Jitsu wa Watashi wa... follows the story of our main character Asahi Kuromine who goes to school with a variety of characters but really likes his classmate, Youko Shiragami. When she accidentally reveals that she is a vampire, Asahi is still interested. However, Youko’s father demanded that she never reveal her secret. Now, she will have to go back home to another world to keep her family safe… or does she? Asahi agrees to keep her secret safe and the two of them start to spend more time together. That is when Asahi realizes that everything around him is not what it seems. In fact, there’s a demon running his school?

Starting off our list is a rather nontraditional anime in the form of Jitsu wa Watashi wa! The series is unique in that, unlike most vampire anime, the series actually makes a vampire cute and adorable. What could be another regular romcom is transformed with the revelation of supernatural beings being all around Asahi. The best part too, is that we still get vampire staples like a dislike of sunlight, wings, and fangs. There’s a little bit in here for everyone, so hop on board!

Tetsuo Takahashi teaches science at a local high school. While he is a great teacher, his real passion lies in the study and research of Ajin or demi-humans. There are vampires, dullahans, snow women, and succubi that live among humans. Japan has taken many steps forward to support them and tries to help them live everyday normal lives. When a blonde girl reveals to him that she is a vampire herself, he’s thrilled. He then learns that two other students and a teacher are all ajin. Listening to their stories, he tries to help them mitigate living in a world where everyone is the same except for them.

Demi-chan wa Kataritai is another series that is a bit left-field when it comes to vampire anime as it delivers a vampire with a twist. Hikari, the vampire, is blonde of all things. While she does have fans, she can see herself in a mirror, likes garlic, and doesn’t need blood to constantly keep herself sustained as regular food works for her as well. A bright ball of energy, as opposed to something that would be shut off, she does her best to brighten the world of those around her.

Ritsuka Tachibana is an average girl who goes to a good school. Her grades are good however, so when she is summoned by the student council one day, she is shell-shocked. Leaving after a very strange encounter with them, she heads home, but learns that her mother has been kidnapped. Fearing for her life herself, it is none other than the student council who comes to her rescue and saves her from being killed. Vampires and devils clash in this series as they search for a grimoire that Ritsuka is supposedly in command of.

Dance with Devils will catch you off guard. It appears to be another vampire anime, but the reverse harem elements mixed with musicals, and characterization make this a good, quirky anime that ends up being a great watch. Here we start to see vampires in a more traditional sense. They are more gloomy, speak less, are arrogant, and of course have unique powers that they readily use. The best part too is that we get a set of Devils with it as well. Even though the series is a reverse harem, it does not fall prey to typical pitfalls of one and tells a great story.

Set in Japan in the 1930s after WWI, the country itself is expanding rapidly, but it also means that seedy beings have come to exist as well, trying to blend in with the people around them. However, at the same time, beings known as Jaegers are in hunt of vampires that seek something in Japan and to blend in while they take it. Jaegers arrive at Tokyo Station carrying what look like instrument cases, but are actually full of weapons. They are here to take down the vampires. But can they do it in time? And just what do the vampires want with the Arc of Sirius?

Sirius the Jaeger really caught us off guard. We expected it to be a lot like Bungou Stray Dogs and face all of the similar pitfalls. The art is gorgeous, the story is interesting, and the characters are all multifaceted making this a great series. The vampires here play the antagonists and while they do attack and transform, it is very interesting to learn what they are after. More is lurking in the shadows though and we cannot reveal it all. Needless to say, if you want a great action series with vampires as the bad guys, a good story, and great art, Tenrou: Sirius the Jaeger is a good bet.

Rosario to Vampire is such a great show, then ten years later, we still have to include it in the top 10! It tells the story of Tsukune Aono, an average teenager who has just bombed the high school entrance exams and needs to go somewhere. So, his parents enroll him in some school called Youkai Academy and hope for the best. Turns out though, that humans are killed on the spot at this school as the school is full of supernatural beings! Vampires, demons, witches, spirits, and more attend this school. Tsukune also just happens to meet the most popular girl, Moka Akashiya, on the first day and she wants to be his friend. Somehow Tsukune has to manage to deal with all of this while dealing with girls who progressively develop feelings for him, but Moka, above all else, is the girl he likes.

