Lupin III: Part 5 Introduction

Lupin III makes his way to the home of his grandfather where he seeks to make a name for himself just like his grandfather did. After he steals a talented hacker girl named Ami Enan from an evil group, his adventures in France take a strange turn. A group on the dark web make a game centered around Lupin, where everyone in the public could take photos of him for points. This game causes Lupin to have to run from the police, assassins, and the general public. With the help of Ami and his usual crew of Daisuke Jigen, Goemon Ishikawa, and Fujiko Mine, Lupin is ready to put his thievery skills to the test in France.

Why You Should Watch Lupin III: Part 5

1. The Visuals

One of the best parts of Lupin III: Part 5 is the visual style and the many ways in which it enhances the anime. Lupin's foray in France is filled with some beautiful scenery and impressive backdrops. All of the returning characters look better than they ever have before and the new characters have some great designs. The series also uses a different art style in the throwback episodes to emulate the art style of Lupin’s other adventures.

2. The Technology

The world of Lupin III now embraces modern technology with Lupin having all new tools at his disposal. Many of the episodes are focused around things like taking down an IT conglomerate and stealing from a group on the dark web. Lupin is able to dive deep into this new world and bring you a unique experience while keeping all of the Lupin III charm.

3. The Characters

Ami, The newest member of Lupin's crew, is a great addition to the cast and shows off the series’ focus on technology. Ami helps Lupin out with her hacking skills and shows up in many of the series major arcs to assist Lupin. Not only are the new characters great, but there is also a focus on the relationships between the usual members of Lupin's group.

Why You Should Skip Lupin III: Part 5

1. Bad Starting Point

If this is your first Lupin III anime, it may not be the best place to start. Although many of the episodes are one-offs and don't require prior knowledge of the series to enjoy, there are many references to the other series and you can miss out on a lot of the character development and serious moments if you aren't familiar with the characters.

2. More of the Same

If you have seen any of the other installments in the Lupin III series, you are in for a very similar anime. While Lupin III: Part 5 brings new elements to the series, the basic structure of the story is the same. If you haven't been a fan of the previous entries or are hoping this new series deviates from the usual formula, you will be disappointed.

Final Thoughts

Lupin III: Part 5 has a nice mix of action, comedy, and adventure along with an interesting story to keep you entertained all of the way through. Although there are many things to like about the series, there are a few aspects that might make it hard for everyone to get interested in watching the series.
