As our bands of characters unite to overcome challenging obstacles, their combined strengths and personalities are some of the reasons they get along so well. Gakkougurashi! and Sounan Desu ka? share with viewers that although young and cute, the groups of girls take matters into their own hands, versus being damsels in distress waiting for a dashing knight to save them. Gakkougurashi! and Sounan Desu ka? both share similar themes by combining survival with comedy and adventure. These anime are special and spectacular because they’re entertaining and share valuable information that can be used in critical conditions. Who knows? A zombie-apocalypse seems probable nowadays!
2. Most Unforgettable
We’ve seen many female lead characters that are likable, detested, or boring, specifically the kind of cookie-cutter stereotype that can easily be passed or ignored. Gakkougurashi! and Sounan Desu ka? both have main characters who possess an interesting quality that has not been represented in any current series. Homare’s outdoor survivalist skills passed down from her father have proven essential to keeping the group going on a day-to-day basis. Yuki, on the other hand, starts as a cheerful girl only to later slip into a dark, delusional state. While their appearances may show radiance and optimism, Homare and Yuki do not demonstrate common school girl characteristics.

It’s 2063, an era where space travel is the norm and accessible to all. We are introduced to Aries Spring, a cheerful teen stoked about going to summer camp on the planet McPa, which is relatively distant from her current location. Unfortunately, as she waits to board, a purse-snatcher gets away with her bag. However, Kanata Hoshijima, school jock, dashes after the thief and retrieves her bag. Later, Aries comes to learn that Kanata, along with other schoolmates—Luca, Charce, Yunhua, Funicia, Quitterie, Zack, and Ulgar-- will be traveling with her to summer camp.
En route to the campsite, a mysterious black sphere engulfs their ship, sending the nine passengers far across the galaxy. The situation is grim as they are stranded without a clue on how to get back. However, when they find a ship that can potentially get them home, they realize that the return journey will be longer than expected. Can the Astra sustain the nine back to their part of the galaxy?

Although many of us would like to forget about woes when embarking on a grand journey, it’s been known that the “bumps in the road” make any trip more exciting. This sentiment is reflected in both scenarios present in Gakkougurashi! and Kanata no Astra. Following this line of thought, their paths are not going to be straight and narrow, making their roads an exhilarating and curvy experience. Whether it’s trying to get through hordes of zombies or making a long trip back home, Gakkougurashi! and Kanata no Astra are stories that share interesting and exciting adventures along the way.
2. It’s Realistic
Gakkougurashi! and Kanata no Astra have similar animation utilizing an array of colors and art that is eye-catching. The method of storytelling is similar in that the characters exist in a high school-aged environment dealing with teen drama along with an issue bigger than themselves. As the characters share their experiences, we can distinguish common traits and premises with scenarios that differ episode by episode.