This supernatural romcom fits great right into the center of the list for our top 10 vampire anime as Moka is the main female lead of the series. Cute and innocent with her pink hair, her vampire side really comes out when the choker on her neck comes off. Deadly and powerful, the other side of her possesses all the classic vampire traits: turning into bats, blood sucking, incredible power, and more. Not to mention too, the series is overflowing with plenty of fanservice to like.

Humans and Vampires are now at war after the world has been destroyed by Armageddon. The Vatican though, is done with this war and wants it to be ended soon. Enter our protagonist named Abel Nightroad. He is unique in that rather than drink the blood of humans, he drinks the blood of other vampires and can kill them. After encountering a girl named Esther, he decides to head towards the Vatican and train. That is when his twin, Cain, decides to turn the tables against the humans in order to assume vampiric rule. Can Abel stop him?

This is what you came for if you’re looking for a true and tried method of vampire anime: violence. Vampires do not sit around drinking tea and gossiping all day long, rather they are usually out stalking their prey and that is exactly what happens in this traditional concept of vampires in anime with a twist. Normally, the Vatican would want nothing to do with the vampires, but seeing as how Abel is their only hope, they accept him as he tries to stop his evil twin from establishing a vampire hegemony. If you love classic symbolism associated with vampires, fighting, and more, you will love Trinity Blood.

When a young girl named Megumi Shimizu dies, her village is shocked. Then it is compounded with the fact that an epidemic is now sweeping the village. It's up to a young doctor named Toshio and another youth named Natsuno, to solve the mystery and figure out what is affecting everyone. But can they do it? With vampires freely roaming, nothing is safe.

Shiki takes us back to the form of a vampire classic where classic vampire elements ring true. Fangs, blood everywhere, a constant assertion that God has forsaken them, an inability to enjoy sunlight, and a mysterious aura are just some of the elements packed into this thriller/horror anime. If you’re a vampire anime fan or just a vampire fan in general, this is a must-watch. Just be sure to watch it during the day for fear that you fall prey to something of the night.

Shiki Toono has just moved into a new house now that his apparent father has died. HIs sister, Akiha, has just ordered him moved into their western style mansion. There is a thing though, Shiki can see death lines on people and just about anything and everything. If he hits the right line, people will immediately be shredded and die. So he decides to hide this with the help of special glasses. That is till one day when he meets a vampire named Arcueid Brunestud where he kills her almost immediately. Till she comes around the next day? What is going on?? Together the two now work together to fix the transgressions of time and unlock things from Shiki’s past.

Often revered as the predecessor to the Fate series, as it is set in the fate universe and made by Type-Moon, Tsukihime is a more subtle vampire series. We aren’t going to explain everything and lay it bare, but Tsukihime tends to keep it more simple by not overtly complicating things. We can say though that instead of hunting vampires, a common theme throughout anime, this time the main character helps vampires as they right against the antagonist Roa. It does have a slower start akin to Shiki, but the reward is just as exciting.

Bakemonogatari takes the second spot on our list and for good reason. Koyomi Araragi has just managed to survive an attack by vampires. He was helped by a weird man named Meme Oshino. While he is no longer one, he still has vampiric abilities like healing and excellent vision. Still though, he assumes that he is now safe. That is, until he meets Hitagi Senjougahara, a classmate who is weightless? Koyomi now enlists Meme to come and help him solve her problems.

Bakemonogatari, on the surface, is similar to Demi-chan wa Kataritai in that the main male character starts out wanting to help those suffering from supernatural afflictions. As their romance grows, the idealistic and the reality are contrasted. Still though, if you want variety, then Bakemonogatari is a great show due to all of the supernatural elements and beings within the show.

Hellsing Ultimate naturally takes our first spot because there is nothing quite like it! The story is of the Hellsing Organization run by the one and only Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing. Hellsing as a whole fights against the undead, but her most powerful weapon is a being known as Alucard. Alucard is who Integra calls in when she needs something taken care of. Alucard along with his servant Seras Victoria, fight not only the undead, but also against those who wish to ruin the Hellsing Organization, like the Church. Now with the ultimate enemy on the rise, Alucard must summon all of his power to eliminate his adversaries.

We really wish something would top Hellsing Ultimate, but nothing can touch how true of a vampire series this series is! With hellsing Ultimate you have your brooding main character who is a vampire, incredible healing abilities, demon summoning, blood drinking, gritty, dark fighting, blood everywhere and more. What Hellsing does exceptionally well is the embracing of darkness to an extreme where just when you think it cannot get any darker, it does. Enjoy!

