! looks like the least similar anime to Diabolik Lovers at first sight, but when you check the anime format (relatively short), the episodic form, the close ups to the characters and the way they talk to the viewer, we notice a pattern here...

6. Kenka Banchou Otome: Girl Beats Boys

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: Apr 12, 2017 to present

Finally, we have this recent anime that gives us the story of Hinako Nakayama, a girl who has lived in several orphanages. When her brother finds her and convinces her to go to the school in his place, she hides her female identity. So, can our protagonist win the respect of her classmates while she falls in love and deals with an all men school? We are not going to tell you 😉

Although there is not much mystery in Girl Beats Boys, the premise of a protagonist surrounded by handsome guys with distinctive personalities is also here. A sense of danger is present, although it comes from not being discovered as a girl. Hinako also has a mysterious past, pretty much as Yui from Diabolik Lovers. The main difference is that Hinako is a highly skilled girl who knows how to kick an ass, in contrast with Yui. So, if you wanted a more active protagonist in Diabolik Lovers, maybe you should check Girl Beats Boys.

Final thoughts

Reverse harem has had an increasing popularity in recent years. Especially thanks to otome games, we are getting more anime with handsome guys. Although we can also see that chapters tend to be less numerous and also shorter, we have an interesting variety among anime like Diabolik Lovers. Tell us, which other similar anime have you watched? We have more examples in former articles for you to look! Remember that we are open to all your comments and suggestions. See you soon!

Being it an update of the previously published 6 Anime Like Diabolik Lovers, you will find the original right beneath this one. Be sure to check it out, too!

To be surrounded by each vampire more beautiful than the last can be an experience full of pleasure, yes, but on the other hand, it can turn out to be scary and very strange things can happen to you. Yui Komori, sent by her father to live in the Sakamaki mansion, learned it first hand. The six Sakamaki brothers are vampires and, at first, confused by Yui's sudden appearance. Only later on they realize one important thing about poor, little Yui: she was sent there to be the new “sacrificial bride”, and one by one the six brothers vows to make Yui his own.

Diabolik Lovers, like every other reverse-harem anime, has a cute protagonist put in a situation where she has to confront with beautiful boys and their trouble, and problems. Not your cup of tea if you expect a cute love story, but reverse-harem anime are enjoyable enough thanks to a big range of amazing characters, funny and embarrassing situations, some spicy scenes and a heroine who doesn't really know how to act with the new setting she is put in. Well, if you enjoyed Diabolik Lovers, we are sure you will like these six reverse-harem anime we are going to recommend you! So please, read on to discover six other anime that share with Diabolik Lovers hot guys and nice plots!

Similar Anime to Diabolik Lovers

1. Amnesia

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: January 2013 – March 2013

Amnesia is a reverse-harem anime revolving around a young lady whose name is unknown. After fainting, this girl wakes up in the back room of a maid cafe she works in, with no memory about her past, and without even recalling her own name. After two of her friends – Toma and Shin – walk her home, she meets a spectral boy, whose name is Orion. Orion apologizes to her, and explain that she lost her memory because of him, and swear to help her regain it. While struggling to understand what went wrong, and how to regain her memory, Heroine keeps fainting and each time she wakes up in a parallel world where her life goes differently each time. Her journey to discover why starts from there!

Diabolik Lovers and Amnesia are both reverse-harem anime, and an adaption of otome games. The main female characters share the confusion and the fear of being put in a situation they don't clearly understand, surrounded by beautiful boys who pursue them. Both girls are shy, and quiet and sometimes really naive. As for the male characters, they have various personality types and struggle to be noticed by the heroine. For example Ayato Sakamaki – the third brother in Diabolik Lovers – is very similar to Ikki in Amnesia; both are very narcissistic and full of self-esteem. Even though the plots differ, viewers can find in Amnesia almost the same situations, and a similar character design. We think that fans of Diabolik Lovers are guaranteed to like Amnesia as well!

2. Vampire Knight

  • Episodes: 13
  • Aired: April 2008 – July 2008

Yuuki Cross and Zero Kiryuu are prefects of the Cross Academy, which is a boarding school separated in Day Class, and Night Class. Yuuki and Zero's duty is to maintain the order as the classes rotate in the evenings. The only problem is that Night Class elites are beautiful vampires, so the task can prove very hard. Yet, Yuuki and Zero have to do their best and protect that secret from morning students. Yuuki has a crush on Kaname Kuran, the president of the night students' dorm, and she happily does her job as a guardian, being able to interact with him. On the other hand, Zero has a hidden crush on Yuuki and hates vampires with all his strength. Zero being her best friend, and Kaname a vampire she has a crush on, how will things evolve for Yuuki? That's how Yuuki's struggles begin, and how she will discover the biggest secret about her own life!

