2. Cowboy Bebop

  • Episodes: 26
  • Aired: Apr. 1998 - Apr. 1999

Cowboy Bebop is set in the year 2071, where humanity has spread across the solar system to escape from the uninhabitable Earth. On the starship Swordfish, Spike Spiegel and Jet Black are two of these cowboys. Eventually, with a team of four people (and one hungry corgi) these bounty hunters cross the stars to bring in criminals and keep money in their pockets, mostly motivated by food. Through their adventures, their mysterious backstories are revealed.

Cowboy Bebop and RobiHachi are both light-hearted science fiction anime that take place across multiple planets. They both feature stories that can be told in a single episode but have a larger over-arching plot that pieces together each character’s story as well. Both RobiHachi and Cowboy Bebop have main characters who are in desperate need of money and are working to get some, with a little help from their eccentric and unlike friends. Finally, Cowboy Bebop and RobiHachi are both anime that balance action and comedy, using light-hearted humour when the show needs it the most.

Subaru has a personal mecha named Durandal who he fights alongside, protecting not only humanity back on Earth but the sanctity of his own cockpit from those who would try to take it from him!

Uchuu Senkan Tiramisu and RobiHachi are both comedy science fiction anime taking a lighter look at the sci-fi world. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann may not be set in space like the other anime on our list, but don’t assume it isn’t similar to RobiHachi - it is, just in a different way. It’s still a science fiction anime after all; Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is just a different kind of sci-fi. What RobiHachi has most in common with Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is the style and tone of the two anime. They’re both overwhelming, sometimes crazy, and really funny.
