Momo Minamoto has an undying love for her city and wishes to protect it like her father once did. After a chance encounter, Momo gains the ability to protect her city thanks to a secret organization called the Tsukikage. The group operates out of Momo's high school, where they train as spies that battle it out with the worst criminals in the city. Now as a full-fledged member of Tsukikage, Momo strives to become one of the best spies the Tsukikage has ever seen in order to protect the city.

Major Similarities Between Princess Principal and Release the Spyce

1. Schoolgirl Spies

Both stories follow a group of schoolgirls who are part of a secret spy group that operates through the school to tackle the criminal underbelly of society. Each of the girls has their own special set of skills and abilities to help them tackle their missions.

2. Story Balance

Release the Spyce has many of the same tones to the story that you find in Princess Principal. Both anime do a great job at balancing out the serious and light-hearted elements in their stories. Release the Spyce focuses more on the light-hearted elements than Princess Principal did, but both anime are able to balance out their stories in a way that gives you an interesting and enjoyable series.

3. Character Designs

The character designs are one of the major draws for both series. Each of the girls has a cute design that shows off their unique style and helps pull their characters together. The anime create an interesting juxtaposition between the cute character designs and the dark and gritty world they find themselves in.

Akanesasu Shoujo tells the story of a group of girls that make up the Crystal Radio Club. The club gathers around an old tree to attempt to gain access to a brand new universe. After numerous failed attempts to travel to a new universe, they a surprise when they are actually successful and find themselves in a strange new place. The girls are attacked by a vicious monster but are saved by a girl that looks like their club member, Asuka Tsuchimiya. With a new universe to explore, the girls begin to investigate the truth behind this new universe and how it connects to their own.

Major Similarities Between Princess Principal and Akanesasu Shoujo

1. The Characters

The characters are the best part of both series, with both series featuring a great cast of characters. Both anime focus on a group of young girls that finds themselves forced into a battle that will forever change the ways of their world. The girls are all incredibly interesting characters and are able to help carry the stories even through the weaker parts.

2. Beautiful Fight Scenes

The animation in both series is very good and the fight scenes may be the best looking things in both series. Akanesasu Shoujo goes for a Fantastical style to its fights scenes, while Princess Principal focuses on slightly more realistic action sequences. While the styles may be different, the results are the same, with some beautiful visuals and well choreographed action scenes.
