Top 10 Anime Boys We Want to Give a Present to - 2018

With Christmas around the corner, we’re all desperately trying to figure out the perfect present to give each person on our list. It always feels great to give someone you love a heartfelt gift that they appreciate, especially if they’ve had a difficult year and need a little extra care and attention.

That’s why we wish we could give presents to these 10 anime guys from 2018. They’ve all been through hard times, but their good hearts see them through even the darkest days. We want to reward them with personalized Christmas gifts to let them know how appreciated they are. These are the top 10 anime guys from 2018 we want to give a present to!

-- Spoilers Ahead!! --

10. Hirotaka Nifuji from Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii (Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku)

  • Episodes: 11
  • Air Date: April 2018 – June 2018

We hope Narumi doesn’t get mad at us for saying this, but Hirotaka is just our type! It’s not every day that you find an otaku who’s also a cute anime boy. He’s so early on the list because he hasn’t had to wade through as many difficult life problems as the others, but he still has to suffer through that most soul-crushing of situations; banal office work.

Hirotaka seems like the kind of guy who opens up little by little once you get to know him, and we’d love to do that by playing video games with him at his apartment and maybe getting a little kiss at the end, just like Narumi did. Since he likes fighting games, we think that gifting him a new multiplayer game would do the trick to melt his heart.

Suggested Present: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on Nintendo Switch.

9. Yuuta Hibiki from SSSS.Gridman

  • Episodes: 12
  • Air Date: October 2018 – Currently Airing

Yuuta is just an ordinary kid, but his life completely changes when he suddenly loses his memories while over at his friend Rikka’s house. On top of that, the Hyper Agent, Gridman, tells him to “fulfill his purpose” and drags him into battle against dangerous enemies from the Demon World.

To Yuuta’s credit, he takes to his new reality quite well and tries to make new friends while reconnecting with Rikka. We want him to know that he’s appreciated no matter what his history might be, and that “fulfilling his purpose” comes second to living a life that he’s happy with. Such a young kid shouldn’t have to shoulder such big burdens all by himself.

Suggested Present: a framed photo of him with all of his friends .

8. Junk Dog/Joe from Megalo Box

  • Episodes: 13
  • Air Date: April 2018 – June 2018

Not much is known about Joe—his history, his family, and even his real name remain shrouded in mystery. All we know is that he used to be an underground boxer who purposefully lost matches for gambling profits, but got frustrated with just being a pawn and quit that life. Now he wants a real fight against the top boxers in the world in the Megalonia competition.

We’d be happy just to be groupies, cheering for him from the sidelines, but what would truly make him happy would probably be a friendly match against one of the top boxers in the world. It would allow him to learn and adapt to new fighting styles while coming up with ways to take down his greatest rival, Yuri. This man without a past should be able to work towards his future with all the support he can get.

Suggested Present: sparring time with a legendary boxer.

7. Nishikata from Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san (Teasing Master Takagi-san)

  • Episodes: 12
  • Air Date: January 2018 – March 2018

This poor guy really needs a break. All day, every day, his classmate Takagi tortures him with pranks and he can never come up with a good comeback. He has a crush on her and still considers her his best friend, but Takagi is still quite the tsundere and never lets up on him—even though she likes him a lot, too.

Despite thinking that it isn’t manly, he also loves cats and romance anime. We want to give him a relaxing afternoon at a local cat café, hopefully with some shoujo manga available to read while playing with the cats. It’ll give him time away from Tagaki to catch his breath, and also some thinking time to finally out-prank her.

Suggested Present: a gift certificate to a cat café.

6. Guido Mista from JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken: Ougon no Kaze (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind)

  • Episodes: 39
  • Air Date: October 2018 – Currently Airing

Mista is a badass gangster and the resident gunslinger for Bucciarati’s team, helped by his stand Sex Pistols. His calm skill and the Pistols’ ricocheting bullet ability make for a deadly combination that decimates his enemies during the many battles he finds himself in over the course of Golden Wind. Unfortunately, he also has a tendency to get shot by his own bullets when an enemy stand can reflect them back at him.

With the sheer amount of damage he takes, he really should’ve died many times over. Giorno always heals him with his stand Gold Experience, but that process is so excruciatingly painful that Mista has likely suffered more than the characters who actually do die. We’d love to give him a “get well” present to help him soldier on through his many, many injuries.

Suggested Present: a new cashmere crop top to replace the one he keeps getting bullet holes in.

