Overpowered heroes in anime are a theme us otaku are quite used to at this point. We have seen hundreds of anime take a seemingly normal-looking dude and infuse him with millions of abilities, weapons, and skills which then make almost any challenge seem like a walk in the park. Despite how cliché this theme is though, we still love it and find it quite entertaining! An anime that recently threw this theme at us was Isekai How Not to Summon a Demon Lord which was a truly funny and entertaining show. That series ended a few years ago but luckily, we here at Honey’s Anime have found two more recent similar anime that you may want to check out! Just like How Not to Summon a Demon Lord these two series are filled with overpowered protagonists who can’t be touched and equally, some cute waifu to enjoy!

Despite the name, Infinity Game—a popular MMORPG—is shutting down all servers. Creator Akira Oono watches as the final hours of his beloved game wind down but something unexpected occurs when the clock hits midnight. Akira finds himself transported inside the game world in the body of Infinity Game’s Demon Lord Hakuto Kunai! Now Akira must become Hakuto and travel the landscape of his famed game to see why he’s been summoned here and what mysteries are appearing in this once normal MMORPG.

Major Similarities Between Isekai Maou to Shoukan Shoujo no Dorei Majutsu (How Not to Summon a Demon Lord) and Maou-sama, Retry! (Demon Lord, Retry)

1. Overpowered Demon Kings!

Hakuto and Takuma might hail from two realities—Hakuto is within a MMORPG—they are both extremely overpowered demon lords that know no power greater than them. Hakuto can literally make barriers appear without lifting a finger and summon giant plumes of energy from his body! Meanwhile, we have Takumi who can use a bevy of elemental abilities as if he’s mastered them all! They do have their few moments where situations occur showing someone might have an edge, ultimately they end up showing no threat is greater than their might.

2. Exciting Battle

Overpowered demon lords might be cool but if the action doesn’t match up there isn’t anything to love about the series. Thankfully, Isekai Maou-sama,Retry! has tons of wickedly cool battles that are both exciting and visually stunning. One of our personal favorites was Hakuto unleashing 100% of his skills against an enemy known as Carnival! Without missing a beat, Hakuto rushes up to the demon, picks him up with one hand, launches him into the sky and unleashes a strong magical attack as if it was the easiest move in the world. Hakuto might be an older looking demon lord but he kicks butt as if he was a teenager in a shonen series!

Liked Isekai Maou to Shoukan Shoujo no Dorei Majutsu (How Not to Summon a Demon Lord)? Watch Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha: Shijou Saikyou no Maou no Shiso, Tensei shite Shison-tachi no Gakkou e (The Misfit of Demon King Academy)!

  • Episodes: 13
  • Aired: July 2020 – Currently Airing

2000 years ago, a powerful demon lord was known far and wide across the lands. Anos Voldigoad eventually perished after unleashing a powerful spell that would change the world’s very landscape but he did make a vow to be reincarnated one day in the future. The time for his promise has come and Anos has been reborn in a world very different than the one he left behind. However, in this new age, his name is all but unknown and he must learn why time has been seemingly altered. Luckily, Anos might be considered a misfit but his powers haven’t lessened over these last 2000 years.

Major Similarities Between Isekai Maou to Shoukan Shoujo no Dorei Majutsu (How Not to Summon a Demon Lord) and Futekigousha: Shijou Saikyou no Maou no Shiso, Tensei shite Shison-tachi no Gakkou e (The Misfit of Demon King Academy)

1. Action-Packed Fights

Thanks to the extreme power of Anos in Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha, the battles he engages in lean towards our main protagonist Anos but echo Hakuto’s battles in his respective series. A great example of Anos making a fight exciting is when he duels a swordsman with only a stick just to prove his magical abilities! Though we have to wonder; if Anos and Hakuto clashed, who would come out on top? Our bet, Anos. This man legit picked up a castle and threw it like it was a baseball…that’s pretty incredible.

2. Plenty of Cute and Potential Waifu

One element we loved about How Not to Summon a Demon Lord was the impressive cast of ladies we were introduced to. While How Not to Summon a Demon Lord had a bit more of an ecchi spin than The Misfit of Demon King Academy, that doesn’t mean the latter’s cast of ladies are any less cute and appealing. We might have a waifu war coming soon as we can’t choose between Misha or her sister Sasha Necron!

Final Thoughts

Demons unleashing massive special attacks and being all cool while doing it never gets old, let’s be honest. Watching a cool guy—who isn’t evil, by the way—snap his fingers and summon a fireball the size of a planet never isn’t impressive to witness. We never get tired of series like these which is why we love the anime we mentioned above! Have you seen the anime we mentioned? Let us know which shows you’ve seen and/or which you plan to check out! As always, stick to our amazingly overpowered hive here at Honey’s Anime for even more anime-themed articles!
