— Pokémon (@Pokemon) December 29, 2015
- Generation: 5
- Pokédex #: 615
To start the festive themed list, we have Cryogonal! In hindsight, from its appearance, this Pokemon resembles a snowflake which coincides and fits perfectly to the Christmas theme where it’s winter and snowing. A time where you can easily picture children having snow fights outdoors, or them making a snow angel in the snow, and amongst all of that, tiny beautiful snowflakes fell from the sky, becoming the icing on the cake of Christmas theme.
For the pokemon itself, Cryogonal doesn’t have an evolution line. This Ice-type Pokemon was first made available to the pokemon franchise in the 5th Generation pokemon. This uniquely shaped pokemon is featured in the anime, as well as an appearance in the 15th Pokemon movie titled: Kyurem vs. The Sword of Justice, posing as the followers of the Legendary Dragon/Ice-type Pokemon Kyurem.
9. Abomasnow
- Generation: 4
- Pokédex #: 460
Moving on to the number 9 spot on the list, we have the Dual Grass/Ice-type Pokemon Abomasnow! Abomasnow was first introduced in the 4th Generation of the Pokemon franchise. It only has 2 stages of evolution line, with its base pokemon as Snover.
Speaking of the Christmas festivity, where there’s snow, there’s bound to children wanting to build a snowman. And that’s what Abomasnow represents, the snowman/ice creature of Christmas. Although Abomasnow is known to be the Frost Tree Pokemon, its big furry bipedal appearance with its entire body covered in snow white fur makes it more recognizable as a snowman. According to the Pokédex, this Pokemon is considered a rare sight, as it lives in snowy mountains and will only appear when the snow flowers bloom, after which it will go back into hiding.
8. Alolan Sandshrew

- Generation: 1
- Pokédex #: 27
Next, we have Alolan Sandshrew, the first Pokemon from the newest franchise Pokemon Sun and Moon to be featured on this list. Although originally, Sandshrew is a Ground-type pokemon, in Pokemon Sun and Moon, the new ‘Alolan’ form is introduced. It goes without saying that with its new form, Sandshrew would have certain changes. This includes its originally Ground-type to change into Ice/Steel-type.
Now, when it’s snowing, what’s the next fun thing to do besides building a snowman? An igloo! And that’s what this Pokemon represents. Alolan Sandshrew has an all-around snow white color, which makes this Pokemon look a lot like an igloo! What better way to celebrate a winter than to build an igloo to warm yourselves in?
7. Stantler
- Generation: 2
- Pokédex #: 234
Moving on to the number 7 spot on the list, we have Stantler. First introduced in the 2nd Generation of the Pokemon franchise, this Pokemon does not have any evolution line. Known to be a ‘Big Horn’ Pokemon, Stantler looks just like a reindeer with its horns and all. Its horn is able to create a pleasant odor and has a bewildering effect on anyone who smells it. Stantler is also able to create realistic illusions by shaking its horns.
“Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer had a very shiny nose”. Familiar with this song? Yep, you guessed it! It’s “Rudolph, The Red-Nosed Reindeer”, one of the most popular Christmas carols, and this Pokemon definitely resembles Rudolph. It’s even showcased in the 4th episode of Pikachu’s Winter Vacation, titled “Stantler's Little Helpers”, where you can see Santa Claus uses Stantler to pull his sled.
6. Pineco
- Generation: 2
- Pokédex #: 204
Here’s another pokemon from the 2nd Generation, the one, and only Pineco! Known as the ‘Bagworm’ Pokemon, this peculiar looking Pokemon takes a striking resemblance to a pine cone. With its 2 stage evolution line, Pineco is able to evolve to a Forretress.
When it comes to Christmas, people would naturally decorate their houses with Christmas ornaments, which naturally includes pinecone decorations. That’s how this Pokemon resembles the Christmas season! Moreover, the Pokédex stated that this pokemon ‘hangs from a tree branch’, just like a pinecone would. All in all, Pineco is just the Pokemon to complete that Christmas tree!
5. Blissey
- Generation: 2
- Pokédex #: 242
Entering the top 5 of the list, we have Blissey! Here’s another 2nd Generation Pokemon of the franchise, Blissey! If you are familiar with the pokemon franchise then you would know that Blissey evolves from a Chansey, and will only do so, if it reaches a high level of happiness, hence the Happiness Pokemon.
The Christmas season, as very many people would like to say, it’s the season of joy and blissfulness. That’s how this Pokemon comes in the picture. Blissey, the ‘Happiness Pokemon’ is an evolution of the Nurse Pokemon Chansey. You might recognize this happy-go-lucky Pokemon from the Pokemon series, as it's often seen helping around the Pokemon Center with Nurse Joy. Blissey does have a slightly different appearance from its former evolution line, Chansey, as it evolves to have wings over its body, giving it an angel-like look. It is even stated in the Pokédex that eating Blissey's egg will render the eater unfailingly caring and pleasant to everyone.
4. Staryu
- Generation: 1
- Pokédex #: 120
For the 4th position of this list, we have a pokemon from the 1st Generation of the Pokemon franchise, Staryu, the Star-Shape Pokemon. This water-type Pokemon is able to evolve into a Starmie when it comes to contact with a Water Stone. Staryu’s red ‘core’ will flash if it becomes weak or injured. You might also remember this Pokemon from its signature owner, Misty, one of Ash’s oldest companions of the pokemon series.
So with Christmas trees, there is always one thing, one essential item to complete a Christmas tree, and that is a star! Staryu is the perfect pokemon to resemble this item. Not only does Staryu have a star-shaped body, it has a red jewel-like core, which is held in place by a golden ring which gives Staryu a more elegant and majestic look. This pokemon will definitely make any Christmas tree shine brighter!

Nevertheless, Jynx is also known to be an all-female species Pokemon, meaning it only exists in female form.
The work Santa Claus had to put up in order to deliver presents to all the children in a world in just one night is quite amazing, and he wouldn’t have been able to do it without the help from Santa’s Little Helpers, and that’s what Jynx represents in the Christmas season. This can be seen in a special episode of the Pokemon series titled, “Holiday Hi-Jynx, where it was revealed that Santa Claus owned a Jynx, and it helped him during Christmas.
