Cars, the light bulb, and the Internet are some of the greatest inventions of our time. It’s difficult to imagine what device and concept an intelligent individual could manufacture next. Well, until recently. Ueno-san is a riot and a genius rolled into one. Who else can come up with a filter for ‘scented liquid’ or a gadget that makes your nether regions impervious to a Peeping Tom? As president of the Science Club, it’s her job to get the mind of her club members going and her brazen attitude kickstarts ideas and concepts.
Mixing in a little of this and that, we keep our heads cool like Tanaka-kun and read on. We are now at Honey’s 6 anime like Ueno-san wa Kukiyou including such shows that feature silly and bizarre antics, the goings-on at school clubs, and a whole lot of zany. Hopefully, these series fall right on your watch list! Let’s observe and take notes!

3. Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunousen (Kaguya-sama: Love is War)
- Episodes: 12

Miyuki Shirogane and Kaguya Shinomiya are part of the student body at the prestigious Shuchiin Academy. President Miyuki and Vice President Kaguya are the top students in the country. They are the envy of their peers and praised by their mentors. They excel in just about every subject, the embodiment of a perfect pair. Even though they know they like each other, neither is willing to admit it to the other. In constant competition mode, Miyuki and Kaguya believe that confessing is a sign of coming in second, and that is unacceptable. Determined to remain at the top, the two are facing love on the battlefield.
Love is War and Ueno-san are both entertaining anime with compelling characters complementing the story. It’s really hard to turn away as each ending leaves you hankering for more. Don’t hate the player, hate the game, or is it don’t hate the game, hate the player? However that statement goes, Love is War and Ueno-san take the love out of romance and use the emotion as a conquest prize. Nevertheless, it is silly, offering a different concept to the rom-com genre.

Although he tolerates Yoshiko’s ways, Akuru Akutsu tries to whip her back to reality. Unfortunately, she devolves back to her normalcy; Yoshiko, the Zero Hero manages to bring anyone and everyone around her along for the ride.
Aho Girl and Ueno-san are alike in many ways, from their hair and energetic personalities to chasing a guy that is completely the opposite of them. Both of these anime are super silly, exaggerating romance in a school setting.

5. Ore no Nounai Sentakushi ga, Gakuen Love Comedy wo Zenryoku de Jama Shiteiru (My Mental Choices Are Completely Interfering With My School Romantic Comedy)
- Episodes: 10
- Aired: October 2013 – December 2013
The story of Mental Choices involves Kanade Amakusa, who is doomed to carry a little something called the “Absolute Choice” curse. Essentially, Kanade is constantly faced with several decisions to make, and of course, with each choice follows the consequence. Unfortunately, these selection events seem to happen in most public settings, worsening his already unpopular reputation. If that wasn’t enough, on one random day, a girl falls out of the sky into Kanade’s path, sent to lift his curse; albeit, heightening his already complex situation. To sum it up, Mental Choices is a lively and hectic anime. It is comparable to Ueno-san because of the outlandish events that occur throughout each episode. The characters are also acknowledgeable because their personalities really make the story. Lastly, we cannot forget about the fan service!

6. Tsurezure Children

- Aired: July 2017 – September 2017
Tsurezure Children highlights the romantic experiences of several fascinating high school students with some of them possessing the potential of forming into couples. Exposing the delicate nature of puppy love, we suffer and celebrate with these guys and gals as they learn about crushes, love, heartache, and acceptance. In this anime, we discover our characters’ trials through various situations with every step along the way a sweetening affair.
Although they are different in theme, Tsurezure Children and Ueno-san approach the ‘teenage dream’ in different ways. They share the story of student life and romance through the SOL and comedy genres. Overall, they are both relatable, but Ueno-san takes it up a notch.
