Top 10 Anime For Girls [Updated Best Recommendations]

Battle shounen, ecchi, harems, and just about every fantasy anime is geared towards boys, while girls get the standard shoujo romance, yaoi and shounen ai series. Obviously, sticking with these same genres all the time can get boring after a while. Therefore, we’ve come up with ten anime that young ladies can enjoy. We’ve created this list based on how relatable the anime are to girls, and how big of a female fan base the series have. Keep in mind that this is an updated list, so please make sure to check out our original one before continuing on. With all that said, let’s get on to the list!

10. Rokuhoudou Yotsuiro Biyori

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: April 2018 to June 2018

Rokuhoudou isn’t a very noticeable cafe. It’s located in a hidden but relaxed area for patrons to find peace. However, if a customer needs peace, then they must be having some sort of stress in their life. In comes the handsome waiters of Rokuhoudou to help customers with their problems while also serving them delicious tea and treats.

Don’t get us wrong, butler cafes are nice, but going to a traditional Japanese tea shop and being served by good-looking men is a step up. Bishounen, or pretty boys, are common in anime that’s geared towards a female audience. What isn’t common are bishi-men. (We made that up). Be charmed by the dashing men of Rokuhoudou as they serve customers tea and help them with their daily problems. The servers; Gure, Sui, Tokitaka, and Tsubaki are gentlemen, and will do anything to make a customer smile. This is something that every girl wants, a man to make them smile. And hey, if he cooks, that’s a bonus!

9. New Game!

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: July 2016 to September 2016

Aoba just graduated high school, and is starting her new life as a character designer for her favorite video game company, Eagle Jump. Even better is that she gets to work alongside her role model Yagami Ko. Aoba’s nervous at first since she’s the youngest employee, but after befriending her coworkers, Aoba begins to relax. It may seem like Aoba is living out her dream, but not quite. One day, Aoba wants to be the main character designer for a game, even if that means surpassing Yagami Ko.

Moe anime are usually geared towards men. You have cute girls doing adorable things that real girls don’t actually do. New Game is also popular with males, but has the girls acting in a more believable manor. Even though they look cute, they’re working full time jobs instead of doing cute things. Real girls sleep in nothing but a t-shirt and panties. They also geek out and go to anime related events with their friends and collect figures. Girls have different personalities from being nervous or cool headed at work, and a total tease when they’re with friends. The only unrealistic aspect of New Game is that guys are pretty much nonexistent.

8. Koe no Katachi (A Silent Voice)

  • Episodes: 1
  • Aired: October 2016

New girl Shouko, just transferred elementary schools and right into Shouya’s class. Most kids have never interacted with a deaf person, and this includes Shouya and his classmates. All Shouko wants to do is make friends, but Shouya finds her annoying. As the self-proclaimed ringleader, Shouya bullies Shouko for being strange and gets his other friends in on it. Years later, Shouya deeply regrets his actions and hopes to find Shouko and befriend her. That is, if he decides not to kill himself.

Unfortunately, we’ve all seen bullying first hand. Whether you were a bystander, the victim, or the bully, you’ve certainly seen it. But what happens after that? Do you runaway, ignore it, or grow past it? A Silent Voice hits you in the feels by showing you the aftermath of the children who were involved with Shoko’s bullying. It’s a very realistic situation and you’ll probably see some of the characters as actual people you went to school with. This is a film to watch alone, when you’re feeling down. Although A Silent Voice will make you cry even more, it is a redemption story and does have a happy ending.

7. Noragami

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: January 2014 to March 2014

Yato is a homeless man who tries to get work by doing odd jobs for people. Would you believe us if we told you he’s a God? One day, high school girl Hiyori gets hit by a truck while trying to save Yato one afternoon. Because of this, her soul constantly leaves her body. Yato has decided to take it upon himself to turn Hiyori back to normal...when he feels like it.

Here’s a pure shounen anime that girls can’t get enough of. That could be because of the very good-looking Yato but there’s more to it. Hiyori is headstrong and not afraid to fight someone by using her sumo skills. Bishamon, one of the supporting characters, is the goddess of war, and a very strong leader. Noragami also has great storytelling with the first season being more lighthearted, while the second deals with heavier themes. You’ll get so into Noragami, that you’ll never want it to end.

6. Paradise Kiss

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: October 2005 to December 2005

Yukari spent all her life trying to please her mother by studying her butt off and trying to get into an elite college. While walking to her cram school, a designer student from a fashion academy is enchanted by Yukari’s model figure. Yukari ends up at the designer’s hideout, where she meets the most gorgeous people she’s ever seen. Yukari refuses to be a model, but shortly changes her mind when the handsome and seductive George walks in.

Paradise Kiss is classified as a josei anime, but we feel that teenagers will be able to relate to Yukari the most. We’ve all been through that stage where we feel more independent than we really are and start talking back to our parents. As a girl, it always seems like the mother is pushing more work onto you, and after awhile, you get sick of it. You may even grow to hate her and try to run away. That’s what Yukari goes through after witnessing an incredible life of fashion, glamour, and freedom. Whether you’re a boy, girl, or inbetween, if you’ve felt or been in Yukari’s shoes, you have to to watch Paradise kiss.

