Three Fantasy & Supernatural Shows We Want to See for Summer 2017!

Introduction

Fantasy and supernatural anime have to be some of the best genres around. There is always an anime within arm’s reach to take us to another world, show us a new story, and for a moment, bewitch us with tales of that which will never come true. Sure, we know it will not happen in reality, but the fantasy and supernatural genres do it the best and rarely are we disappointed. There is just something about getting lost in a good anime, much like getting lost in a good book, that we love.

Navigating the sea of new anime each season though is a bit scary. Much like a purchase, you don’t want to select the wrong one only to drop it a few episodes in. That’s the worst because you feel as if you have wasted your time. We always talk about how selecting the best shows each season is hard for many reasons, and to make it a bit easier for you, the readers whom we love, we decided to talk about shows coming up in July that look so far to be home runs. Check out their information below and our thoughts so far on them!

1. Jigoku Shoujo: Yoi no Togi (Hell Girl 4th Season)

I am not even going to lie, I screamed a lot on the inside when I found out that this was announced. Jigoku Shoujo may have started over 12 years ago, but the series is able to evoke so many emotions from the viewer, you honestly would be surprised if you have not seen the series already. I do have to admit that when I saw the finale of the 3rd season, I was left with a feeling of dissatisfaction, and it turns out that my feelings were justly based in reality as we are getting another addition to the franchise. Not to mention too, no spoilers but, the ending of the third season was just so sad. It was so incredibly sad.

The fourth season of Jigoku Shoujo, also titled Jigoku Shoujo: Yoi no Togi is going to bring back all of the great characters that we know and love like Ai, Wanyuudo, Hone-onna, Ren, Yamawaro, and even Kikuri! There is going to be a new character introduced known as Michiru who is going to mysteriously appear and have some sort of connection to Ai. The other members of her circle are concerned about who this new girl is. The series is going to have 12 episodes but only 6 will be the new story while the other six will be sort of like review episodes where events from previous seasons will play out. So, there is a very good chance that Michiru’s episodes will appear in an abab format where a represents Michiru present and b represents the reflection episodes, or the episodes featuring Michiru could all appear at the end. There is a slight chance though that the reflection episodes could contain Michiru in them themselves which would be really cool and a re-telling of the stories that we have already seen, but let’s see!

2. Vatican Kiseki Chousakan (Vatican Kiseki Chousakan)

Supernatural? Check. Mystery? Check. Church-type setting? Check. Kinda feels like Hellsing and Trinity Blood had a baby? Check. Possibly vampires and most likely demons that need to be defeated with supernatural powers? Check. I’m all in! There is something about these gothic, church-setting series that you know without even starting it, it is going to be GOOD. This almost feels like ACCA from Winter 2017 if ACCA was good and had supernatural elements.

Anyway, the series follows Kou Josef Hiraga and Robert Nicholas; they two priests who are tasked with investigating miracles and seeing if they truly are miracles or if they are something else. They are known as the Vatican Miracle Examiners. They both work for the Vatican and serve under Archbishop Saulo–and this is the part that is important–who has experience in exorcisms. Even if the series does not get that dark, the series appears to be heading in the direction of an all-powerful being that they have to take down. They investigate stigmata one day (sores that appear in the hands and feet of people like Jesus supposedly had) and tears that fall from a statue of Maria. Something happens to them though while they explore this…

Honestly if that last part has not got you yet, I do not know what to tell you. Regardless though, check this out because it has the characteristics and potential to be really, really good!

3. Jikan no Shihaisha (Chronos Ruler)

So for anything and everything that it is worth, the series is already feeling like some sort of mix of like classical themes and settings, magic, mystery and investigators, and a mix of good battles & supernatural. To be perfectly honest, watching the PV below gives me feelings of Occultic;Nine meeting D.Gray-Man which is a good thing. The voicing is going to be on point with Jun Fukuyama (Koro-sensei from Ansatsu Kyoushitsu, Yukio from Ao no Exorcist, Lelouch from Code Geass), Kaito Ishikawa (Tenya from Boku no Hero Academia, Tobio from Haikyuu!!, Rinne from Kyoukai no RINNE), and Rie Kugimiya (Al from Fullmetal Alchemist, Kagura from Gintama, Nagi from Hayate no Goyoku!).

So far the synopsis we have been given is somewhat of a hook that makes us want more. Is says that Jikan no Shihaisha, also known as Chronos Rulers, are the rulers of time who fight against devils who try to consume human’s time. The story is going to be about the main character Vict, who has had his time stolen by a demon, and Kiri, his partner, who are going to get back that which was lost by manipulating time itself! If the story has not intrigued you yet, then be sure to look at the PV below because it will show you more of that world!
