After the discovery of a resource called Cavorite, the Kingdom of Albion was able to make incredible advancements in their military technology. These advances allowed Albion to become one of the worlds strongest military powers. However, the countries rise to military dominance created a power struggle between the rich and the poor, splitting the city of London in two. Now known as the Commonwealth and the Kingdom, the two sides continue to battle in the shadows with their spies. The story follows a group of young girls from Queen's Mayfair school that work as spies for the Commonwealth, s they set out to make their way into the Kingdom in order to to get close to the nation's princess.

Despite the anime's serious tone, Princess Principal has many similar traits to Release the Spyce. Both anime follow a group of schoolgirls who work as spies, with each of the girls having unique skills that help them and their team. Outside of the characters, the world building of the anime are very similar despite taking place in different time periods and two very different cities. We see this with the cities that appear to be normal from the outside, the prevalence of spies and a mysterious element that powers both the good and bad guys.The anime also have a similar combination of serious and lighthearted elements, that will keep you interested all the way through..

2. Flip Flappers

Cocona Cocona is an ordinary middle school girl that has been struggling with deciding what to do with her future. One day, Cocona meets a strange and energetic girl named Paprika. Paprika takes an instant liking to Cocona despite cold and no-nonsense personality. Cocona finds herself dragged into a mysterious world called Pure Illusion by Paprika. Cocona learns that the world of Pure illusion is filled with danger, but with the help of Paprika and some magical new powers, she is able to protect herself. With the help of their magical powers, Cocona and Paprika begin to explore the world of Pure Illusion, as they work together to collect the crystal shards.

Flip Flappers, matches up with the tone and style of Release the Spyce better than any show on the list. Both anime have some stellar action but they also have a large focus on some of their more upbeat and comedic elements. The stories also spend a large amount of time diving deep into the characters relationships and we get to see a deep bond form between the main characters as they grow to understand each other. Visually, the anime are also very similar with some very colorful character designs and backgrounds.

3. Battle Girl High School

In the year 2045, the world has been invaded by mysterious creatures called Irousu. Humans find themselves in danger when the Irousu start destroying the world. Luckily, a new power has been gifted to humans in order to fight back against the Irousu. Young girls have gifted the ability to become Hoshimori and gain powers greater than the Irousu. A special school called The Shinjugamine Girls Academy was created to help cultivate some of the most talented young girls to help save the earth.

If you are interested in moe aspects of Release the Spyce, Battle Girl High School has you covered. Battle Girl High School is another anime that features a similar balance to the action and comedy that is seen in Release the Spyce. There are large casts of characters in both anime giving you a wide variety of different characters that help keep the story different and interesting. The action in Battle Girl High School may not be as interesting as the action scenes in Release the Spyce, but it more than makes up for it with the similar style in the non-action scenes.

For many years, a group of monsters called Aratama, have threatened the way of life for humans. In order to train a force to defend the world, schools were created to train young girls to fight against the monsters. The story follows Kanami Etou as she represents her school in the annual tournament. When chaos erupts at the tournament, Kanami sets out to find out the truth behind the Toji.

The characters in Toji no Miko and Release the Spyce are very similar and are used the same way in their stories. The main characters Kanami and Momo, are upbeat energetic girls that want nothing more than to protect those around them. They find themselves paired up with Hiyori and Yuki, who are stoic and determined girls that also desire to protect people but goes about it in a completely different way. Kanami and Momo must learn to work together in order to achieve their goals. Outside of the characters, the anime also feature deep plots that have many twists and include plenty of action.


5. Schoolgirl Strikers: Animation Channel

Schoolgirl Strikers tells the story of a secret group of girls at Goryoukan Academy, that fight against a group of aliens called O'bli. The all-female Goyoukan Academy selects a group of girls to form a special unit called the Fifth force. As members of the Fifth Force, the girls obtain magical powers in order to defeat the O'bli. The girls gain the ability to enter into different dimensions as they battle against the O'bli and gain new powers along the way.

This is another anime that features a schoolgirl unit that bands together to fight against threats against the world. While many of the anime on this feature a similar comedic style to Release the Spyce, Schoolgirl Strikers really captures the essence of the comedy. The comedy centers around doing some outrageous things but in their universe it is normal and nobody questions it. Along with the comedy, both series also have some very nice looking action scenes that will keep you wanting more. Both series also features cute character designs, a fun story, fanservice, and some have some very nice visuals.


6. Full Metal Panic!

An anti-terrorist private military organization known as Mithril works to protect the world from any terrorist threat. Sergeant Sousuke Sagara finds himself tasked with protecting a Japanese high school student named Kaname Chidori. Unbeknownst to her, Kaname has become a target of various criminal organizations. Sousuke enrolls at Jindai High School in order to watch over Kaname. Despite having the courage and skill to overcome all the obstacles ever placed before him, adapting to the life of a regular teenager while also protecting Kaname may be Sousuke's toughest job yet.

Full Metal Panic may not have the many of the same themes that are talked about in the other name we have featured, but it does have some themes and aspects that make it a great comparison to Release the Spyce. Some of the minor similarities are the high school setting, the underground organization fighting against evil, and the ability to go from high octane action to high school comedy without losing a beat. The main aspect that makes the two anime similar are their action scenes. With similarities in both style and execution, you won't be able to keep your eyes off of the action. Using some futuristic tools and the personality of the characters, each action scene is not only exciting to watch but they also make for some of the best moments in both anime.
