Alderamin on the Sky is based on a light novel. This anime captures the story of Ikta Solork, who is an unambitious, but brilliant military strategist. “In this cursed world, scorched by the flames of a never-ending war, one nation stood unmatched, the empire, whose vast military and industrial powers kept its flag flying ever victorious in battle, but no country can stay invisible forever. Despite its incredible forces, the fatherland has found itself surrounded by enemy armies facing defeat. Threats on multiple fronts, the empire strikes with the full power of the fatherland. But how long will this work?”

Youjo Senki a.k.a Saga of Tanya the Evil chronicles the life of Second Lieutenant Tanya Degurechaff, who is the reincarnation of a douchebag salaryman. Given the opportunity of a second life by “Being X”, what we would normally refer to as God, Tanya decides to fully take advantage of the circumstances. Starting off in an orphanage, Tanya soon discovers that she has great mage abilities. From her skills, Tanya knows her full potential would be beneficial to the war effort. As such, instead of waiting conscription, she volunteers, rapidly advancing in the field. Through each episode, we soon find out why many refer to her as “The devil of the Rhine.”

Three Major Similarities Between Nejimaki Seirei Senki: Tenkyou no Alderamin and Youjo Senki

1. Magic Aids The War Effort

What sets Youjo Senki and Alderamin apart from your average war tactic anime is that it has elements of magic. These boosts of power help supply our main characters with the complete look of “major badass” on the battlefront. The powers from Tanya as a mage in Youjo Senki and the elemental spirits in Alderamin are essential components required in combat. As such, this aspect in both makes for very interesting and compelling plots.

2. Checkmate!

With a great emphasis in military strategy, both Youjo and Alderamin highlight this tactical game, which seeks to achieve long-term positioning and advantages. In the rules of chess, as an unofficial observer, the various stages of the game and methods can often predict the overall outcome in preceding sequences. Essentially, this can be said in likeness to battle: one side waits for the other to make a move before engaging their own; whatever decision is made can be favorable or bring them closer to the end.

3. Brains Over Brawn

We see in Youjo and Alderamin that it takes more than muscle to defeat your enemies. Tanya and Ikta are both cunning individuals, who are extremely crafty when it comes to getting what they want. Apart from their natural talents and abilities in mage-craft and science, their character and personality stands out significantly, in an atmosphere not normally recognized for wit and cleverness.

“The newly established Goryoukan Academy for girls…. It boasts a campus in the middle of the city and well-furnished facilities. It has both a middle and a high school and is quite popular. And this school has one more side to it….”

Schoolgirl Strikers is a story of five young girls of Altair Torte, a division of the Fifth Force: Tsubame, Mana, Yuumi, Stoka and Io. These girls have the ability to detect beings from the Fifth Dimension, O’bli, who are threatening and invading their reality. As Goryoukan’s side objective is to find individuals for the Fifth Force and train them, we watch these girls struggle and triumph over the responsibilities of being teenage heroes.

Three Major Similarities Between Nejimaki Seirei senki: Tenkyou no Alderamin and Schoolgirl Strikers: Animation Channel

1. High Intensity Training

When we compare Schoolgirl Strikers and Alderamin, we can easily distinguish that our characters aren’t born with combative skills, but had to constantly work at these qualities through intensive physical and academic training. We observe with each character, that they put their battle skills to the test with countless drills, competition, and mock battles. When the time calls for our heroes to commit to their responsibilities, they have these exercises to fall back on, successfully wiping out the adversary every time.

2. “It’s The Little Things That Count”

Even though their future hangs by a thread for Altair Torte and the officers siding with the Katjvarna Empire, each of our characters finds the time to enjoy life’s simple pleasures, amidst the conflict and world destruction put in front of them. When our girls of Altair Torte aren’t involved with taking down O’bli, they enjoy volleyball, cooking, working, and solving a good mystery. As with Ikta, our main character in Alderamin, apart from being an intelligent military strategist, he is also known for being a total womanizer and a flirt. Although these qualities hold minimal significance to the storyline, we can be certain that if both groups were unsuccessful in their fight, these simple pleasures would not exist.

3. “Come On Over To The Winning Side”

In any story, it’s nice to see when villains turn good. In Schoolgirl Strikers, we watch the Origami sisters, Akara, Hina and Kori, find their own purpose in life, instead of fighting someone else’s battle. When the Origami sisters are first introduced, Morgana recruits them, as a means to seek out the girl in Fifth Force with the special ability. Owing a great debt to Morgana after she saved them from the orphanage, the Origami sisters pledged their allegiance to her. The girls then realize that they made an error in judgment and decide to contribute their efforts to the Fifth Force.

In Alderamin, we have Nanak Dar, Leader of the Sinaak Tribe. Her and her tribe’s cause in joining the war is to recover stolen spirits. Tribe members covertly move in for an attack, assassinating several key figures, and causing our imperial officers to analyze their motive. A holy war, as Nanak declares it, quickly draws to an end, as their forces diminish. After all is said and done, both sides seem to stand on the same page. Speaking as friends from long ago, Ikta implores Nanak to accept his apology and offer her assistance.

In our opinion, these strategic, military anime are absolutely engaging and intense; ones that’ll keep you at the edge of your seat.
