For those who haven’t watched the first season of D.Gray-Man, perhaps it would be best suited to do so first before hopping into the second season. Much of the story continues from where the last story left off over 10 years ago, and now Allen and his team of exorcists must face off against the Noah, and a new threat that looms in the darkness. The Millennium Earl continues to taunt and manipulate Allen and his team, using sinister tactics in order to pit each person against each other to bring down the order. However, Earl knows something dark about Allen that no one else seems to realize, and so Earl is destined to bring out this dark power and use Allen to destroy his team and complete his ultimate plot to rule the universe.

3 Major similarities shared by Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu and D.Gray-Man Hallow!

1. Mysterious Power

Allen and Subaru have their own unique abilities that allow them to deal with certain situations in their own way. Allen has the power of being able to destroy akuma, and save the tortured souls that live within it to free them from further suffering. His innocence is seen as the light of god, since it’s used mainly to destroy darkness within and to restore peace. Both individuals were totally unaware of their mysterious power until they came to terms with it on their own, and used it to their advantage. The two never asked for their powers, and were thrown into a new world without being prepared for it. Subaru can die and come back to life, but only to start back at the same position he was initially.

The two must learn to understand just why they’ve been chosen, and to uncover more information as to why these events are unfolding around them. The enemy in both shows also have their own mysterious abilities which affect the outcome of story as it progresses.

2. Compassion to help others

Allen and Subaru were thrown into a crazy world full of supernatural beings with extraordinary powers. Through their journey they encountered many victims of suffering, or who were in need of help and the two always made it their priority to help when possible. For Subaru it was to help Satella track down her insignia, while for Allen it was to protect the well being of his comrades in battle. While they never truly asked for this type of lifestyle, they eventually realized that this was their calling and made sure to take care of what was necessary in order to move forward. Whenever someone was in danger the two would take the leap of faith and do their very best to ensure that nobody gets hurt. They sacrificed themselves for the sake of humanity, and to prevent further harm from turning the world into a dark merciless environment.

Their every decision counted because they realized just how valuable the help of others meant to them, and that more lives can be saved if they show care for everyone around them. While their circumstances constantly change throughout the show, they both show this tenacity to never give up in spite of what’s happening, to ensure that everyone can live their lives without any severe damage.

3. Death

If there’s one thing you’ll tend to see a lot of in both shows is a lot of dying. While D.Gray-Man focuses more directly on the action side of things, Re:ZERO uses light hearted comedy to cover up the real bloody truth that’s unfolding behind the scenes. Both encounter a lot of moments where people die and it’s up to both main leads to figure out a way to prevent more innocent people from suffering at the hands of evil. Subaru’s entire life is surrounded by death since he must use that ability to solve problems throughout his adventure. Allen however doesn’t want to die, and hates to see the souls of the innocent be devoured by the Akuma, which Earl created to wreak havoc on the world.

Allen and his team of exorcists must make challenging decisions when it comes to dealing with the enemy, since Akuma can devour anyone and that soul of the person still lives within it. There are moments where Allen must face off against one of his own who has been devoured by the Akuma, and has no other choice but to kill it despite knowing that the person beneath the curse was a close team mate who meant a lot to him. Blood, sweat, and tears are what you’ll encounter while watching D.Gray-Man Hallow and so we highly recommend checking out both the first and current season to get the best experience.

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: July 5, 2016 - September 20, 2016

Seigi is an extremely talented martial arts student who suddenly finds himself in a situation that he never expected to find himself in. A mysterious man approaches him one night with a stone that has a tattoo ingrained within it. From this moment Seigi’s life changed forever, as this mysterious tattoo has a deeper and darker secret that Seigi is about to uncover on his own. With this newly acquired ability embedded into his hand, new challenges await him as he must not only come to terms with this crazy power, but also deal with enemies who are after him to take back what’s rightfully theirs.

3 Major similarities shared by Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu? and Taboo Tattoo

1. Uncovering the Truth

Seigi was unsure of what was about to unfold in his life, but he finds out the hard way when a young woman randomly notices his tattoo and from there she continues to pursue him. We later find out that this young woman named Bluesy is part of a team of tattoo specialists who are after the enemy who are using these tattoos to bring destruction upon the world. Seigi’s tattoo is known as the void and is an incredibly powerful tattoo that was limited in its quantity, and only gifted individuals were able to possess its true power. The same can be said for Subaru as he never had any intention of being thrown into the shark’s pit, but somehow he finds himself in a new environment with a deadly threat looming in the darkness. These two individuals are now in the midst of trying to uncover clues to figure out why their lives are in disarray, while teaming up with other supporting characters to solve the ongoing problem.

2. Fearless in battle

Once Seigi figured out just how his power worked, he made it his mission to protect everyone especially Touko, his childhood friend. Whatever battle came his way he never backed down, and always ran straight in without much planning. While this may have been seen as reckless to those around him, this demonstrated just how fearless he was when it came to saving the ones he cared about. The fear of death surely resonated with Seigi, but that really didn’t stop him from doing what he felt was best in his heart to save everyone around him. His ability was overpowered compared to the rest of the cast, and he knew that so he used it to his advantage at all times.

Similarly, Subaru showed just how fearless he was in the earlier episodes when Satella informed him of the stolen insignia, and he didn’t even think twice about what he was about to get himself into. His only thought was that he needed to repay Satella back for saving his life, and so he risked his own life to see that Satella could retrieve her insignia. Unfortunately for Subaru he ended up biting off more than he could chew, similar to Seigi, and put himself in a much tighter bind than expected.

3. Overcoming dangerous threats

Both Seigi and Subaru have a lot in store for them up ahead, and so they need to use their wits to overcome the dangerous threats immediately. This of course is no walk in the park, as their enemies are extremely powerful and use supernatural abilities to decimate whoever stands in their way. While there’s a lot of laughter in both shows, both have a very dark undertone behind it all and throughout the show you start to see the truth unraveling right before your very eyes. These threats aren’t here to make amends, they’re here to take what they feel is rightfully theirs, and if someone else impedes on their plans then there’s hell to pay.

Seigi must now work alongside this elite team of tattoo users to battle with these incredibly strong foes, and to prevent the world from further harm. Each threat that he encounters just gets stronger than the next, with abilities that not only tear through buildings but can eviscerate anything that gets in the way. Will these two get their retribution and get a chance to save the world from evil?