5. Owari no Seraph (Seraph of the End)

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: April 2015 to June 2015

What should have been a regular day ended up being the end of the world. Vampires reveal themselves and take over the human race, killing almost every adult and sparing the children. The children are practically cows on a farm to the vampires, as they enslave them in a facility. One day, Yu and his family try to escape the vampire’s clutches, but end up getting killed in cold blood. Only Yu was able to break free and now he’s in training to become a vampire exterminator of the Moon Demon Company.

Who remembers the Twilight Saga craze? Middle school girls from around the world squealed over vampires that sparkled in the sunlight. Although Owari no Seraph doesn’t have glittery vampires, it does have sexy vampires. Vampires are naturally erotic with the way they suck someone’s blood, and Owari no Seraph has a lot of those moments. Some bloodsucking scenes are more violent than sexy, but it makes for an exacting watch either way. If you’re not the type of fangirl that’s into yaoi vibes, then maybe you’ll watch Owari no Seraph for Shinoa, the leader of the Moon Demon Company. Shinoa is a unique female character that we don’t get often in anime. She’s sarcastic, brave, smart, a tease, and a great fighter. Hey, sometimes girls like to pull pranks too.

4. Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler)

  • Episodes: 24
  • Aired: October 2008 to March 2009

How far will you go to get your revenge? Ciel Phantomhive witnessed the fall of the Phantomhive Manor and the death of his parents. Only 13 years old, Ciel decided to take over the business and make a contract with a demon. If the demon fulfills Ciel’s request to complete his revenge, the demon will eat Ciel’s soul.

Black Butler has always been popular with the ladies even though it’s classified as a shounen. This is all because of the sexy demon butler, Sebastian Michaelis, and the yaoi undertones. If we ignore the obvious sex appeal, you get a dark fantasy anime with death, blood, and satanic themes. There are no heroes in Black Butler, as Ciel’s only purpose in life is revenge. With each season, OVA, and film, a new mystery arises that’s more interesting and difficult to solve than the last. It’s an exciting ride that has to be watched on a girls night.

3. Bungou Stray Dogs (Bungo Stray Dogs)

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: April 2016 to June 2016

Orphan boy Atsushi, was kicked out of his orphanage for no reason at all. Starving and homeless, Atsushi decides to rob the next person he sees. That person ends up being a drowning man. After saving his life, Atsushi is quickly swept up into the supernatural thanks to the Armed Detective Agency. Through them, Atsushi will discover his true power, and hopefully learn to control it. But he better be careful, as rival mafias want to use Atsushi’s power for themselves.

Bungou Stray Dogs is a supernatural crime anime, with great animation, plot, and music. But what makes this seinen series a treat for the ladies are the characters. The Armed Detective Agency and their enemies, the Port Mafia, are made up of dashing men. The fan favorite of them all is the suicidal flirt, Dazai Osamu. And what’s a an anime filled with bishounen without yaoi undertones? Dazai has this homo-erotic relationship with Chuuya of the Port Mafia that we can’t talk too much about. If you ever get around to watching the film Bungou Stray Dogs: Dead Apple, you’ll become a Dazai x Chuuya fan too.

2. Ouran Koukou Host Club (Ouran High School Host Club)

  • Episodes: 26
  • Aired: April 2006 to September 2006

Haruhi is not like the other students at Ouran High School. Ouran is a prestigious academy for the rich, but Haruhi attends on a scholarship. Haruhi can’t even afford the uniforms, and wears bummy clothes. One odd day, Haruhi stumbles into the school’s host club and breaks a very expensive vase. To pay off the debt, Haruhi must work for the host club and romance their clients. That might be difficult since Haruhi is a girl.

When it comes to classic anime for girls, there are three that come to mind; Sailor Moon, Fruits Basket, and Ouran High School Host Club. Ouran High School Host Club was definitely ahead of its time. Main character Haruhi never cared to look or judge people by their gender or good looks, but through their personality. Although Haruhi was pretty much forced into working for the Host Club, with good reason, she doesn’t let people push her around, and isn’t afraid to tell a guy off. Although Haruhi is tough, she does have her girly moments whenever she’s in the arms of one of the Host Club members. If for whatever reason you haven’t checked out this famous reverse harem anime, be sure to change that right after you finish number one.

1. Little Witch Academia

  • Episodes: 24
  • Aired: January 2017 to June 2017

Akko is about to make history at Luna Nova Magical Academy. She’s the first and only lady from a non-witch family to enroll. Normally, this would not be allowed, but Luna Nova has been plummeting due to a lesser need for witches. For a while, people make fun of Akko as she messes up the simplest of spells, but soon, an evil arises that only Akko can defeat.

Little Witch Academia is a charming, fun, and magical anime that any girl can fall in love with. For starters, it’s made by Studio Trigger, a studio well known for its Western influences and wacky animation. So if you show Little Witch Academia to a child, they’ll think it’s like any other adventurous cartoon on the Cartoon Network. Girls will smile at the loveable characters and funny jokes, but there are also heartwarming moments that’ll make them want to hug whoever’s near them. By the end of the series, Little Witch Academia will have anyone believing in magic.
