Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha (The Misfit of Demon King Academy) Introduction and Story

Two thousand years ago, a brutal war ravaged the world, leading various races into a bloody conflict that seemed never-ending. Anos Voldigoad—the powerful Demon King—sought an end to this strife and allowed the Great Hero Kanon to kill the Demon King, allowing his sacrifice to unleash a powerful magic. With his final spell, the world was split into several realms allowing peace between the races of demons and humans. Now in the present, Anos has been reincarnated but he quickly discovers that, while peace has reigned supreme, a nefarious plot looms that could undo his sacrifice from so long ago.

All Hail Anos Voldigoad!!!

Let’s not beat around the bush. One element you’ll absolutely love about The Misfit of Demon King Academy is the main man himself, Anos Voldigoad. As overpowered as our Demon King is, Anos is a truly fun character who acts arrogant but can always back up his bravado with his skills. There isn’t a single time we worried about Anos’ safety. More often than not, we wondered how Anos would conquer his foes this time around!

Tropes? Where?

With fantasy anime like The Misfit of Demon King Academy, one would almost expect the series to pull the usual tropes such as an overabundance of ecchi and/or unneeded episodes that feel like filler. Thankfully, The Misfit of Demon King Academy rarely ever uses any ecchi—there are a few moments where partial nudity rears up but in good taste—and always feels like it’s moving towards the central plot. There wasn’t ever a point where we groaned or rolled our eyes due to a theme we’ve seen in most anime of this genre.

Visuals and Music

Studio Silver Link rarely disappoints us here at Honey’s Anime and The Misfit of Demon King Academy delivers what our eyes and ears needed; strong animation and sound. We loved the voice cast for The Misfit of Demon King Academy—especially Anos, who is voiced by Tatsuhisa Suzuki—and equally loved the music! On top of that, the visuals and designs seen in The Misfit of Demon King Academy are quite good giving the show a strong presence all the way through! Get ready for some truly godly animation when the final episode concludes with an epic duel between two powerhouse characters!

Ok, What Was That About?

If there was anything that truly annoyed us about The Misfit of Demon King Academy it would hands down be Anos’ fan club. These ladies—while quite attractive—support our Demon King in various ways through the series but also sing for him twice to power him up. Needless to say, both times these songs came were moments we wished to mute our ears and TVs while they sang their fangirl-themed songs.

Plot and Story—Let me guess…

We will tell you this now, don’t ever expect the story for The Misfit of Demon King Academy to surprise you. This 13-episode series will wow you with some epic fights and some truly cute scenes but never with a surprising reveal or moment. Everything from the true main villain to the events that befall our Anos are pretty predictable. You will always know what will happen next and that can be a reason to shy some viewers away.

Overpowered Demon King = Little Threat

Anos Voldigoad will be a reason most anime viewers love The Misfit of Demon King Academy and will also be why some will hate the show a bit. Anos is overpowered in every definition of the word and rarely ever shows a moment of possible defeat. Anos is probably one of the strongest male protagonists we’ve seen in a long while and while that might entice some, others will hate that he seemingly has no true weakness.

Final Thoughts

The Misfit of Demon King Academy truly shocked us. We absolutely loved Anos and his band of teammates—like Misha and Sasha—and enjoyed witnessing their short journey to rekindle the Demon King’s name. As much as we loved this short series, however, we equally did have some issues with the predictable nature of the story and the fact that it had some truly odd singing elements that felt overly goofy. In the end, though, The Misfit of Demon King Academy was a fantasy anime we’d recommend to most and know we weren’t the only ones who loved it.