Okay, Vampire Knight may not be a fully reverse-harem anime, as the characters that pursue the main female character aren't always so well inclined towards her, but still it shares with Diabolik Lovers a bunch of vampires obsessed with a girl. Both the female main characters, Yuuki and Yui, are somehow naive and find themselves in the position of doing nothing but being quiet and obey. Both these shows have a school setting, and a dark and Gothic theme. In Diabolik Lovers and Vampire Knight the main theme of drinking blood from the heroine is a repeating thing, and just how the six Sakamaki brothers fight over Yui, Kaname and Zero fight over Yuuki. Although the romance trait is obviously stronger in Vampire Knight, both show are enjoyable because of the feelings that slowly the various characters develop towards the heroine. If you like vampires and romance, both these shows are bound to satisfy you, as they share the same vibes all along.

3. Brothers Conflict

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: July 2013 – September 2013

Ema Hinata was an only child who, suddenly, found herself surrounded by thirteen – yes, thirteen – step-brothers. It happens one day, when Ema's single father falls in love and then marries Miwa Asahina, and Ema feels the need to make room for the newly-wed couple. So she moves into the so-called Sunrise Residence, and starts living with her new step-brothers. While living with her new brothers, Ema realizes how wonderful it is to live in a big family, surrounded by love and affection. As time passes by, though, she suddenly realizes that it's not exactly fraternal love what's growing among her and her step-brothers. That's how Ema's love troubles begin!

As for the similarities that Brothers Conflict and Diabolik Lovers share, we can start saying that both are reverse-harem shows. In both these anime, there's the heroine who is forced by her father into a situation where she is surrounded by beautiful boys. The male characters, in both shows, have a big range of personality types, and rival each other to obtain the attention of the heroine. What makes these shows so similar, though, is the fact that they're both about brothers going all after just one girl, causing fights, and conflicts in the family. The characters are similar, and we can find triplets in both. Ema, exactly like Yui from Diabolik Lovers, is your typical shy and timid character, who doesn't actually know how to deal with the new environment, and so she goes with the flow of events. What's left to say? If you enjoyed Diabolik Lovers, just know that Brothers Conflict is its counterpart, with human characters instead of vampires!

4. Dance with Devils

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: October 2015 – December 2015

Dance with Devils revolves around Ritsuka Tachibana, who has always been a good student. One day, with her big surprise, she is summoned by the student council and accused to be a troublemaker. However, her life take a turn for the worse when her mother gets kidnapped and she discovers a world of vampires and devils. The only ray of hope is her brother, Lindo, who returns from overseas and yet seems to hide something from her. When she finds out that both vampires and devils are after a “Grimoire” – an item allowing its owner to rule the world – and with her brother hiding something from her, she is desperate to know if there's someone out there she can really rely on, or trust. That's how Ritsuka's journey in a world filled with secrets begins!

Diabolik Lovers and Dance with Devils have a lot in common. For starters, they both are reverse-harem anime adaptation from otome games. While in one the heroine deals with vampires, in the other one the heroine deals with demons. In both shows we find a girl and five guys surrounding her. These five guys have different personalities, but share a sadistic trait. What's more, they start to deal with the heroine just for their own personal profit, but start to have real feelings towards her. Ritsuka is very similar to Yui; she doesn't know what to do, who to believe in, nor how to move in the new setting. Well, it's exactly your perfect reverse-harem universe, where handsome guys turn out to fight one against each other to gain the heroine's attention. It's not a stretch, if you liked Diabolik Lovers, you will find Dance with Devils just as good, with the main difference being the presence of demons instead of vampires.

5. Kamigami no Asobi

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: April 2014 – June 2014

Yui Kusanagi is a high school girl who, one day, wakes up in a strange, yet beautiful school, in a wonderful place she cannot recognize. After going around searching for a clue, she is suddenly summoned by Zeus. Zeus explains Yui the situation, and her reason for being there. The one she is in, is a fake school where there are only few real students who are gods. Since six of them don't know what love is, and act selfishly, or have regrets about their past, Yui's task is to teach them what love means. That's how little Yui's adventure starts, surrounded by beautiful gods who will be taught by her, and will teach her what even she didn't know about love!

