We’re in Winter 2021 in the anime world *wink wink* and there are so many great new releases this year that we at Honey’s Anime just cannot keep calm. Of course, we’re looking forward to many old yet mainstream anime that are getting new seasons like Attack on Titan, The Promised Neverland, RE: Zero, and Seven Deadly Sins. Or maybe you like anime that are more different like Dr. Stone: Stone wars, Beastars, Log Horizon, and Cells at Work. If none of those appealed to you because you’re the kind of person to watch new anime for the new year 2021, you probably heard a lot about Horimiya, Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, So I’m a Spider So what? or Kemono Jihen.

If your anime watchlist isn’t full from the anime we just mentioned, we at Honey’s Anime are here to tell you that you need to watch these anime on Funimation right now! Don’t forget to check these anime out!

5. Tatoeba Last Dungeon Mae no Mura no Shounen ga Joban no Machi de Kurasu Youna Monogatari (Suppose a Kid from the Last Dungeon Boonies moved to a starter town?)

Once upon a time, a village was found by humanity’s saviors called Kunlun. Right next to Kunlun is the infamous “Last Dungeon” where unimaginable monsters reside and serve as the hunting grounds for Kunlun residents. We have our main protagonist, Lloyd Belladonna who has defeated many monsters yet still considers himself the weakest member of the village. But his desire to become a soldier burns bright and he enrolls himself into a military academy. But terror strikes, what if Lloyd’s power is the key to fix it all?
This anime has a very long title and a very simple plotline as far as we can see at Honey’s Anime. We have an overpowered protagonist who doesn’t think too much about himself or considers himself the strongest. We also have a good plotline where we know an adventure is starting. If fantasy anime that is in a similar vein to RE: Zero is what you’re looking for, don’t forget to check this anime out.

4. Urasekai Picnic (Otherside Picnic)

The Otherworld is a place filled with monsters that are hidden from human’s world. It threatens any human who dares to invade it. On the edge of death, Sorawa is saved by Toriko who is searching for her lost friend in the Otherworld. Together, they set out on an adventure and maybe make a little money along the way. But what if the horrors of the Otherworld drive them mad?

Up next, we have a shoujo-ai anime! But what makes this anime truly unique is how it incorporates science fiction with it. There are two different worlds that our characters explore and it’ll be interesting to watch how being in two different worlds will influence them or even change them. Moreover, we’ve got some LGBTQ+ romance going on here or as we otakus call it yuri. If you like science fiction and want some realistic yuri, you need to check this anime out!

3. Idoly Pride

Idoly Pride is the story of Mana Nagase and her rise to popularity with the help of her friend and producer, Kouhei Makino. With the Venus Program evaluating her, she was at her last stage to become the biggest idol but becomes a victim of a car crash and dies. It’s up to Makino now to get a new group together that could reach the heights that Mana failed to. But what happens when Mana comes back as a ghost that only Makino can see?

Idoly Pride is a wonderful anime that illustrates the struggles and problems that idols go through. With adorable characters who are relatable, the plotline is simple and realistic, without making it too exaggerated. The opening and endings are mesmerizing and if you’re looking for a music anime, you should definitely check this out on Funimation!

2. Wonder Egg Priority

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: Ongoing

Ai Ooto just lost her one and only friend, Koito Nagase when she committed suicide leaving her alone and grappling with the loss. Ai starts feeling like there is nothing left to live for but as fate would have it, she stumbles upon a Wonder Egg and gets roped into helping people. When she breaks the egg, a world materializes in her sleep and Ai has to save people from the troubles they have. Ai feels like she has a purpose now and that maybe with this power, she might be able to save her best friend.

If you like slice of life anime that show the realities of life and trauma, we’ve got just the anime for you! Wonder Egg Priority is a promising anime that shows the struggles faced by Ai as she deals with the loss of her friend while helping others. The animation seems extremely promising and the plotline is rather wholesome but also very realistically wholesome.

1. Sk∞ (Sk8 the Infinity)

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: Ongoing

Finally, and definitely not least, we have a sports anime! Sk8 the Infinity is the story of Reki who is very invested in the “S”, a secret and highly sought-after skateboarding race. He meets Langa who has been snowboarding for 15 years before the death of his dad. Reki ropes Langa into skateboarding one day when they mess up the order for a skateboard and Langa shows his true talent as he fights against the local champion, Shadow.

Sk8 the Infinity has caught our hearts at Honey’s Anime and we cannot keep calm as we keep up with the adventures of Langa and Reki and learn more about the world of skateboarding. The characters are so aesthetically pleasing. (Have you seen Cherry Blossom or Miya?) If sports anime is your favorite genre, this is one anime that you should not miss!