From the title, you can already guess and anticipate the thrilling suspense that this anime might bring. Moving on to number 9 of the list we have Rosario to Vampire (Rosario + Vampire). Originally based on the same manga adaptation, the series gained quite some attention from the anime community. Arguably, some might agree that the anime doesn’t really coincide with the original manga, but overall, this ecchi, action, vampire series is actually quite decent, thanks to its interesting character development and the soundtrack of the series.

Thanks to his lack of grades, Tsukune Aono was unable to enroll in high school. But one night, his father stumbled upon a suspicious looking priest that ‘dropped’ him the ticket for his Tsukune to enroll in Youkai Academy. Little that he know, that it was an academy dedicated to creatures like vampires and such. Being the only human there, Tsukune must avoid causing any trouble or he might risk getting his identity exposed, which would result in death.

Vampire Knight will be next on the list. Taking the number 8 spot, this anime is one of the many anime that appear to be focused more to the female viewers. With so many good-looking and irresistible male vampires, Yuuki Cross will have to maintain the balance, between vampires and human and help her academy achieve something that hasn’t been achieved before; vampires and humans co-existing. Vampire Knight centers around Yuuki Cross and Zero Kiryuu, who were appointed as a school prefect on Cross Academy, a leading prestigious boarding school which harbors a deep secret. Within the school schedule which was divided into two shifts; the Day Class and the Night Class. These two different shifts were meant to keep humans and vampires separate, and it’s up to the school prefect (superintendent) to maintain the secret of the vampires and also the safety of the Day Class attendees.

Up next, we have Blood Lad on the number 7 spot. Blood Lad is an overall really interesting anime, as the combination of the comedy, action, and a touch of ecchi come together quite nicely. The character development of the protagonist is also something to look forward to, especially the ignorant Staz Charlie Blood and his goal to resurrect a human girl named, Fuyumi Yanagi by any means necessary.

Meet Staz Charlie Blood, a boss of the Eastern District of the Demon World. Rumored to be very powerful and ruthless, Staz, in reality, is quite the slacker and an ignorant vampire who is secretly an otaku and basically obsessed with anything made from the human world. Be it video games, manga, even the humans itself. Staz goes about his day meeting other creatures that wish to challenge his position as means to take over the territory when a human accidentally wandered into the Demon World but unfortunately didn’t live long enough for Staz to fulfill his fantasies. Driven by his obsession for humans, he is determined to find a way in resurrecting the girl, even if it means giving up his territory.

Slaughtering its way to the number 6 spot on the list is Blood+! As far as vampire anime goes, Blood+ definitely deserves a place on the list. Not only does she went through a complex character development, but also it adds to the mysterious nature of the anime, ultimately making viewers guessing what’s next as she slowly recovers her broken memories from the past. Instead, this anime features a unique twist to the equation, having a post-apocalyptic backstory added to the overall plot. Humans will have to battle it out against creatures that are far more superior to them. Will the humans emerge victoriously? Or will be they be forever held captive as livestock for feeding? Taking the number 4 spot on the list, we have Bakemonogatari! This series is perfect for those of you that likes to binge watch anime. The show brings you a new set of events with each growing episode, of course regarding supernatural beings. With the main character being a vampire, watch as Koyomi Araragi tries to help those who has a supernatural related issues! The uniqueness of the characters in the series definitely takes credit for putting Bakemonogatari on the map as one of the most popular vampire series in the world of anime!

After an unpleasant experience being attacked by a vampire, Koyomi Araragi came close with death. Having being saved from the brink of death, he woke up realizing he was somehow different. The side effects from his near-death experience started to kick in, soon he was able to regenerate wounds and have greatly enhanced vision. With his new found ability, he tries to go about his day, but more strange things happen, forcing Koyomi to take further action in helping other people regarding issues that dabble in with the supernatural realm.

Shiki is up next on the number 3 spot on the list! This means we’re getting closer to the juiciest part of the article. So to start it off, Shiki’s plot progresses at a slightly slow pace, but as a vampire anime, it stays true to its origin. This can be seen as the traditional vampire weaknesses are shown in this series, such as unable to walk around at noon or exposed to sunlight, and then, of course, the mysterious chic. It all comes together quite nicely, making this anime a definite must watch for anime fans.

JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken is next taking the number 2 spot on the list. Although this anime is considered to be one of the classics, JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken is still popular amongst the anime fans.
