Three Major Similarities Between Gakusen Toshi Asterisk (The Asterisk War: The Academy City on the Water) and Busou Shoujo Machiavellianism (Armed Girl’s Machiavellism)

1. Girls Who Pack a Punch

In Gakusen Toshi Asterisk and Busou Shoujo Machiavellianism, we enter a setting where the girls, at their respective schools, are trained fighters. Whether it’s to protect the wellbeing of their peers, or to become competitors in a fighting festival, both involve girls with weapons. In Busou Shoujo Machiavellianism, Nomura witnesses first hand, the deadliness of the Supreme Five Swords. However, the Supreme Five Swords aren’t the only ones who are armed. Throughout the school, girls carry batons, whips, fans, blowguns, and every girl is well prepared and trained to defend themselves.

2. Hidden Power

Does it ever irk you when you see that the main protagonist looks or acts like a dweeb? In Gakusen Toshi Asterisk and Busou Shoujo Machiavellianism, our main protagonists don’t really seem to be the most powerful characters. Yet, when our main protagonists are put into a duel or up to the test, they prove that they are not ones to be messed with. In Busou Shoujo Machiavellianism, Nomura wants to be able to leave the school when he wants to. However, in order to do that, he must get permission from the Supreme Five Swords. Each girl is reluctant to approve Nomura and instead wishes to discipline him. Nomura defends himself with metal studded gloves and one by one handles each girl of the Supreme Five Swords, though Nomura is forced to use his secret technique, Spirit Bullet.

3. Mysterious Past

In Gakusen Toshi Asterisk and Busou Shoujo Machiavellianism, we unfortunately don’t get the protagonist’s full story from the get go. Instead, we are left in shrouded mystery about the MC’s past, and little by little their mysterious past begins to unravel. In Busou Shoujo Machiavellianism, we only get small glimpses of why Nomura transferred schools. Unfortunately, we are left with various holes on who exactly Nomura is, but some of Nomura past is revealed when he opens up to some of the Supreme Five Swords or when he is remembering his previous encounters with certain characters.

Three Major Similarities Between Gakusen Toshi Asterisk (The Asterisk War: The Academy City on the Water) and Rokudenashi Majutsu Koushi to Akashic Records

1. Strong When Needed

Gakusen Toshi Asterisk and Rokudenashi Majutsu Koushi to Akashic Records, are anime that bring us two protagonists that seem weak in the eyes of everyone. However, when they are needed the most, they truly show what they are capable of. In Rokudenashi Majutsu Koushi to Akashic Records, Glenn is portrayed as a really weak magician. On the first day of class, Glenn is challenged by one of the students, Sistine Fibel, to a duel. At this moment, viewers expected Glenn to prove himself to be an adequate teacher, but unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. Glenn is soundly defeated by Sistine but as the school is attacked by an unknown group, Glenn rises to the occasion and shows everyone what he is capable of. Plus, having a card that negates all kinds of magic is a pretty overpowered ability to have.

2. Princess, Kuudere, and Tsundere

One reason why Gakusen Toshi Asterisk and Rokudenashi Majutsu Koushi to Akashic Records are very similar, is because of the kind of characters we find surrounding the MC. In Gakusen Toshi Asterisk, Ayato is surrounded by a princess in Julius, a Kuudere in Saya, and a tsundere in Julis. In Rokudenashi Majutsu Koushi to Akashic Records, we see a similar lineup of characters surrounding Glenn. Rumia takes the role of the princess, Re=L can be seen as the kuudere, and lastly, our tsundere is the lovely Sistine.

3. Revealing Past

In Rokudenashi Majutsu Koushi to Akashic Records and Gakusen Toshi Asterisk, we get protagonists, Glenn and Ayato, who both have a very mysterious past. Before Glenn became a teacher, he was part of the military that incorporated magic. As the anime progress, we get hints at why Glenn ended up leaving the military. We see that Glenn decided to leave the army because of the things he lost due to being involved in the military. And now that he has found a new home amongst the school and his students, his past begins to come out and that leaves us wondering what kind of person Glenn was before becoming a teacher.