Kamigami no Asobi and Diabolik Lovers are both two reverse-harem anime, involving a main female protagonist named “Yui”. Both Yui and Yui have to deal with guys who put them a lot of pressure, and since they're all so different from each other, in both these shows it's up to Yui to act differently according to the person she has in front of her. Even though Kamigami no Asobi is more on the drama side, it's clear as daylight how the two female characters have a lot in common, having to complete a task visually almost impossible for them. Both Yui and Yui are almost trapped into a specific place, and forced to complete their task. As for the male characters, aside the fact that they are all handsome and attractive, both in Diabolik Lovers and Kamigami no Asobi they start to fight with each other, and compete over the heroine who, on the other side, doesn't really know what to do and doesn't move towards someone specific. Both Yui and Yui have to deal with superhuman guys who act like brats, even if one Yui deals with gods, and one deals with vampires. If you liked Diabolik Lovers, but need something that is similar but without the horror trait, then Kamigami no Asobi is just what you're looking for!

6. Hakuoki ~Demon of the Fleeting Blossom~

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: April 2010 – June 2010

It's 1860 and Chizuru Yukimura lives in Edo with her father, who is a doctor. When work takes him away from her and in Kyoto, they exchange letters. Suddenly, letters stop coming though, and Chizuru becomes overly worried. So she disguises herself as a man and leaves for Kyoto. Once in Kyoto, she gets attacked by a bunch of samurai and a seemingly inhuman man. She is saved by a member of the Shinsengumi, only to be taken to their base, be interrogated and then, possibly, killed. Luckily, though, even Shinsengumi members are looking for her father, so they all together will start cooperating, and Chizuru will come to bond with the Shinsengumi guys, coming to understand what love and friendship are.

Even Hakuoki, same as Diabolik Lovers, is an anime adaptation from one of the most popular otome game. So obviously, it turned out to be a reverse-harem anime, just like Diabolik Lovers. Chizuru, same as Yui, is frightened; she finds herself almost killed by the Shinsengumi members, in a new setting that she doesn't know how to deal with. Exactly like Yui, she is shy, frail and suddenly surrounded by beautiful men. Shinsengumi members, same as the Sakamaki brothers in Diabolik Lovers, have different personalities, and each of them has his own way to interact with Chizuru. If Diabolik Lovers is about vampires, even in Hakuoki we can find a similar theme. In fact, Shinsengumi members obtain a power that turn them into creatures very similar to vampires, and guess what? They will need our heroine's blood! What else can we say? If you enjoyed Diabolik Lovers and crave for more, next step can be Hakuoki! You won't be disappointed.

Final Thoughts

And so Hakuoki puts an end to our list. What do you think? We tried to put in it all the reverse-harem anime, or shoujo anime that share with Diabolik Lovers the most important traits; beautiful guys pursuing a frail heroine who doesn't know what to do. We really do think that if Diabolik Lovers was your cup of tea, these other six anime will be just as satisfying. We know there are a lot of other anime that are very similar to Diabolik Lovers, so if you have any recommendation, please don't hesitate to comment below!

Bloodsucking vampires, a secret past, physical and mental abuse - Diabolik Lovers seems to have it all. With its twisted story and beautiful character design it has gained a big fanbase in a short amount of time and is now awaiting a second season.

Viewers follow heroine Yui who is locked up in an old mansion together with six good-looking yet dangerous vampires. With each episode her fear for her life increases as she starts to understand the real reason why she was sent to their home.

For everyone who cannot wait for the second season of Diabolik Lover here is a compilation of six anime to help you satisfy your thirst for more. Enjoy!

Similar Anime to Diabolik Lovers

1. Brothers Conflict

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: July 2013 – September 2013

Brothers Conflict is one of the most successful Reverse Harem anime of the last few seasons. This time, it's not 6 but 13 brothers fighting for the attention of one girl.

Ema is moving in with her new family after her father decided to remarry. What she didn't expect was that her new step-brothers slowly start evolving feelings for her, one after the other. Together with her pet squirrel Juli she needs to find out whether what she feels is only affection between siblings or maybe something more.

The fact that 13 brothers all fall in love with their stepsister might be too unrealistic for some of you, but don't let this fact scare you off. This anime will give you the same feeling of butterflies in your stomach without the dark touch of Diabolik Lovers.

