Top 10 Video Game Bundles for Christmas 2018 [Best Recommendations]

Look, shopping for the holidays is rough. Everyone’s got a list of impossible-to-find items, and sometimes people ask for really vague items like “PlayStation 4” or “Video game console” without any more clarification as to what they want specifically. Or maybe you’re finally in the mood to pick up something for yourself and are looking for a good deal. But geez, there are just so many different system bundles out there that it might be difficult to choose one.

We thought we’d relieve some of the stress of this holiday season by giving our suggestions for the hottest deals for this holiday season. Black Friday has come and gone, but that doesn’t mean every system is sold out necessarily! It just means you may have to shop around a little more than usual.

10. Battlefield V Xbox One S Bundle

Have you been dragging your feet jumping into the Xbox brand? Have a craving for a new shooter but are sick of dealing with PSN? Just want to see what it’s like checking out the other team for once? We’d like to direct your attention to Microsoft’s Battlefield V Xbox One S bundle, which in addition to a digital copy said game, you’ll snag a 1TB hard drive to get you started and a slick matte white console.

It may not be the most glamorous bundle, but it’ll get the job done if you’re looking to pick up an Xbox One for the first time. It’ll only run you around $300, which means you’re getting a free game with your console. Most retailers still have this bundle in stock too, so you shouldn’t have to plan out any crazy trips hunting it down. No fuss, no muss.

9. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Switch Bundle

Who doesn’t love Mario Kart? No one, that’s who. If you have yet to snag a Switch but have gotten awfully tempted with the release of Pokemon Let’s Go and the upcoming Super Smash Bros Ultimate, this is going to be your best deal. It only runs about $399.99, which means you’re getting a free copy of Mario Kart with your Switch. The perfect centerpiece for your upcoming parties!

However, there is one thing we need to point out: Mario Kart 8 is an old game. And we’re not just talking about the Switch version, which is a year and a half old at this point; it came out on the Wii U as well! Even if Mario Kart 8 Deluxe adds the classic Mario Kart battle mode, there’s an extremely good chance you’ve already played this. That hasn’t stopped this bundle from selling like gangbusters though. This bundle is extremely difficult to find, though there are rumors of restocks coming in soon. If you’re interested, make sure to grab it if you see it!

8. Fallout 76 Xbox One X Bundle

Maybe you don’t want to just dip your toes into Xbox. Maybe you want to jump right in. Or maybe you’re in the market for an upgrade of your current Xbox One. Now’s the time with this Fallout 76 Xbox One X bundle, where you’ll get yourself an Xbox One with 4k capabilities, a 1TB hard drive, and a digital copy of Fallout 76. All of this can be yours for a little over $500 with tax. A steep price to pay, but hey, you don’t want to say your Xbox CAN’T run 4k, do you?

And, hey, we know you might be a little concerned about Fallout 76. After all, everyone was a bit hesitant about an online multiplayer version of their favorite single-player open-world franchise not called Elder Scrolls. However, this is all the more reason to pick up this bundle if you’re wanting an Xbox One! You’ll essentially be able to try it out for free, as it’s incorporated into the price of the bundle! Think of it like a free trial and bug your friends into buying a copy afterwards so you have someone to play with!

7. Super Mario Maker 2DS Bundle

You might be looking at this entry and thinking “What? Nintendo’s STILL selling the 3DS?” Not only are they still selling the system, they’re even still supporting it with new releases even into 2019! Think about it like this: if you haven’t bought one yet, now is the best time you possibly could. You’ve got a library of 6 years worth of games to catch up on, and for only $100, this 2DS is a steal. It’s even stylized with a Super Mario Maker color scheme!

Plus, you’ll get to try your hand at amateur game creation with Super Mario Maker. This was one of the Wii U’s most notable hit titles, and now you can take the experience with you on the go and pull it out for a quick level idea like how a writer carries around a pocket notebook. However, we’d be remiss if we didn’t also mention the extensive single-player campaign, which many Mario fans have cited as the best 2D Mario experience in years.

6. Astrobot PlayStation VR Bundle

Don’t let the threat of headaches deter you; VR is the future. Maybe it’s still a little far off from hitting the mainstream, but the fact of the matter is that VR is here to stay and really needs a few more games that push the technology. And at only $299, this bundle is an absolute steal. It’s the cheapest decent quality VR bundle you’ll ever find and you even get 2 full-fledged games with it to boot, as it comes with Moss in addition to Astrobot!

But let’s focus our attention on Astrobot. Astrobot was famously referred to as VR’s Mario 64 moment, which, considering the game has yet to move the hardware like Mario did for the N64, may have been a bit hasty. Nonetheless, Astrobot does make one of the best examples of how VR can be used in a traditional game context, combining a tight platforming experience with the fixed perspective of VR. It came out of nowhere and blew people away, making this the best bundle possible to show off VR!