5. Katsuki Bakugou from Boku no Hero Academia 3rd Season (My Hero Academia 3)

  • Episodes: 25
  • Air Date: April 2018 – September 2018

Bakugou has a tendency to express any emotion he’s actually feeling as anger once it reaches the surface, but he finally breaks down after he’s saved from the League of Villains in season 3. He idolizes All Might just as much as Deku does, and the crushing realization that his rescue drained the last vestiges of power from the Symbol of Peace drives him to self-loathing.

His jealousy for Deku as All Might’s apprentice boils over and he takes it out on him in an unlicensed brawl that brings out his true feelings about the whole situation. Bakugou may be a bully with a hair-trigger temper, but he’s a confident kid with a good heart deep inside. We want to let him know that he isn’t All Might’s “killer” and that he still has a bright future ahead of him.

Suggested Present: an action figure of himself.

4. Gansaibou/Cancer Cell from Hataraku Saibou (Cells at Work!)

  • Episodes: 13
  • Air Date: July 2018 – September 2018

Yes, it’s a bit strange to be so sympathetic to literal cancer, but if anime can make us weak in the knees for warship waifus and zombie idols, this was bound to happen eventually. The cancer cell that we see in Cells at Work pretends to be a normal member of the crowd while secretly manipulating others into allowing him to spread and try to eventually kill the body that they all live in.

However, he didn’t want to be this way. He was born with an error in his DNA, so the other cells have always hated him and he harbors resentment for being shunned because of factors he can’t control. The cancer cell clearly shouldn't be allowed to hurt anyone else, but we wish we could tell him that he isn’t defined by the circumstances of his birth. We still want the best for him.

Suggested Present: a Petri dish where he can live out his life in peace.

3. Ash Lynx from Banana Fish

  • Episodes: 24
  • Air Date: July 2018 – December 2018

Similar to the cancer cell from Cells at Work, Ash never wanted to be the violent gang leader that he is now. His upbringing as a mafia sex slave and subsequent escape to New York City’s seedy underbelly shaped him into a highly efficient killer with master manipulating skills. He envies his friend Eiji for not having to wield a gun just to get through daily life.

Later in the series, Ash’s enemies have caught on to his deep affection for Eiji and use the threat of killing him to force Ash to follow their orders. All he wants is a quiet life with his boyfriend, far away from the mafia and prostitution and drugs. If we could protect him while he spends some quality time with Eiji in safety, we absolutely would.

Suggested Present: a heavily guarded vacation to Japan with Eiji.

2. Rintarou Okabe from Steins;Gate 0

  • Episodes: 23
  • Air Date: April 2018 – September 2018

If there exists a maximum singularity of suffering, the version of Okabe from Steins;Gate 0 has reached it. Unlike the timeline from the original series, where he searched for a way to prevent Kurisu’s seemingly inevitable death, this Okabe is so devastated by seeing her corpse for the first time that he spirals into a terrible depression.

Something tells us that words or material gifts aren’t going to help him feel any better, so we’d just want to give him a hug. People going through depression and trauma need lots of time to recover, and as much as we wish Okabe could return to his adorkable normal self right away, we can only hope that he realizes our good intentions and takes them to heart.

Suggested Present: a nice, warm hug.

1. Akira Fudo from Devilman: Crybaby

  • Episodes: 10
  • Air Date: January 2018

It’s a mystery how Akira and Ryo became such good friends in the first place since Akira is a cinnamon roll frosted with sunshine and Ryo is a calculating killer, but the truth is that they care deeply for each other. In fact, Ryo cares so much for Akira that he turns him into a demon and burns the entire planet to the ground just to be with him.

Akira suffers more in 10 episodes than most anime characters will over multiple seasons, and it’s all because of his attachment to his mysterious childhood friend. We wish he could’ve spent more time with his parents, progressed his relationship with Miki, and lived out the normal life that he deserved to have. But if he could just get away from Ryo for one day, it would’ve made his miserable existence just a little bit better.

Suggested Present: we’ll occupy Ryo for a day so that Akira can spend time with Miki.

Final Thoughts

All of these guys deserve love and validation this Christmas, whether they’re going through earth-shattering trauma or just the small struggles that come with the human experience. But since we can’t actually give them presents, we’re going to try to find people in our own lives who could use some similar kindness for the holidays. Try it yourself—it’s always rewarding!

What did you think of our list? What 2018 anime guy do you want to give a present to? Let us know in the comments, and thanks so much for reading!