2. Vampire Knight

  • Episodes: 13
  • Aired: April 2008 – July 2008

If you prefer stronger female leads then Vampire Knight should be on your to-watch list. Yuki Cross grows up at Cross Academy, a school divided into Day Class and Night Class. Together with Light Kiryu she has to protect the secret of the Night Class: all the students are vampires and part of a project that tries to create peace between the two worlds.

While humans and vampires don't want to interact with each other, Yuki is torn between the two sides. Ultimately, she also has to choose between the two guys that are most important to her - her caring friend Light and the mysterious vampire Kaname.

Vampire fans are definitely not missing out. The bloodsuckers in this anime are at least as scary yet appealing as the boys from Diabolik Lovers. For people who cannot get enough there's also the second season Vampire Knight: Guilty.

3. Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge (The Wallflower)

  • Episodes: 25
  • Aired: October 2006 – March 2007

Viewers that didn't like the horror and blood of Diabolik Lovers might want to check out Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge. Four popular and good-looking guys make a bet with their landlady: If they succeed in turning her niece into a lady they are allowed to live rent-free. However, if they fail she will triple their rent.

Easier said than done. Sunako Nakahara is a social outcast that hides her face behind long bangs and loves everything dark and obscure. She hates bright things and does not think about changing her lifestyle. The boys struggle to find out more about Sunako's past while simultaneously turning her into a lady to win their bet.

While the idea of one girl moving into a mansion with a group of guys might sound similar, the style is completely different from Diabolik Lovers. Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge will leave you dying of laughter. It's light-hearted and you can enjoy watching the beautiful boys without being afraid of one of them turning into a bloodsucking monster.

Any Animes Like Diabolik Lovers?

4. Amnesia

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: January 2013 – March 2013

Moving on to a mystery anime, Amnesia is definitely a must-watch even if you're not a friend of Reverse Harem anime. The nameless heroine wakes up one day and finds herself without any memory of what happened before August 1st. Not only that, but she has to relive the same time period again and again, each time with a different past. On top of that, a mythical creature that introduces himself as Orion appears and becomes her new companion.

Like in Diabolik Lovers, suspense is created through a mystery or rather a secret that is not revealed until the last episodes. The main heroes are similarly mysterious and one can never be sure of who's a friend and who's an enemy. The character design is a true eye-candy as well and reason enough to start watching Amnesia.

5. Hiiro no Kakera (The Tamayori Princess Saga)

  • Episodes: 13
  • Aired: April 2012 – June 2012

Next in line is Hiiro no Kakera, a fantasy anime based on an otome game. Tamaki Kasuga is sent to the countryside to live with her grandmother at a temple. As soon as she arrives at her new life she's attacked by monsters and only saved at the last minute by the boy Takuma Onizaki. As it turns out, Tamaki has to succeed her grandmother as the Tamayori princess.

The heroine is as lost and seemingly powerless as Yui in Diabolik Lovers. Luckily, a group of guys that act as her guardians are always nearby and ready to save her from any danger. While the romance might not be as obvious as in Diabolik Lovers, there is definitely a chemistry between Tamaki and the boys.

Those of you that were turned off by the cold atmosphere of Diabolik Lovers and want to see a friendship develop should enjoy this anime. If you are also into action packed fighting scenes, then Hiiro no Kakera is definitely worth a try.

6. Hakuouki

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: April 2010 – June 2010

Lastly, we present you Hakuouki, a historical anime with lots of twists and turns. The story follows Chizuru Yukimura who travels to ancient Kyoto disguised as a boy in order to find her missing father. She gets caught by the Shinsengumi and is forced to live and work at their headquarters.

Hakuouki might not have vampires, but it does have samurais going berserk. The story is entertaining yet informative and the characters will slowly make their way into your heart. It is set in Kyoto during the Edo period and revolves around real-life events.
A must-watch for fans of ancient Japan!

Let me give you a small piece of advice before watching: Hakuouki will take you on an emotional rolleroaster, so keep your tissues nearby.

This list presents you anime from almost all genres, from comedy to mystery or action. There should be something for everyone, even if you're not a fan of Reverse Harem or Romance.

Other anime that might be worth checking out are Kamigami no Asobi or Uta no Prince-sama. Which one is your favorite Reverse Harem and which boy did you root for? Let us know in the comment section below!