5. Mario Tennis Aces Switch Bundle

Why go for just one game in your bundle when you could get two? While the Mario Tennis Aces Switch Bundle does cost around $390, you aren’t only getting Mario Tennis Aces with it! It also comes with a free copy of 1-2 Switch. Maybe it’s not the game you would have chosen to come with it, but hey, if you’re wanting Mario Tennis anyway, you’re probably interested in playing some multiplayer games this holiday anyway. Why not get another party game with that?

Besides, the Switch bundles are becoming increasingly hard to find this season, with many already selling out. If you’re wanting some more gaming for your dollar and were planning to pick up Mario Tennis Aces anyway, you’re probably not going to find many other bundles this holiday anyway. It’s a Walmart exclusive, so definitely snag it if you’re out for groceries and happen to see one!

4. Red Dead Redemption 2 PlayStation 4 Pro Bundle

Got a sweet deal on a 4K TV this Black Friday and need to flex a bit? Not willing to go with what Microsoft is offering this year? Just a huge Spaghetti Western fan? This Playstation 4 Pro bundled with Red Dead Redemption 2 is just what you want. It’s close to $450, but like most bundles, you’re getting a free game with the system. Also, like most Playstation 4 Pros, you’re receiving a 1TB hard drive on top of that, meaning you’ve seemingly got enough space to save your games until you realize just how huge game installation files have gotten!

But let’s talk about that game it comes with. Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of biggest releases of this holiday season, if not THE biggest. And what a game to bundle with a 4K system! Rockstar went all out with Read Dead Redemption 2, meticulously animating every single character movement with unbelievable graphical fidelity. It’s the perfect blockbuster game to show off just what your HD TV can really do!

3. Spider-Man PlayStation 4 Slim Bundle

Insomniac’s take on Spider-Man has gone down as one of the biggest exclusive hits of the year, selling over 3.3 Million units within the first few days of its release. People were in love with the return of 2004’s Spider-Man 2’s web-slinging mechanics, as well as how it captured the scrappiness of the hero that made Spider-Man such an international hit to begin with. It’s the perfect pack-in to go with Playstation 4 Slim for anyone who’s looking into getting into the new generation.

It’s such a good deal that you’re probably not going to find one anywhere. It was a Black Friday exclusive, and they were in such demand that they were selling out even before the holiday! Even if you’re only kinda sorta just maybe a little interested in a Playstation 4, if you happen to see one out in the wild, pick it up immediately! You won’t find a better deal than this!

2. Pokemon Let’s Go Switch Bundle

You didn’t think Nintendo was just going to sleep on bundling one of its biggest games for this year with the Switch, did you? At just around $500, the price might seem a bit steep, but you get plenty of bang for your buck. In addition to the system, you also get a downloadable copy of Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu! or Let’s Go Eevee! and the Pokeball controller attachment. Everything you need if you’re an aspiring Pokemon master!

The best part about the system, though? The absolutely adorable Pikachu and Eevee theme. It’s got a special set of Joy-Con controllers that are yellow and brown, which you won’t find anywhere else. Even better, the Switch dock is loaded with Pikachu and Eevee love with both creatures emblazoned on it; a first for the system. The Switch itself even has Eevees and Pikachus all over. It’s the first true special edition for the Switch, making it a must-buy for diehard fans!

1. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Switch Bundle

Okay, we said that the Pokemon Let’s Go Special edition was a first for the Switch, but that was really stretching the definition of “first”. Technically, it’s the first that comes with a readily playable game, but this Super Smash Bros. Ultimate bundle actually came out first. For about $500, you’ll get a copy of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate with a brand new Switch. You’re not really saving any money on it, but, hey, let’s face it… you’re buying a Switch for Smash Bros anyway. May as well just save some plastic and get your copy digitally with your new system! You just can’t play Smash Bros until the game actually comes out on December 7th!

Of course, the real reason you’re grabbing this system is for that sleek Smash Bros design. You’ll get a special edition set of Joy-Cons that when put together form the Smash Bros logo. The Switch dock also boasts a sick piece of art featuring the original 8 characters from the Nintendo 64 game. Even if you’ve already got a Switch, it may be worth the cost to upgrade to this model purely for the design! Just make sure you grab it fast, as these bundles are already tricky to find.

Final Thoughts

These systems should cover everything you could possibly be looking for this holiday season. Whether it’s a great deal, a cool design, or just the game that puts you over the edge into investing in a new console, you should be able to find something that appeals to you with one of these system bundles.

But, maybe we missed something? Please, let us know! There are even more system bundles this holiday season that we know we missed, so make sure to mention them in the comments below so others can know!
